I am going to London in the last week of june for 7 days. Could you give some tips what queen related places to visit ( or unrelated ), and of course which record stores to visit :) Thanks |
Killer Queenie 11.05.2008 12:50 |
Queen related places? Well there's Freddie's house and WWRY at the London Dominion theatre (can't miss it - the huge Freddie satute outside... The one I wanted to get a picture of but could cos it was pissing down with rain...) Uhhh... Not sure where else. Have to ask someone who lives there. [: |

Talk a walk along the Thames. There are so many things there to be seen. And SOHO! :D |

I'm going to monitor this thread, I still haven't made up my mind if I should even be going! |

London's magical. Just pick anywhere. Except possibly exclude Shoreditch, you WILL get raped whether you are male or female. Unless of course, this is what you want, in which case, Shoreditch is your first port of call. Queen stuff... There's obviously Garden Lodge, which is really easy to find from Earl's Court tube station. Although it always seems a bit weird because you get there... and it's there, as you expected, and it's sort of "Okay, now what?" As for buying Queen stuff, I find there's a really good street just off Oxford Street called Berwick Street which has lot's of old record shops (I think a few have closed down now though) You can occasionally find something worth buying. There's also a really great store called "Sister Ray" which has all sorts of old and rare Queen vinyl’s and such, however, they know their stuff, so don't expect any bargains. (Also, I think Berwick street leads to Soho, should you want to visit it as Rick suggested... Slightly questionable area though, again with possibility of rape, especially that of the bum bum.) And just generally, the best place to get drunk in London, is Camden Town, a couple of stops on the Northern line and you've entered another world of utter bizarrity. Loads and loads of different bars, clubs and pubs with different types of music, many interesting people, although I should warn you, there is a 90% chance of bumping into Amy Winehouse, or more likely her bumping into you, she's off her head. (also, the 90% chance increases as you get closer to the pub called The Hawley Arms, the celebrity 'hang out', you will know it when you see it because it got burnt down.) So yeah, basically, get yourself an oyster card, put some cash on it, and head somewhere that sounds interesting. I hope you find my rape risk assessments helpful. |
Rick 12.05.2008 04:37 |
Haha very true. Maybe it's better to visit Soho during daylight :-P Just avoid any suspicious looking streets... We were walking with the three of us in quite a small street (during nighttime) when we suddenly heard a voice saying: "Hello darlings, would you come and join us?" That's what I call a confirmation that we were in the wrong place :-P Oh and visit the London Dungeon. I loved it! It's about 20 pounds for one ticket, but it's really worth it! |

yep, visit the London Dungeon at london bridge station. was the guide still doing his Bono/mephisto routine? theres also the london eye, tower of london, houses of parliament all near each other. british museum [for the egyptian/greek stuff],the natural history museum [for the dinosaurs],the science museum [next door to the natural history museum] or if you want something a bit different, take a boat trip down river from London Bridge [visit HMS Belfast while there] to Richmond and Hampton Court Palace and visit Henry 8th's home. theres a lot of old curiousity type shops off Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road, but dont go too far of the beaten track as you will get lost in a heartbeat. for Freya and Jessie: i hope we bump into Amy in August when im there, ive been wanting to split her whiskers for ages ;-] |

So they kind of ruined it for us and the actors there. As for many things they ask volunteers or they just pick someone from the crowd.Rick wrote: Oh and visit the London Dungeon. I loved it! Go to Freddie's Old place and put your signature on the door at at gardon lodge. Watch how many fuck wits you will upset here who act like they know him and or ever better act as if they know Mary and whilst having a cup of tea with her she said she cant stand the graffiti. |
Brian_Mays_Wig 13.05.2008 09:43 |
There is a superb pub around the corner from Freddies house called the Kensington Arms, just off Kensington High Street. Great food, welcoming and cheap beer! Oh, and a pool table. |

Look up link for Queen related places like studios, venues etc. To buy Queen records London is probably not a better place than any other city. It's more likely to find a rare vinyl record in a small town store than in London where thousands of tourists are on the hunt each day. |

Lot's of pubs in Camden have outside seating areas, which are covered and have heaters, so you can still enjoy a cigarette with a pint, which is some comfort. Some hotels are still smoking, travelodges were, until a couple of months ago, now you get an £150 fine if you smoke in them, which I have been on the receiving end of. I miss the good old smoking days where you could smoke wherever you want :( |
Ms. Rebel 16.05.2008 09:40 |

Can you tell me something about costs of life in London? I heard from people that have been there it's pretty expensive. Also can you compare the costs to last year. Is anything changed since then? |
JoxerTheDeityPirate 18.05.2008 05:33 |
its VERY expensive in London. im popping up there in August and the thought of the price of a beer is scaring the crap out of me.a mate of mine who works in theatreland [adelphi] recently paid £4 for a pint of lager in a pub. as ive already mentioned, try not to use a black taxi cab,you need a second mortgage to pay the fare. Freya and Jessie will probably be able to give more details... |
john bodega 18.05.2008 07:45 |
From a non-smoker perspective, at first I liked that they'd banned it because I found breathing too much of the stuff would play hell with my vocal cords. Of course, these days when I go out on the piss, I shout every second word because I'm a hyperactive drunk and me and my friend like seeing what we can get away with before being thrown out/beaten up, so I really don't care if I've got an itchy throat anymore. And don't you know it, all the interesting people are usually outside puffing away. Grr! |
JoxerTheDeityPirate 18.05.2008 08:25 |
^thats what happens when you get killjoys running things.you get left with the boring people sitting at the bar while all the interesting people are outiside.most people now bring their own booze and have a swig on the patio or wherever as theres no one out there watching them, plus its easier now to smoke a joint |
