Or at least Australia. We Kiwis and Aussies are miles away from the rest of the world, we basocally are our own little continent at the bottom of the world. We can't always go and see Queen when they tour unless we can get the money in time. Queen NEED to return to Australasia, the last time Queen came to New Zealand was 1985. Yes, 23 years ago. We need them back!!!
Who agrees?
Here, here............I hear you loud & clear & couldn't agree more. We seem to miss out on most of the big name acts down here. I would love to see them here. I've been a fan since '87 & been hangin' out ever since hoping that they or Brian/Roger at least would tour here. But in all reality it is highly unlikely due to cost & would they actually be able to sell enough tickets here in NZ compared to Europe? Our only hope is for them to at least come to Oz & then it could really be on the cards!
Damn right they should... ever since I heard they were gonna tour I was crossing my fingers, but it seems Brian and Roger feel that they wont get a big enough response down here :(

The last time Queen toured anywhere was in 1986. Yes, 22 years ago. You can't get them back anymore than anybody in Europe can get them back, as there is only half of the band left!

I was told that the promoters are generally nervous about the idea of "Queen without Freddie", plus it is an expensive show.
I would have thought that the success of We Will Rock you and the second rate tribute band "It's a Kinda Tragic" would count for something.

Let me rephrase that. It was 23 years ago ANY of Queen was here. At least Europe get Bri and Rog.

I agrees, I agrees, WWRY was awesome, could have been better with the original cast, but I'm not complaining that we got it, although, poor South Islanders, they had to travel ALL the way to Auckland. Lucky me, I'm only 4 hours drive from Auckland.
And It's A Kinda Magic. Not bad, but not the real thing.

You've pretty much sorted out what the problem is, and unfortunately there isn't a solution to it in the current situation.
Individual performances of ANY show are very expensive (let alone when you have to add a 5000-mile charter flight to get to the venue), and promoters aren't going to risk it. With a whole month's residence of a "semi-professional" cast they can cut a significant portion of the costs, and get a significant amount of additional income from fans buying tickets to multiple performances.
The Japanese tour of half a dozen dates worked because of guaranteed ticket sales and a generous local financial support. A South American tour of half a dozen dates MIGHT work, if the audiences are still as fanatical about half a band as they were about the whole band in the 80's.
Can you say any of that for Australasia? Would either of you bet your this year's income on it, like the local promoter might have to?

Hahaha, that's what my brother and I call them too.
Whether a Q+PR tour would succeed in Australia is anyone's guess. It's not like an ABBA reunion, which would probably sell out six months worth of gigs overnight in Australia.
At least one gig in Auckland, and maybe ones in Wellington and Christchurch would be nice, and, well, I don't know all the good places in Oz but they're probably ours, and 3 gigs, I guarrantee they'll sell out. Last time they were here they did 1, and that was in in Auckland.

That's true, I've heard the same thing.
Sadly, the Brian May tour hardly set Australia on fire. And neither did the "Who" without Townshend in the nineties. They couldn't sell enough tickets to fill one venue, let alone a national tour.
