After a long boring period full of boring and useless war threads I have decided that it's time for some music again. I want to start sharing something like a "Best Of The Best" concert series. Every concert will be in flac format (sorry mp3 kids), and in best available sound quality. I want to share only shows which have a perfect performance and / or a perfect sound quality or are very important for some other reason. All concerts would have at least some cover art, preferably a complete booklet, reviews (both professional and fan reviews), photos ... I think from every year Queen were on tour I could upload 2 or max 3 best concerts. BEFORE I start to upload anything, I really have to ask a couple of questions 1) Is there enough interest for it ? I really don't want to spend hours of free time if nobody will care for it 2) Would some of the "cover artists" who visit this forum be so nice and provide me/us with their work ? (Alex, I'm looking in your direction :) ) 3) The most important thing - which concerts would you like to see uploaded ? Remember, 2 or 3 best concerts from each year ! So, anybody interested in this ? Also, would anybody be willing to help me with the upload in the case somebody requests a show that I don't have or have it in best available quality ? |
daffy_the_duck 09.03.2008 10:51 |
That's a fantastic idea Pittrek! I'm not a die hard collector so I don't have a lot of recordings, but if I could help you in the upload of "best of the best boots", I'm glad to do it! For the choice of the concerts, sir Bob has made a top 10, which could be used for the inspiration. |
pittrek 09.03.2008 11:04 |
Hm, Bob's Top 10 list looks surprisingly similar to mine :-) So the upload will definitely start with my 3 source compilation of Golders Green Hippodrome and end with Knebworth |
TimBHM 09.03.2008 11:21 |
I think this is a fantastic idea too and I was also thinking about Bob's top 10 although the list he shared here a while back is actually different from the list he gives on his website. I'd be more than happy to help out with uploading although my own list is still quite small (40-50 concerts). |
Pim Derks 09.03.2008 12:57 |
I hope someone will at some point compile a set of FLAC-discs of each tour, including all the tracks performed on that particular tour in the best possible quality. I.E one-off/rare performances like Mannish Boy, Staying Power in 1984 etc. etc. Would also be great to have something like that from the solo tours, which (mainly in Brian's case) had lots of one-offs (Sail Away..., Sleeping..., Kalinka, Hoochie Coochie Man etc. etc.) |
Queenrockyou 09.03.2008 13:41 |
Hi Pittrek !! Really nice move, I can help with some bootlegs as I have a good collection of silvers here right now, so I can upload the artwork too. Send me an email if you want to have my list. I would be happy to help you on that ! Regards, Olivier, France. |
pittrek 09.03.2008 14:19 |
Hi, Olivier, thanks for the offer, I will definitely contact you later, I will need some help with the 80's. The first share will be 1973 - Golders Green Hippodrome (my 3 source compilation) and Liverpool. I HOPE it will be uploaded next week |
Vali 09.03.2008 15:21 |
excellent idea, as excellent are all your sharings. I have over 140 shows from 1973 to 1986. Some of them are the same show from different sources, and most of them collected here at QZ or at Dime. Will stay at your disposal in order to somehow contribute to this project. brgrds |
ana_libra 09.03.2008 15:47 |
Great! Let's do it!!! |
tommycharles 09.03.2008 17:12 |
Great plan! I'm new to QZ.com, so it would be a great way to hear some of these concerts I'm always hearing so much about (Hammersmith 75, Hammersmith 79, Houston 77 are the ones that spring to mind, nothing from The Works tour ever gets that good of a rap around here). |
bohemianmoomin 09.03.2008 18:57 |
I wholeheartedly support this idea pittrek. I'll help seed as always! |

I was wondering if by chance the enthousiasm of such a project could to gentle Queenzoners like Pittrek, me or Daffy, TimBHM, Vali, and anyone else willing to help, could lead to the re-uploading of ALL the gigs we could share here. It's a fact that a good lot of new Queenzoners arrived here on Queenzone in the recent times, a good lot of them willing to learn new things about Queen recordings. Tommycharles in this topic is one example, and in fact I belong to this category too, I missed some good old records, because they were shared only via torrents or things like that. In that case, if we could share our recordings here, we could start and try something that could be sharing all the recordings and try to rate them, to identify the best ones. A table with all the results of our ratings (for example if ten persons download a gig, they in turn answer what their rate is, and we took the middle figure to rate definitely the gig, without forgetting that a rate is a suggestive thing). So we would respond to Pittrek's goal, which is sharing the best recordings, and to the goal of other peoples and new Queen fans (yes there are some) which would be to complete their collection and learn all that can be learned about Queen on a stage. Of course we would only talk about audio maybe, as uploading video is long and the wonderful idea of a tree-sharing is on its way. Maybe you would answer me this is a crazy project, but as we are mostly against hoarders here, and most of us from generous-minded, if we could share the work of all this uploading, maybe this could be more easy for everyone. We would need the most generous and numerous people to help here, but do you think this could be a great project ? Sorry Pittrek for stealing your post, this is not the goal, but I was just wondering if we could go further or not when I saw all the enthusiasm your idea raised. Anyway, it's late and I'm maybe already dreaming. Anyway, just an idealistic thought and a conviction this could be made. So my final question for today would be would you be ready to help sharing your recordings, provided that the quality is 100% checked (we can help you to do that if you don't know already), the number of sharers is sufficient to share the work, and the shares are made in the most efficient way (I mean people share here as they wish but in the end each show could be shared as a torrent and a mediafire/rapidshare/megaupload or any other sharing system, to be available to the greatest number of persons)? If I can remember, this was made for the year 1973, but unfortunately not followed by 1974, I am sure most people here expected to. It could be great to list all the concerts available, for all the newbies here, and update the great "Flac list" made some times ago with some fresh links and chek and discuss lineage and quality here and there when needed, and add some info. Let's also say that the idea of making covers is still in the air, maybe Alex could make this his wonderful talent as a cover creator working again, and could be joined by the others of us who can do maginificient job too (we met some across the years here), but maybe only for the gigs voted as the best ones. Once again, sorry Pittrek if I offended you, it was not the goal, but I had this idea in mind and couldn't stand asking if this project could be made. Of course I add my contribution to this project, or to yours if it's decided as a better one. So it is just a question ! Regards, Olivier, France. |

Fantastic idea Pittrek! I have had this wish (or maybe you could call it a fantasy!) for a few years now that as part of the Queen Anthology (which will be released next century) there would be this amazing "live" boxset to accompany/compliment the studio stuff. This box set would be a definitive representation of Queen's live career, containing the best available audio & visual show from each & every tour that the band ever embarked upon. Just one show, from each tour, completely unedited & in all it's naked glory, warts & all. So, Pittrek, excellent idea indeed. I know I won't be alive next century, so bring it on! |
Nummer2 10.03.2008 05:43 |
Great idea, pittrek. Of course, the opinions on which shows should be uploaded will vary, but that's just normal. Why not make a sort of poll each time you want to upload a show? My personal suggestions: Queen I tour: Golders Green or Liverpool or Manchester? Queen II tour: Rainbow (March) or Portland? Sheer Heart Attack tour: Cologne or Milwaukee or Tokyo (May 1)? ANATO tour: Manchester or Tokyo (March 31)? ADATR tour: Copenhagen or Glasgow? NOTW tour: Houston or Copenhagen? Jazz tour: Vancouver or Osaka? Crazy tour: Newcastle or London (Kampuchea)? Game tour: Chicago or London (Dec.8) or Frankfurt? ... to be continued. |

SHA - Tokyo 1.May will be of course uploaded, I plan to re-upload stark's remaster of Young Nobles Of Rock. Feel free people to write your personal preferences. BTW what would you prefer - rapidshare or mediafire ? I will upload things from office, which means no torrents (at least not from me) |

I'm higly interested in those sharings!!! I'm not a Photoshop master, but I may try to create a cover art for a CD...I just need some info. I'd love to hear Barcelona '86...for a 'complete' list of my wishes...there are too many concerts I'm missing, I will be very happy everytime you willl share a concert! Riccardo |
GiantSpider 10.03.2008 09:35 |
I've just finished downloading that (Starks remaster of Young Nobles of Rock), so I can reseed it. And whats the difference between your GG and Starks remaster just out of curiosity? Cheers |

Mediafire please pittrek - you have to wait too long in between files on Rapidshare. |

Mediafire is far superior to Rapidshare. It works smoothly and fast and it doesn't require waiting cycles. |

wonderful idea, pitrek. I'll try to give my little help with any file I got (even a single song through rapidshare). |

The only thing I can add is... let's not call these "bootlegs", because they are not all bootlegs. Some are, but others are RoIOs. This is a major difference, especially when trying to distinguish between the various versions of recordings. |

I used to think that Mediafire was better than Rapidshare but I just lost my mind with Mediafire. It just deletes random files when it feels like it - I have so many concerts now which are incomplete because Mediafire dropped 1 file out of 5 etc. In the end I just sucked it up and bought a month's Rapidshare account and tried to grab everything I could. I'm much happier now! But seriously... if I was to pick the "best" shows from each tour I'd go for: (you'll probably see I'm a bit of a Stark fanboy...) Queen I: Golder's Green 13/9/73 - Queen Will Be Crowned [Stark Remaster] Golder's Green 13/9/73 - Pop Spectacular (one day I'll work out how to mix these two into the ultimate version!) Queen II: Rainbow Theatre 31/3/74 Exposition Hall, Portland 28/4/74 Sheer Heart Attack: Rainbow Theatre 20/11/74 Uptown Theatre, Milwaukee 7/3/75 Shizuoka, Japan 29/4/75 - Seven Seas Of Tsumagoi [Stark Remaster] Tokyo, Japan 1/5/75 - Young Nobles Of Rock [Stark Remaster] A Night At The Opera: Free Trade Hall, Manchester 26/11/75 (not the best audio quality but the band are on fire!) Hammersmith Odeon 25/12/75 - There Ain't No Sanity Clause (would love to have this one myself, I have the Westwood One version) Osaka, Japan 29/3/76 AM & PM - Zoom & Zoom Queen (obviously!) Tokyo, Japan 4/4/76 A Day At The Races: Seattle, Washington 13/3/77 - Bob's version if he's able to share Earl's Court 6/6/77 - A Night At The Court (True Flac) News Of The World: Houston, Texas 11/12/77 Stockholm, Sweden 12/4/78 Copenhagen, Denmark 13/4/78 Jazz: Montreal, Quebec 1/12/1978 Toronto, Ontario 3/12/1978 Chicago, Illinois 7/12/1978 Live Killers: Cologne, Germany 1/2/79 Munich, Germany 11/2/79 Then a huge gap opens up in my collection... thoughts anyone? |

Hey guys, why don't we do a Rapidshare account and then we share the password and user among who pays for it? |
Queenrockyou 10.03.2008 17:00 |
I couldn't be more than OK with you, rapidshare is far better than mediafire for UPloaders. It keeps the files far longer. I think Megaupload could be great too, as we can upload far bigger files. But I don't really know it, I bought a two-months premium account in order to download some gigs from other bands, and I am quite happy to see that files uploaded more than 18 months ago are still available, but I don't really know all about Megaupload (available in all countries etc...). So between rapidshare and mediafire, RS is the best one for me, even if downloading can be longer without buying a premium account. But seeing all that could be sure, buying one could be a good thing, even for some months only. Regards, Olivier, France. |

But something like the third gen transfer of Oakland 80 is definitely an RoIO, and not a bootleg, until some company presses it and sells it. It's just a cultural stigma... most people think all unreleased recordings are bootlegs, but it's a bit more complicated than that. Check out the glossary page on my website if you already haven't. :) 2) Is it OK to put here pics from your site (with proper credits, of course) ?Absolutely... and I don't think you need to credit me for pictures, as they're not mine (thanks for the thought, though)! It sounds nice and great... But 2 things: 1. Not rapidshare please. I hate to wait 1 hour between downloads. 2. Will this include Queen + Paul Rodgers concerts too? |
Queenrockyou 11.03.2008 10:55 |
Hi Maruga ! Yep, rapidshare has onr only default is that it can be free, but you have to wait between two downloads. But why not paying 16,99 € for three months for example ? I did so, and finally paid for one year, just to enjoy downloading from Queenzone and other forums. I can't access to torrents. There are some of us who experienced annoying problems with mediafire, so this one should unfortunately be excluded. So I'm afraid the best thing to do is pay for rapidshare services, wait between downloads, or wait for a torrent to be created maybe. There are some of them already on this forum, but you know that, so I'm quite sure some of the uploads would be converted in torrents too. But my opinion is that they should be shared both ways, and not only torrents. AS far as the QPR gigs are concerned, I would be OK if they were shared in this topic of "The Best of The Best". I think QPR should be placed alongside Queen, as well as solo stuff too could be shared. I missed quite a number of QPR gigs because of torrent-only sharing, and would be more than happy to hear some good stuff from them. Maybe I don't have the best ones ! Do you know which gigs from QPR you would like to be shared ? Let's choose two or three that could be rated as the best ones ! Maybe we should start the poll right now, in order to know what to share. Would you like to be the first to share your opinion about QPR gigs ? Regards, Olivier, France. |
