Does any one else agree with me that 1.This is Roger's best song. 2.This song is bar none the most underrated and unplayed Queen song.I know there is a long list of underrated and unplayed.3.Is it possible that inspiration for the song came from the punk movement, and very possibly the Pistols who were recording in the same studio at the same time, well different studio's same building.Boy I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall there! |
Holly2003 20.05.2008 14:37 |
Good song, but I think the under-rated Drowse is probably Taylor's best effort. |

The end part of Drowse? "I think I'll be Clint Eastwood Jimi Hendrix he was good Let's try William the Conqueror Now who else do I like? Brian May?" |
Holly2003 20.05.2008 18:22 |
All re-releases of that song have the following lyrics: "I think I'll be Clint Eastwood Jimi Hendrix he was good Let's try William the Conqueror Now who else does Fred like? Paul Rodgers" |

I hear everyone that favors Drowse.Fight from the inside seems to have a great Heavy Metal/Hard Rock groovin, guitar, the drums are real heavy, the lyrics are excellent!Don't let me forget the heavy A$$ bass as well, all played by Roger If I'm not mistaken! One more thing Roger's inimitable vocals.Yea Rod's close but he couldn't touch the high notes that Rog hit back then.Any comments on the pistols angle? |

Could I also make it a point to note that this is one of the few Queen songs with only Roger and Brian performing on the track as Queen :) |

I also think DROWSE is the best Roger Taylor song. Especially the last verse... And it's on my favorite Queen-album, A Day at the Races. |

mmm yes...very nice, heavy and melodic with the chorus vocals. DIY punk lyrics. someone did a decent mash-up with FFTI & a NIN song a while back on the Fan mixes page... |
HeyUBoy 05.06.2008 15:55 |
I should clarify....Lyric wise I think Roger is speaking to the Punks ,not that the song is musically punk influenced. Now the song SHA has a definite break neck punk speed.Interestingly,SHA, was written well before the punk movement took hold.FFTI had more of a loping almost funky pace. Once the guitar and vocals kick in it becomes something altogether different.Much more unique than a 3 chord punk style song. |

ADATR my fave album; Drowse my fave Roger song ... but I love any of his Queen songs, and have always thought Fight From The Inside is hipnotizing and sick and .... YEAH, GREAT ! |

It's a fine example of Roger in one of his fighting moods. The guys seems to love telling people to go and shove it. Is it his best and most under-appreciated? Hard to say. I, too, prefer Drowse - it's not just my favourite with Roger's vocals on it, but one of the favourite Queen songs overall. The turnaround on "here on the street" blows my mind away every time. |
louvox 06.06.2008 13:41 |
My top Roger songs. 1. Tentement Funster 2. Calling all girls (Live version) 3. Fight from the inside 4. I'm in love with my car 5. Say it's not true |

My neighbors had a BBQ-party a couple of days ago. They played some loud music, and suddenly "Fight From The Inside" was played. Along with "Flash" and "Need Your Loving Tonight". I really like to hear other people play Queen songs when it's not "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "We Are The Champions"... |

I love FFTI But I personally love the back story for "I'm In Love With My Car" Y'know, when Rog locked himself in a closet until Fred made it the B-Side? Good stories. |
boca 28.06.2008 14:30 |
Well, my Favourite Roger's songs are Radio Ga Ga, Kind of Magic and Ride the Wild Wind...About Fight From the Inside, i don't think Roger would have Pistols as any kind of inspiration...no...doesn't sound true...that's my opinion... |

Conor (!) wrote: I love FFTI But I personally love the back story for "I'm In Love With My Car" Y'know, when Rog locked himself in a closet until Fred made it the B-Side? Good stories.Yeah, but that 'good story' always rubs me the wrong way. Seemed to me that Roger knew Bo Rap was going to be a big hit, and wanted equal royalties. |
wilk 17.07.2008 11:40 |
He must have expected extra cash from getting a b side but Roger could never have guessed it would have been that big a hit. |
nuncjusz 03.08.2008 18:30 |
"Fight From The Inside" probably was the first drum-bass driven funk-rock song from Queen. The song was kind of direct forerunner to songs like "Fun It" and especially "Dragon Attack". Many people say that John incorporated funk into Queen music with "AOBTD" but in fact it was Roger who started it all, and probably the fact that Roger went into it, kind of encouraged John also to write that kind of stuff, which he always wanted to write (but didn't have enough confidence to do it). Probably after this and "Fun It" he thought: "Cool! Queen is going into funk. So now I can easily write something funky and they won't say that I'm going too far from Queen's traditional sound." |
Grantcdn1 06.08.2008 06:53 |
Fight from the Inside is a fantastic Roger song.....may certainly be his best....it rocks hard - so heavy!! Fantastic! I love Loser In The End and Tenement Funster too aside from the obvious I'm In Love With My Car... It is interesting that it was a Roger and Brian performance in the studio...(and they called that Queen)...I always wish that Roger would sing one of the old classics on Tour with QPR.....maybe we'll get Tenement Funster (at least he has done that one before live) |
AmeriQueen 05.09.2008 01:05 |
I do think it's as good as any vocal job Taylor ever put on tape. He gets every part of his vocal talent wrapped around this song and nobody could fit that song in substitute of his vocals. His riffs often are as great as May's which this song demonstrates. What I like about those late 70's Taylor tracks is how completely original they were. |
Voice of Reason 2018 05.09.2008 05:59 |
I didn't like the song much until I heard the instrumental version from The Eye. Brought a new appreciation! |

Whoever mentioned "Calling All Girls" was right... To me it was a highlight of Hot Space. I'm not sure, though, that it's a good example of the whole "Hot Space ethos" of getting in there and out again quickly... It seemed rather well produced for that sort of thing. Maybe that exposes the whole internal contradiction of Queen doing a "hot space" (little h little s) thing. |

No offence but FFTI is IMO not Rogers best The 70's Drowse and the 80's Ride The Wild Wind are far better examples. |
