Heres something to get you thinking. What, in your opinion, was John's flashiest moment live? Brian had many of these obviously, what with his solo spots and various spots within the songs, similarly Freddie and Roger. But John, by all accounts, had relatively few. Those few though were brilliant imo. For instance in the early days there was stuff like Liar. When he did that short but sweet solo, he shone like the brightest star. It was as if he had musically told Brian to take a back seat for a minute or two so that he could take over. Its the same with Under Pressure and Another One Bites The Dust. Those for me were the bits where, when he played, you watched him rather than the others in the band. Brilliant and damn effective he was. I often wonder how he would feel if he had a similar type of role that Andy Fraser of Free had. With Free, Andy played almost a bass lead style from which guitarist Paul Kossof bounced off. Would John have prefered that or not? Merely conjecture I know, but there is no harm in it. Btw... I only used Free as an example (I could have mentioned Mark King of Level 42 for instance), so no Paul bashing in this thread So what was your "John" moment? |

Maybe WWRY Fast. I think he had a couple of solo moments there where the band stopped. I think Live Killers has this.... |

The finest John Deacon moment has to be The Millionaire Waltz. The solo within the first few moments of the song is absolutely beautiful. |

John live contribution was as decisive as fair. Never over the lines but absolutely run the business. Personally (I hadn't the opportunity to see the REAL Queen live, grrrrr) I missed him and his mark on stage during last tour even Danny done the best work as possible. Concerning the John's flashiest moment live, I would like to remember BohRhap, expecially the early verse: try to dignified survive in Freddie's background if you can... Am I the only one who really enjoyed his moment of really funky playing during "Dragon Attack"? And not just his runs up the frets where he was basically doing a solo, but also when he would be jamming along, with Bri soloing over the top and Roger holding it all down (and of course Freddie air guitaring it on his mike stand). If you've seen the song on the dvd live in Montreal in '81, it is, for me anyways, one of my favorite moments. |

He does go for it a few times on Dragon Attack, especially on Rock Montreal when he cosies up to Brian and just get plain funky, and when Brian breaks a string on On Fire At The Bowl |

What about the whole Wembley 1986 gig that is officially released? He is far more into the show than Brian for example. He makes splendid moves and dances the whole show through. He really enjoys being there on stage and isn't afraid 'to sing' in quite some songs. That's what I like so much about this concert. John isn't the shy guy as for example during the Hammersmith 1979 concert. |

I like what Rogers says in the QRM DVD, something along the lines of "I forgot how much John used to dance onstage." I think whenever he was onstage in his afro counts as a John Flashy Moment. |

John Deacon has always been one of the most underrated bass players in rock & roll. There isn't a single album where I don't listen and think, "Damn. I wish I could do that." Especially evident on the instrumental version of The Show Must Go On from the karaoke comilation thing from a few years back. But his flashiest moment? The triangle solo in Millionare Waltz. |
