Which Queen album will be the first to go out of print? I imagine it might be 'The Works'... when I'm in record stores, I hardly see it. I see Hot Space more often than The Works for some odd reason. The nearest record store near me, only has CDs by Queen from the 1970s... the owner said he started liking punk music when Queen started doing songs like 'Another One Bites The Dust' and he never bought another Queen album due to Queen's poppier sounds. He expressed a big dis-taste for Radio Ga Ga. He loves Queen's albums from Queen II until Jazz, but he said even Jazz had some elements he didn't enjoy.
the opinion of ONE independent record shop retailer is NOT the basis for EMI's corporate business decision-making...
albums will stop being pressed when EMI decide it is no longer financially viable...
on that basis you would need to look at the sales over the last few years
my guess would be Flash, or some of the live albums
If they leave EMI, it'll be Greatest Hits.
If they don't, it'll be Live Magic, which has no reason to exist in a world where Live At Wembley also exists (even before the fact that it's shit).
If we're talking about studio albums, I'd say Jazz or The Works.
There isn't any logic in this statement that couldn't be applied to the other albums though, of course. It's really just a vague guess on my part.
If we're talking the catalogue as a whole, I'd say the live stuff, easily.
I guess the U.S. fans don't remember. But this has ALREADY happened. It pains me to say this, because it happens to be the best album that goes first.
Hot Space was deleted in the mid 80s. Within weeks, the Elektra debacle occured and all Queen disappeared in the US until the Capitol deal kicked in. But you couldn't get the old stuff, only The Works, then Magic and Miracle...
Now we have Hollywood and I don't think they'll delete any Queen titles... since that's about the only thing keeping that beast going.
I hate retaliers at WalMart that carry a ton of different compilations, but no regular studio albums. At my local Walmart, they've got Classic Queen, Greatest Hits (the red one), The Platinum Collection, and The Gold Collection or whatever it's called. No studio albums though. They did have A Night At The Opera, but not anymore.
That's why I go to record stores. I remember a record store down in Massachusetts carried Freddie Mercury solo albums!!

I have noticed that as well. Wal Mart seems a bit stuck in a rut by just having the compilations. There are so many great songs a casual fan miss out on by listening to just the compilation albums.
I'm not sure how much of an issue an album being in print or not is going to be in the future. We might not be too far away from a time when a large majority of music is sold by downloading. I have every Queen studio album but i have checked their iTunes page on occcasion to see what material of theirs is selling and Flash Gordon has been close to the top. I can't quite figure out why, but it does not seem to be as unpopular as some of our friends in this thread seem to think.

You misunderstood the thought behind my remark: soundtrack albums tend to go out of print much sooner than other kinds of albums except compilations (which often go out of print the minute a new one comes out) IN GENERAL. I leave quality completely out of it; after all, it's companies deciding these things, and as collective entities those have, by definition, no taste.
