Disclaimer: The title is just a way to make it more fun, it's not an unknown bootleg or so on. Hi people! Well, I believe in Flac. Hahaha. In God, too, and Jews of the world (not news), please, you can say write and speak and shout GOD, there's no problem, it's an indo-european word, no lightning will strike you on the head. That being said, I'm just attending requests by users and hopefully helping spread the files in good quality. Hopefully! Now, what is this? lol It's a Queen's guide to Japan: a good guide. 1) First, the concert YourValentine has recently shared via torrent - Queen live at the Budokan, Tokyo, 14th April, 1979. I decided to upload this one to mediafire because, according to Barb herself, and even though that's always subjective I pretty much agree with her on that, because the sound quality is better than the second one from the Wardour set. 2) The second concert I'm uploading to mediafire is a must-have to any Queen fan - MUST HAVE. That means: you don't have it, man, you have to have it in order not to be in an awkward situation of not having it, because it's a good concert and, some will argue, some will argue, I tell you, it's the best concert from the Works Tours. It's an upgrade, originally uploaded by SirGH, of an already excellent version of Queen's concert at...Budokan, Tokyo, may 9, 1985! So, very good shares, people: let's thank Barbara and SirGH and the tapers and all those involved in this for making it avaiable in such good quality. Let's thank them in good style, with vocal harmonies: you go for the highest notes, I play the bass role: THANK YOU, SIRGH, BARBARA AND EVERYONE INVOLDED IN THIS. Now, let the show begin! ------------------------------------ The first one: "Live at the Budokan, Tokyo, April 14th 1979 Ripped of the Wardour discs and encoded with Flac Frontend level 8 File size: 710 MB Set List: Disc 1 01 We Will Rock You (fast) 02 Let Me Entertain You 03 Somebody To Love 04 If You Can't Beat Them 05 Death On Two Legs 06 Killer Queen 07 Bicycle Race 08 I'm In Love With My Car 09 Get Down Make Love 10 You're My Best Friend 11 Now I'm Here 12 Don't Stop Me Now 13 Spread Your Wings Disc 2 14 Dreamer's Ball 15 Love Of My Life 16 '39 17 It's Late 18 Brighton Rock/Guitar Solo 19 Keep Yourself Alive 20 Bohemian Rhapsody 21 Tie Your Mother Down 22 Sheer Heart Attack 23 We Will Rock You 24 We Are The Champions 25 God Save The Queen Part1: link Part2: link Part3: link Part4: link Part5: link Part6: link Part7: link Part8: link Part9: link Info: link missing files (*my fault*): Part1: link Part2: link Sorry, and thanks a million for the warning! This show is one of my personal favourites, as Freddie Mercury's voice is unbelievably powerful on this night. This is surely the best show of the Works tour in my eyes (two days before the officially-released one, where Freddie's voice isn't quite so strong). Wardour claims their copy is from the master, and I have no reason to doubt it. The sound is im |

Now, @ Pittrek Pittrek, I wanted so badly to know which programs I can use to correct speed and this kind of stuff so I can do more organized series. I came across a program, it was Sound Forge, but I don't have a clue about how to use that! Ok, it'll be part of my graduation, this engineering things, but in about 2 years from now. Hahaha. I hope Queenzone is still there! So, if you, or any other kind user would be so kind as to help me out with this, I'd be really glad. I know you're very busy and have to do many things at work, so I don't wanna bother you. So, if there are users who feel like giving me a hand and have the time to explain me these things (lol), I'd be glad, really. Self-education, yes, it should be like this in the internet era, but...you know, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer; not even close to being. :-) Thanks!!!!!! Take care |

Yara wrote: beautiful piano intro do Somebody to Love, with bits of one of Liszt's mephisto waltzes' themes.Really!? Can you elaborate a bit more on this? |
pittrek 09.06.2008 11:28 |
Hi Yara, I can try something :) I am using Cool Edit Pro, which is pretty old so I don't think there is a legal way how to get it now, but its development continued as Adobe Audition. There is a menu Effects -> Time/Pitch -> Stretch, any good sound editor should have a similar function. You need to know the correct length of a section which you can get by using your ears or by finding a section for which you know the correct length, a good example is Procession or the opera section of Bohemian Rhapsody. So if you have the section, you have the actual length and the correct length, which means that you also know the ratio. You now have to stretch the whole track (album) with that ratio. The problem occurs if the speed isn't constant but changes during the recording, then it requires MUCH more time and good nerves :) |

Yup. The bridge to the arpeggiated chords and then what sounds as a improvisation bear close resemblance to one of the sub-themes of Liszt's first Mephisto Waltz - it works as a sub-theme in Liszt's waltz, but as a bass-line in Freddie's intro, and the intervals are pretty close though there's some transposition and changes in the tempo, of course, but the contour, as we say, of the sub-theme is there, he just went down a bit to make it sound darker - which is very Lisztian too, by the way. It's hard to believe it's a coincidence because these pieces are very well-known among pianists. Just, of course, my most humble opinion. |
Yara 09.06.2008 11:47 |
@ Pittrek, thanks a million! I'll try my hand at it. I will see to it whether I can find a legal copy of a good sound editor; judging by what you told me, it could be a simple one, it doesn't have to be those big programs with 1, 2, 3 GB. lol It's worth having, I guess. I'll do some small research and see what would fit my necessities - and knowledge! - better! Thanks a million. I'll check this one you mentioned, there are always some trial versions and so on to test them, I think I can find it. THANK YOU!!!!!!! Yara |

thanks Yara ! could you please check the second link of the missing tracks for the 1979 show ? It seems it is the same than the second link of the show that you already shared (the second of the nine links shared previously, I mean). [Edited] : the first link "missing tracks" contains the three songs that were forgotten first, but the second link is identical to the second of the nine links shared before. So I don't think this a link to "missing tracks". Dear Yara, were there anything else you wanted to add to this share, or is it that you are just like me, sometimes the head high up in the clouds or really tired, and just made a mistake ? No offence in that of course :o) ! Regards, Olivier, France. |

Sir GHCool. You'll find it interesting, I guess. Try re-listening to the other waltzes as well, whenever time allows. Liszt is kind of God for pianists and an unavoidable reference in every pianist's education, I think. His work has deeply influenced 20th classical music, even though he's criminally neglected as a composer. He was as brilliant as one could ever wish to be. His transcriptions of Beethoven's symphonies to Piano are just miracle. It's other-wordly. Not to mention his own great opus: the sonata in B minor, which must be one of the most thrilling piano pieces that have ever been composed. Freddie's piano style resembles a lot Liszt's. That, per se, doesn't mean anything because Liszt changed the way people used to play the instrument, so virtually every pianist who flourished after him was influenced by him to some extent. But Freddie's style bears quite a close resemblance to the late Liszt, which is much more awkward. Late Liszt is the most obscure, less well-known, and the darkest - it's the years of Totentanz and Nuages Gris (which is one of the first pieces with a weak tonal center, not atonal in Schoenberg's sense, but already drifting away from the traditional way of organizing the musical material). Freddie's flamboyant arpeggiated chords and runs over the piano are very Lisztian, especially because the runs and the sequences vary a lot in terms of dynamic range - take "Death on Two Legs", for instance. And, when time allows, try re-listening to his piano opening to "Play the Game" in Wembley, 10-12-1980, last concert of the leg, I think. If you don't remember it anymore, I'm sure you'll be stunned and surprised again and get that "awe" from listening to Queen live. Brian is great throughout in the concert too, and in NIH the guys seem possessed, just like in Death on Two Legs. All songs are done almost flawlessly and with a very risky approach - very! We Are the Champions vocals are challenging, wow, the way he holds the notes from the second chorus on and does the modulations is stunning. But, well, for the time being, because time is a scarce resource!, try re-listening to Liszt's waltzes, or other pieces, if you feel like doing it, I always do, it's quite instructive musically speaking lol - he was the first rock and roll pianist: few people know his Totentanz for SOLO piano, without the Orchestra. It's amazing because it seems as if you were listening to heavy metal. Serious. It's rare to find it. A fine Brazilian Pianist, Arnaldo Cohen, performed it and recorded it for the Naxos Label, with many other late Liszt ouvres. It's a must-have, this cd, with a bonus: it's cheap, very cheap. ;-)))) Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand, finally, listen again to that intro to play the game - Wembley, 12-10-1980, last of the gig. Because we forget. I went through the recording, I've been listening to it since it was shared, and it's stunning. Take care |

It's such a fine concert, though, that I'm pretty sure other people have re-re-uploaded ever since this share. Did you try the "search" function? Cheers. Let me know. |
