At least that's what this guy is saying in this video. link
This guy thinks Mick stole his idea a year after his shoot for some band we never heard of. We all know Mick and Freddie were inspired by a Marlene Dietrich photograph...dunno if this guy is telling the truth...

I've done some thinking and I think he's talking rubbish. And I'll tell him that for nowt!
He says people look at his band picture and think it's like the famous Queen BoRhap shot. But he claims to have taken his pictures "6 months" before that "album" (A night at the opera) came out, which would've been November 21 1975. So, that would predate the BoRhap video to May 75. Ok.
However, the famous shot used in the video for BoRhap is taken from the Queen II cover shoot with Mick, which was released (the album) on the 8th March 1974. So, that predates what that guy was talking about!
{Darth - Have I done well my masters..?}
Adam.
He made an allegation without the evidence to support it. He even thought Bohemian Rhapsody was on the 'Queen II' album. He was only trying to make himself look better. The sad part is that most people will believe him without question.
P.S.
Great points, Adam.
Just a thought, that he doesnt know much about the albums doesnt mean that he is bullshitting. Hes just saying the band sent his picture on a record cover to the company which declined and some moths later he saw they had issued Queen II with a similar cover and later used the photo in the Bohemian Rhapsody-video. Could be true that they were inspired could be a coincidence. Anyway it doesnt really matter as all artist borrow or are influenced to some degree. The Mick Rock photo is iconic something the his photo isnt, even if it is very good. We shouldnt be surprised that Mick was influenced by the work of others. Very similar covers also exist of the Beatles, as mentioned, and of the Doors. Might be more that Im not aware of.
Also this is a taped lecture on photography, its not like he is trying to sue Mick Rock or take credit for something more like hes telling a funny anecdote something that lecturers like him do a lot.
Might be true to some degree, might not be. Anyway it doesnt really matter and I dont think the man cares that much. He seems to have had a good career in photgraphy anyway.
He seems to say "Queen album - Bohemian Rhapsody". He doesn't say, the Queen II album. So, it doesn't seem clear enough about what he's actually talking about. Either it's the one from QueenII or it's the BoRhap album.
