Does anybody know exactly when the ONE YEAR OF LOVE single (France and Spain) was issued???? An exact date would be nice, even just the month, but at this moment I can't even get this data from the appropriate EMI office. No one seems to know. I have NEVER ever seen any promotional material for this single; not a flyer, nor a poster, nor even mention in a newspaper. And not a review either. This is unprecedented as far as I know for a Queen single. We have newspaper ads for probably every Queen single, from most countries around the world, but absolutely nothing for this disc. I think there must be a strange/unusual story attached to this release... especially when you think that the extended 12" mix was created but never used at the time. It's all a bit weird. So... does anyone know when exactly it was released in either or BOTH countries??? And proof would be fab! Surely you French and Spanish fans can recall which single came out before it, and after it????????? Ta a great deal and muchly. |

I think the singles from AKOM came out in this order, but I am not 100% sure. A Kind Of Magic (Cat #2011167) Friends Will Be Friends (Cat #2013087) One Year of Love (Cat #2013157) Who Wants To Live Forever (Cat #2014397) I just assumed that the catalog numbers would be in order sequentially. This image of the French 12" test pressing has a date of 4/8/86, which certainly indicates that it came after FWBF but before WWTLF. So I would guess it came out most likely in August 1986 as I can't imagine them releasing two singles in September (WWTLF being the September release). link |

PieterMC... Good reply. I think the Cat number is a fair point. Good stuff. Thanks. |

According to a (French) website the single One Year Of Love entered the charts (Top 50) September 20, 1986. link In Andreas Voigts discography there is a picture of the Spanish 7inch promo single of OYOL carrying a sticker with a date: November 3, 1986. I don't know if that date refers to the releasedate though. |

Hi Walter and Greg! Los 40 principales isn't "the best seller singles" list, they are "You have to listen to what's in and what's happenin' "kind of list. Los 40 principales is, probably, the most known radio station around Spain and the play pop and very comercial music. And you have to remember: actually the spanish people don't buy singles, we prefer buy the album. Sorry for my english! |
Walter B. 12.04.2009 06:24 |
Thanks Llisos! Very useful information. Is there another Spanish chart where One Year of Love entered in 1986? And do you have a clue about the releasedate of the single in Spain? |
Llisos 13.04.2009 04:12 |
Hi! I'll take a look trying to find something. In those days the market of singles were very limited and probably they didn't waste their time making an accurate list. For exemple, during years the 'official' chart was given for a big shopping center basing in its sales. And about OYOL, during some time were very easy to find in the spanish second hand market. It makes me think that the single was a (relative) hit here. |

"... especially when you think that the extended 12" mix was created but never used at the time." Hmmm, so there is an extendend 12" mix of One Year Of Love? Is that something y'all knew about for years. It's news to me, that's for sure. |
Future Manager 13.04.2009 10:26 |
It was released on a bonus CD with the Highlander: Immortal Edition DVD in the US in 2002. |

Future Manager wrote: It was released on a bonus CD with the Highlander: Immortal Edition DVD in the US in 2002. I have that DVD. Listened to the CD once, I think, maybe 5 years ago. I don't like that song that much and that 12" version only goes on and on and on and it's not nice. Funnily enough, I haven't seen the movie in about the same time and I was about to see it yesterday with my girlfriend. We had just seen "Twilight" on DVD and I told her Highlander had the "Immortal, love through time, etc." theme in a less girly fashion, with swords and with a Queen soundtrack. She was intrigued. Maybe we'll see it tonight. |

So Greg, your question about this single suggests it'll be realised in the THIRDT (?) of the Singles Box Sets? Greaaaaaaaaaat!!!!! |
craigob11 04.03.2018 23:07 |
I can also add to this mystery. I own a french 7" test pressing of " One Year.." but the b- side is " Pain is so close to pleasure "...so to add to this, was " Pain " going to be the 1st choice of a b-side & then switched to the ones we know now.? |
cmi 05.03.2018 05:16 |
^ Does it features 'new' single mix or the album version on it? Probably there was a late decision at the time that PISCTP can be released as an A-side. So the b-side was changed in the last minute and later PISCTP was released as a single in Europe & USA. |
