Hey guys, I recently converted a friend of mine(we're net-buddies), who is a big metalhead like myself, into a Queen fan. Previously he was a self-professed "Queen-hater". Here's a conversation between him and I from ages before: Kartik(my friend): "Tumhara favourite band kaunsa hain?"(Which is your favourite band?) Me: "Queen." Kartik: "Hahaha, tujhe lavra choosna pasand hain?"(Hahaha, Do you like sucking cock?) Kartik: "Oos band ka gayak gay tha na?"(Wasn't the singer gay?) Me: "..." Well a month ago, I told him to listen to Ogre Battle and after downloading it from me on MSN he didn't believe it was a Queen song. He thought it was a song by some Power Metal band and said it was the best Power Metal song he had ever heard(Is it even Power Metal?). I sent him other songs like Killer Queen, March of the Black Queen, etc. which he liked pretty well and the dumbass remarked that MotBQ was "kickass Progressive Metal"('jhakkas Prog metal'). Anyway, he asked me to burn him a CD of Queen metal songs and give it to him as he's gonna come visit me in a week(we live in different states of India). Can you guys suggest some good metal songs by Queen? I can only think of the following- 1. Tie Your Mother Down 2. Father To Son 3. March Of The Black Queen 4. Ogre Battle 5. Liar 6. Stone Cold Crazy 7. Innuendo I think I should burn atleast 16-18 songs. I'd really appreciate it if you guys can suggest 10-12 more. And please, METAL only. Not Hard Rock(I Want It All, Was Is It All Worth It?).... |

in my humble opinion queen have never been metal, they could get heavy, but not metal I understand metal as metallica, megadeth and whatever comes heavier than that. Just an opinion |
Saif 11.06.2008 12:27 |
Queen were never a metal band, I agree. But they've done metal songs. Songs like Ogre Battle and Tie Your Mother Down are heavier than anything done by Manowar, a quite heavy metal band. And you shouldn't make your generalization of metal based on Metallica alone. They're thrash metal, and hence, bound to be heavier than almost all other metal bands. Take Opeth for example. They're progressive death metal but they're not too heavy. Yet they're definitely metal... But thanks for your opinion anyway. =)
A Word In Your Ear wrote:Thanks. I'm considering putting all of those except Modern Times Rock 'n Roll. As much as I like it, he'll probably think it's punk rock and further say "Who the hell is this singing? It's not that gay guy..."....Saif wrote: Can you guys suggest some good metal songs by Queen? He's homophobic, yeah. But most people in India are...soooo, if I were to be picky, I'd have no friends. :P Furthermore, even transexuals are discriminated against to the extent that they are forced to feel that it's their fault for something which was out of their control. |

I remember trying to convert metalhead friends whose main reservation about Queen was the singer was gay back in high school. I do wish I had the playlists from those cassettes. I think it includes most of what we have here, plus the Star Fleet stuff for the shredding and the fact that they could wrap their heads around Eddie Van Halen. |

Queen definitely HARD ROCK. Not pure metal, but if you have to label them then a heavy rock band who experimented, too much in the 80's in my opinion with some awful pop/dance leanings. The Rock/Metal thing is so blurred these days but the likes of Quo, Def Leppard, KISS, Bon Jovi, are not metal in the way SLAYER are. It's all very subjective. You cannot deny most of Quuen Fan's and certainly Freddie, Brain and Roger were fans of 'Heavy music'. Even AC/DC shun the metal tag and like to be called hard rock n roll! Rob Halford of self proclaimed metal gods is as gay as a daffodil but one of the greats like Fred of ROCK! If something came from Freddie's death it was acceptance of lots of metal/rock fans of the likes of Freddie and Rob as what they are. GREAT ROCK Stars even if they are bent! Who cares, yes we may find their sexual activities personally disgusting but metal/rock fans like me had to admit does it fucking matter? We loved them for their music not what they did or do with their dicks! |

Technically speaking the only Queen-songs that have 'metal' arrangements are Stone Cold Crazy and the Hitman. (And both only have parts that can be labelled 'metal', the main riffs are metal but as soon as Freddie comes in it's definately just hard rock). The rest is heavy rock, progressive rock, hard rock, plain rock, etc. |

It depends on the terminology which changed a lot during the years. In the seventies and early eighties bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple (and particularly Queen) WERE identified as heavy metal, according to today's terminology they belong to the hard rock category. |

First off, Queen is NOT metal. They touched hard rock with their first albums but they are not even close to metal. Slayer is. |
