I absolutely LOVE them... Only just recently got to know them better and.. boy... SKY MOVES SIDEWAYS is one of the best albums EVER, IMO... couldn't believe that such a great prog music was somewhere near me and I didn't know it... Saw them live in Nottingham last December and... it was better than any Dream Theater gig... even the one when they played Dark Side Of The Moon. Yep- that good...
In two months I bought almost everything they released, some albums in few versions (those 5.1 mixes are BRILLIANT! In Absentia in particular) and... I think I listen to them more than anyone else at the moment.
Favourite tracks? ARRIVING SOMEWHERE, DARK MATTER, THE SKY MOVES SIDEWAYS, SLEEP TOGETHER, RADIOACTIVE TOY, WAITING and HEARTATTACK IN A LAYBY...
Any others here thinking that Steven Wilson is some kind of musical god? ;)
EDIT:
I also discovered Opeth's DAMNATION album... God, what an emotional journey this LP is... Don't like growling so their other albums are not exactly my cup of tea- but this one... wow... mentioning it, because it's produced by Steven Wilson... no matter what he touches it turns to gold...
I found out who these guys were last year?
I got given a cd with them and some other band on it from a music shop in down...they said that they might be a good unfluence on my music... still haven't listened to them
Welcome to the club, Fenderek! :-)
Been following them ever since 1996!!
Sky Moves is also my favourite album!
I hear what your saying about Dream Theater. I have the same thing: PT is technically and construction-wise just as good but (contrary to Dream Theater) PT never gets 'fiddly' just to show off their musical skills and never loses touch of an actual song.
Did not like Deadwing that much, because it was too 'obvious', but I'm glad it made them more well known with a lot of people.
Fear of a Black Planet is great too, the other ones I would advise you to check out are indeed In Absentia (great guitar riffs!), Signify (great songs, just after their Pink Floyd-sound period, before they went realy prog) or Up The downstair and Voyage 34 if you want to smoke weed! ;-))
If you checked out all the PT stuff, go on the discoverd Blackfield and No-Man. FANTASTIC work from Steve Wilson. He's SO very active outside PT and it is all great.
Good you saw them live!
It's even better live then on record!
That's awesome Fend! It's awesome that you've found a new band that you enjoy so much. It's good that there is some actual talent still out there!!
Enjoy!!!
