Which version of Hammer To Fall do you prefer? 1. LP/Album Version 2. Single Edit/Greatest Hits II Version 3. Malouf Mix 4. Headbangers Mix 5. MTV Version ...... I personally prefer the album version, but do you realize how many people who download the music off of limewire probably only have the single edit version? Haha. A lot of the new Queen fans probably don't know about the different song versions. I've talked to some people who didn't even know what a single was! |

jcomber wrote: Live at Wembley 86, One of Brian's best Solos.Probably the best ever rendition of this song. Powerful and totally awesome. Was always one of their best live songs. As soon as I heard it on the Works I knew it was geared for live performances. My favourite track from Wembley 86 without a doubt! |

Yeah I prefer the album version. But I also like the slow/fast live versions quite a bit. It's such a beautiful melody when slowed down like that. |

Headbangers Mix, It verges on Orgasmic! I have the rare photo sleeve 12" single which I got in Woolworths in 1985 for about £2. Live too Hammer To Fall was awesome, I nearly fell off my seat at Wembley headbanging to what is one of my faves. "Hey, Hey,Hey,Hey! Hammer to Fall!!!", Freddie announced before BM rips out that Riff that come out of the Young Brothers book of killer riffs. The single mix is toilet, edited to death. Didn't like the slow version either. Anyone heard the metal version of Love Kills by Freddie or She Blows hot and Cold now they would have sounded great on Made in Heaven |

From those Jacob cited, my favorite is certainly that from the original recording. The live performance in Live Aid is, of course, perfect and it's a further proof that it was the greatest rock n roll concert by any band ever. Every Queen fan should stand for this point. lol It's important because there's no question about it - "Oh, but the Stones are better", ok, the Stones and the Beatles are much better, but the greatest show ever, the greatest live concert ever in the history of rock n roll is Queen's performance at Live Aid. Don't be ashamed, Queen fans, of defending this point! That performance of Hammer To Fall, and the sweet vocal improvisation before, just kicks off. Well, all the songs are great there, Queen was on fire. For the reasons I mentioned in another thread, I like Hammer to Fall live at Japan, 1985, 05-15(?), is it? I like it. It's not good throughout, but it has beautiful clever different moments and some sparks of genius by Freddie. John's bass line can be heard quite well and he does a wonderful job. There are other good live performances, but I'd stick to that one at Live Aid, and for reasons of innovation and musical intelligence, the one in Japan. |

I wish they would of played the whole song slowed down because i think the transition to the rock part sounds kind of wierd. I usually back it up again just to hear the slow part. I would love to hear the whole song that way. |

Live at Wembley '86! So powerful and emotional! The Live Aid version was scorching as well--so fast and energetic! And though he doesn't surpass any Freddie performances, the Queen + Gary Cherone version at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert was AMAZING! They TORE THAT PLACE APART! So much energy and passion! |

I also wonder why the hell Hammer To Fall didn't chart in the USA back in '84, yet it did when they released a promo single of it in '92... rediculous. Didn't it rock just as much in 1984? YES! |

Totally wasted done that way and ruined what impact the song had in the beginning. Done the slow / fast way, it should be renamed to "Kiddies Soft Mallet To Fall". Get back to the album version, Bri!! |

From your list, the single version is a little tighter than the LP version, so I'd pick that. My favourite version of the song is from Live at Wembley '86, and the fast/slow version is one of my favourite tracks from the 2005 set. |

I like the version on the Highlander Soundtrack. I don't know what version it is but it is not quite the same as the single or album version. |

*puts on helmet and protective goggles* Actually, the one that's grown on me the most is the RETURN OF THE CHAMPIONS version. I love the mellow, laid back first verse & chorus. Would've been nice to hear Freddie do this version, but the multiple vocals works too! |

Torn between album and headbangers. Don't really like the slow / fast one as it's one of their biggest, hardest rock songs and should remain as such in my opinion. That first riff is just too good not to use. Live Aid and Wembley '86 are excellent live versions also |
