After a short while, here is another year.
This time it's "slightly" bigger and will keep you busy for a few days / weeks :-)
Band : Queen Date : 1. February 1979 Venue: Sporthalle, Cologne (Koeln), Deutschland Hallo, Koeln ! Ist alles klar ? A great german show in pretty nice sound quality. For a review from a musician's point of view and 30 audience pictures, check this site : link Readme.txt Queen Cologne, Germany Sporthalle February 1, 1979 This is the complete Cologne 79 show, something which collectors have been after for ages. It has always come out in bits and pieces, but always the same few songs were missing. Here it is, complete, and probably in the best quality we'll ever get for it. There are two audience sources. One has popped up on various LP and CD bootlegs over the years, and there is an uncut tape from this source (we'll call this uncut one "source A"). The uncut tape is actually a bit worse quality than the best LP source. So, I have taken about 2/3 of the show from that LP source, and It's Late, BoRhap, TYMD, SHA, WWRY, WATC, and GSTQ from the uncut tape. A second audience source (of inferior quality, which we'll call "source B") was used to fill in source A's missing parts during Dreamers Ball and WATC. Overall, the quality is close to excellent, but it fluctuates now and then, as indicated above. The edits are as smooth as possible. Also, I listened to the show carefully, and removed all of the vinyl ticks, and any other flaws in the sound. And of course they all play at the same tape speed/pitch. Here's the setlist. All are from the best possible LP source unless otherwise indicated: Disc 1: We Will Rock You (fast) Let Me Entertain You Somebody To Love If You Can't Beat Them Death On Two Legs Killer Queen Bicycle Race I'm In Love With My Car Get Down, Make Love You're My Best Friend Now I'm Here Don't Stop Me Now Spread Your Wings Dreamers Ball (part from source B) Disc 2: Love Of My Life '39 It's Late Brighton Rock Keep Yourself Alive Bohemian Rhapsody (source A) Tie Your Mother Down (source A) Sheer Heart Attack (source A) We Will Rock You (source A) Are The Champions (source A completed with source B) God Save The Queen Distribute these files only if they are left completely unaltered. As always with my shares, if I see a complete Cologne 79 made available here or elsewhere in mp3 or any other lossy format, I will never share another thing here again. Enjoy! Sir GHDownload links: (rapidcats) link link link link link link link link link The next concert is Frankfurt. If you think that many of the songs are slightly familiar to you, you are probably right, because this concert was a n important source for Live Killers. Who is interested in this should definitely check this site : link Band : Queen Venue : Festhalle, Frankfurt, Deutschland Date : 2. February 1979 2 source compilation As taken from readme.txt |

This next recording is a DVD rip of a fantastic TV broadcast. It's unfortunately heavily edited and mono, but it's a great concert From readme file Queen Munich, Germany Basketball Halle February 11, 1979 This is a fantastic recording straight from TV. If nobody else does, I'll eventually share the DVD too, when I've got a bit more time to share something that big. The audio is truly excellent quality. It sounds about as good as Live Killers, but mono. Too bad only 7 tracks were ever broadcasted. GSTQ cuts out a bit early, so I spliced in the last few seconds from another DVD source. Both DVDs weren't encoded to their fullest quality potential, so one might argue that this share is lossy. I'll leave it to the experts to decide. Either way, this is the best recording I've found over years of collecting. If anyone has a better one, I'll be happy to be trumped out on this one. Lineage: 1991 German TV rebroadcast > VHS (0) > DVD (1) > WAV > FLAC level 8 Lineage of the last few seconds: TV > VHS (x) > DVD (x) > WAV > FLAC level 8 Let Me Entertain You Now I'm Here Bohemian Rhapsody (part) Sheer Heart Attack We Will Rock You We Are The Champions God Save The Queen Distribute these files only if they are left completely unaltered, and always include the lineage information. As always with my shares (and preferably everybody else's!), be sure that this recording is not made available at Queenzone or elsewhere in mp3 or any other lossy format. Keep lossless files lossless. :) Enjoy! Sir GHDownload links : link link This another thing is slightly more complicated. It's a combination of 2 sources, one excellent (sourced from the VHS) and one VG- / good+ which is an audience recording. Band : Queen Venue: Pavillon De Paris, Paris, France Date: 1. There's a great moment after Somebody To Love. Freddie remains sitting at the piano and says, "Ok, we have a slightly different show tonight from last night, so it should be a lot of fun. This next song is from A Night At The Opera. This is called Death On Two Legs." He then realizes he has messed up the setlist, and says, probably slightly embarrassed, "I told you it would be a different show!" He fiddles on the piano briefly, gets up, and continues, "I think we're gonna change it. This is called If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em!" Looking at one of his bandmates, he adds, "Fuck off!" as Brian starts the song. It's quite nice to hear these "non-audience" versions of Love Of My Life, a song that doesn't exercise the higher range, to appreciate the sheer beauty of Freddie Mercury's voice. For more info check : link Download links: link link link link link link link link link link And this is the last gig for now. Another little speciality product from me. Band : Queen Date: 26. December 1979 Venue: Hammersmith Odeon, London, UK Type: matrix (???)

Let me kiss your hands and thank you. Hammersmith '79 is my all-time favorite. It's my thing, it's what got me interested on Queen, it's genius throughout. I love this gig, it's just that...you know. There's almost too much music in Freddie's vocals. It's a gift. Thanks for sharing what seems to be a great version of the concert. I can't thank you enough. Five years have gone by since I first listened to this concert and I still get amazed by Freddie's talent. THANK YOU. |

Bloody hell... Let's hope I will get some time to download all that stuff during the weekend, it seems really appealing !!! I can't stand listening to that 4-sourced recording especially ! You rock, Pittrek, really ! Regards, Olivier, France. |
pittrek 25.06.2008 14:10 |
Haha, nice :-) Please let me know what do you think about that, I have never done something like this so some feedback would be nice :-) I have noticed a couple of echos for which I'm not sure if they belong there or if it's an error during the "overlay". Anyway they are noticable only during very small parts only with headphones. Most of the time you will hear 2 sources at the same time, usually the audience recording + the video recording |

The "little" problem now is that I have a lot of work and I can't create new covers with the speed I'd like and did in the beginning; so please be patient with me, as I'm doing it chronologically and next deliver will be Osaka '76 afternoon+evening. And then I have to face 4 covers for 1977, 5 covers for 1978 and "finally" 1979 ... but I assure you Hammy will be the first cover I'll create for 1979 :) cheers! |

I must say, first of all, that I LOVED your baby, Pittrek. The gig never sounded better. It's my favorite Queen concert so, I can't thank you enough. It's a jewel. Some songs really moved me after all these years...so much talent. The sound quality is great, wonderful. I have really no critiques at all. As for Isilwen's doubt, yes, I'm uploading some of the best of the best 1979, including the Hammersmith gig, to mediafire - I'm almost finishing. Hi Dear Pittrek, I tried to have a look at the spectrum and frequency analysis, there is some thing I can't explain, I saw that on some of the shares here on Queenzone, there is a strange line, could you, or Bob or anyone else, have a look and try to explain us what it means ? I don't know why there is that strange line, it is linked with the fact that it comes from a LP or something ? Here is rhe doc file containing the spectrums and frequency analysis ! link Thanks a lot ! Regards, Olivier, Belgium. |

At first a big "thank you" for Pittrek, you must have had a lot of work with all those uploads. At second a brief analysis of your Hammy 79 version: Yesterday I completed the download of the Kampuchea show and have listened to it twice so far. You should know that it's my favourite Queen show (like it is for many others) and I have listened to my previous 2 versions at least a hundred times. I is clear that this version is the best so far, and that it was a good idea to create a matrix of all the different sources. It's a pity that the songs with the worst sound quality (WWRY fast, especially) couldn't be improved though – it guess there was a live mix problem, since the guitar is much too quiet and the bass is a bit blurry. But – there always has to be a "but" – I'm still not perfectly satisfied with this version. Please don't take this as criticism, I appreciate your work very much, Pittrek, and I know that you're no professional sound engineer. I'm none either, so my comments just represent my personal opinion. But of course they are also meant to encourage any pro or skilled amateur to improve this great version even more. One thing that might be improved are the transitions between songs where different sources were used. They are very well audible, not only because the sound character changes (just naturally), but also because there's sometimes a slight break, as if the parts don't fit exactly. Maybe an improved crossfade could do miracles. At least in 2 songs (DSMN and the beginning of LOML) there's a strange reverb that I'd put down to a wrong alignment of the different sources. I know that it is very difficult to keep everything perfectly aligned, especially when the original tapes ran at unstable speeds while being transferred. That's real professional work, of course. Maybe it would have been wiser to do without the second source or to keep the level lower at these problematic places. But in spite of everything said above, this is the best version of this show for today, and it makes any other version obsolete. |

Is anyone else getting this message in Rapidshare: This file is suspected to contain illegal content and has been blocked. After the file has been blocked for 7 days it will automatically be deleted, if the block is not removed by RapidShare. For this reason, a download of this file is currently not possible. I'm getting this on Cologne and Munich... are these also available on Mediafire? Thanks, Louis |
