Oh dear. I'll be dating myself...
The first TWO were - Georgie Girl and Playground in my Mind. Yikes. I was young, just a tyke with birthday money, what can I say? :-)
I cant remember the first one I brought, but the first one I had was Keith Harris and Orville as an Xmas present at the age of 4! Oh the shame, and I still have it...I have more vynil than Cds, including every Uk Queen release.
Though they were more than more than outdated at the time, the first 45 I bought was, I believe, Killer Queen.
The last one I bought was a double 45 EP called "Pillowcase" by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs just a few weeks back. It's great! Two of my favorites in one. :)
My first 45 was Pop Muzik by a group simply called "M".
It was the cheesiest, lamest excuse for music, and it sounded like most of the "instruments" probably were generated by something with the words CASIO attached to them. And it was a #1 hit for some ghastly reason.
I'm glad I still have it.
I love this topic.
Mine was of Freddie's "I Was Born To Love You" .. eh I have most of his vinyl records and a lot of Queen's. I also have a lot of Queen and Freddie's 12", cd, and cassette singles.
I also have a bucket full of 45s by different artists. I even have Brian Wilson's favorite song 'Be My Baby' performed by The Ronettes. I got some Peter Wolf singles and the newest 7" singles I have are by My Chemical Romance, two of "I Don't Love You" which each have different b-sides, and one 7" of 'Welcome To The Black Parade'... MCR usually release 7" singles as well as CD singles.
For me, my reason for buying singles is my crazy pack rat mentality. I just like to collect things for the sake of collecting. With music being my favorite thing on the planet, single collecting is only logical.
I don't know why other people do it, but I suspect that a lot of them are pack rats as well.
