Hi all
Is there next to Milton Keynes other video footage available of Staying Power live. I would like to have a better look at what John Deacon played because he is playing guitar in that song and was wondering if he doubled the lines of Brian. In that case he is not only a good bassplyer but also a good guitarman :-)
If I'm not mistaken, there's a video of that concert which was taped from the TV broadcast back in 1982 and has different camera angles. Maybe that would provide you some more shots of John.
He certainly wasn't doubling all of Brian's parts, at least in some parts you can hear him playing some funky stuff while Brian is playing the riffs from the song, solo fills, etc. But I have never listened carefully to both guitars throughout the entire song.
But despite that, I'm pretty sure John was (is?) a very good guitarist. I'm no expert, but Sebastian (link has said more than once John is better than Brian for funky stuff, and has great sense of rhythm.
John plays staccato chords while Brian doubles the synth-bass. None of the parts is actually 'lead' or 'solo' per se.
I think that they do play the same during one of the breaks though, you can hear both Deacy's clean Tele and Bri's overdriven RS.
It's a shame John didn't play more guitar on stage, he'd have done nice acoustic things IMO.
