Pootle1 wrote this in a thread elsewhere, and I think it's worth emphasizing here... Greg isn't unnaproachable, but he is careful about what he says and always tries to cut the conversation short. I'm sure he'd like to scream from the rooftops and tell us what he's found and what's coming out and when its coming out but QPL will have his balls if he says something he shouldn't. If any of us had Greg's job, you wouldn't risk losing it would you! GB... You are ABSOLUTELY right. You'd probably be staggered at the number of people that still do not grasp the points you have accurately and succinctly noted. Thank you for that. Even at the various conventions I get people saying, "You HAVE to tell us more. You MUST elaborate on what little you said. It is just a tease when you only say that 'something great' is in the pipeline, but then you won't say what." Well.... I can either HINT at things, or 'tease' if you prefer that term, and in so doing keep you guys excited by what's coming, or I can say nothing at all. I get VERY excited when I hear about certain product is happening, or planned to happen, and what I'll be working on (with the Queen team)... so I just like to impart a bit of that, share what I can. And most people 'get it'. And they respectfully leave it at that. While others get VERY shirty, angry, irritated, obnoxious, abusive, even aggresive. I'm used to those kinds of people. Pootle, you summed it up just right. Please SPREAD THE WORD to those who still give me a hard time. Isn't it nice to know that 'something' great is heading your way at the end of this year (if it stays on schedule), and look forward to it, rather than know NOTHING???? I think it is. We are working VERY VERY VERY hard to make it a really FAB product. Regards |

Someone recorded what you said at the convention. Would you mind it being uploaded on queenzone? Really looking forward to the new product!!! I hope it is as exciting as you claim it to be:-) |

YES "someone recorded what I said at the convention" even after I virtually BEGGED the people there for NO-ONE to record it. Brian was kind and generous enough to agree, Justin helped me sort thru it, and I asked extremely politely for NO-ONE to abuse the situation and record it. "Otherwise," I told them "Brian won't agree to this again and I won't be allowed to play such things for you guys again." That's fair, isn't it. We could not be fairer than that. What happens? Still some faceless selfish bugger abuses it. Some annoying deceiptful git records it ANYWAY - ignoring what I asked because it suits THEM, and everyone else can go to hell!!!!!!! I would prefer you DID NOT put it up onsite, please. I ask you politely. Again. In fact, why don't you tell me who it was that recorded my 'spot' on stage, and then I can write to them direct (as can you all) to thank them for fucking it all up for everyone else, AGAIN. This really annoys me. "Please DO NOT record this stuff" means exactly that. It's not ambiguous. There are some selfist tossers out there that always spoil it for everyone. If my comments were recorded, then so too was the music. Right????????? Who was that person? Please let me know (anonymously if you prefer), at... gb.queen_archive@btinternet.com How bloody irritating, again. |

Nice Greg, But let's hope it will be excisting and more important not cancelled like other stuff that was in the pipeline. What happened to the idea of making a Box with studio and life extras for every 3 or 4 queen albums, I know this was an idea long time ago. Can you at least tell us why something like that was cancelled or put on the schelve. But more important keep up the good work. |

But more important keep up the good work.At a guess, I'd say it's because the big button got pushed up top and the band started doing new tours/making new music. No sense in archiving something that isn't completed. I think, anyway. I'm sure there's examples of artists doing their anthology while they're still active, but personally I'd wait till I was infirmed (or dead) before I had my big boxset released. Just imagine the problems with having to release Boxset Junior - The stuff that wasn't covered last time. I suppose it's somewhat arguable as to whether or not that's applicable to Queen and Q+PR. One might see them as different entities, and therefore there'd be no point in holding up Queen releases for the sake of future Q+PR stuff. Personally I feel that's why it's been held up for so long. They probably kept going 'we'll get to it, we'll get to it'.... project after project getting in the way, and then this Q+PR thing happened and it's on the backberner. Not that I give a shit, I've got a few years left in me to wait it all out. I sort of feel that Brian's a bit too much of a perfectionist to let us hear anything juicy anyhow... how many botched piano outtakes followed by Freddie shouting "FUCK" can there be, anyway? |
cmsdrums 27.04.2008 15:21 |
I don't think the Q&PR tours/recordings should in any way hold up a Queen archive release. In fact with the band receiving more public attention at the time of a tour or new album with PR, that would be an ideal time to start releasing the archive stuff with Freddie. If it were held up for no real reason, it would be like holding up a Beatles box set in case Wings were doing stuff! My opinion however, based on past hints, promises (such as release dates for the Singles Boxset, the Live At The BBC release actually advertised on the Let Me Live singles etc) is that we won't, at least for another 20 years at least, see any decent Queen archive audio releases. Back to Greg's points -(and I have both praised and criticized him in the past, so I have no agenda and will comment on points on their own merits)- I agree that if a request has been made specifically not to record the aired tracks, and the goodwill is shown by QP to play stuff based on this trust, then it should not be done. at least those fans at these convention airings could hear the tracks, make notes, then relate them here and comment appropriately. Now, as Greg says, the futue possibility of these treats is out of the window. Shame. (ps I have never been to a convention). Greg - you state that you are all working VERY VERY VERY hard to make the release great. I really hope that this isn't the same type of great as the appaling ANATO anniversary special, or the 'fantastic extras' on the Montreal DVD that Brian deemed to be far more exciting than the Saturday Night Live performances. I'm sorry to sound so negative, and will be only too pleased to eat my hat, but we can really only go on past performance when it comes to reliability and quality of releases. If someone repeatedly promises things that are going to be great, and then they either never happen or eventually happen but do not live up to the hype actually given out, then this is an understandable view to take. |

I wouldn't get TOO excited - probably a DVD release - perhaps Live in Rio - now that would be FAB! Ahem... Or then again, Live in Budapest; another 80's concert I think Greg (and others)that what Queen connissuers actually want is a glimpse of the genius that made us fans in the first place....somethin from NOTW tour, Jazz tour or earlier (Hyde park?? Earls court?)- - would also give younger fans a chance to see the real Queen |
AlexRocks 27.04.2008 22:57 |
It has been said before that they have wanted to update most all of their previous film releases so I would not get your pants all in a wad over something that gets re-released. Hell, I think it is great these things get done and get re-released at all. Are you all 90 and on your death bed or something? I'm sure good things are yet to come but they must be done properly. |

I think Queen has a duty towards their fans after all these years, not the other way around. Queen fans should not be treated like a herd one can manipulate at his own will. Being so vicious towards a fan because he recorded this is really a disgrace. Your behavior strikes me as so manipulative that I get really disgusted. It makes my enthusiasm for the band decrease more and more. |
