What happened yesterday was completely INCREDIBLE. It must be a miracle...
To make an extremely long story short, I won a $1000 violin in a raffle after I test-drove it in a concert.

Well... There was a time when a "guitar" would be something like this: link
Nowadays we have electric ones shaped these: link link
But we still call the latter ones "guitars", don't we? ;)
When you make an electric instrument, you can shape the body the way you want it, because any random piece of wood with pickups on it will have a sound as long as you put a nice bridge, a good neck and strings. ;P
True. However, violins have a certain sophistication about them, when they're made of wood. Plastic ones look cheap no matter how expensive they are.
Well done though.

They aren't plastic. ;) It's wood. And the kind of wood can affect drastically the sound of the instrument.
I get your point, though. They tend to be all sophisticated, shaped nicely, etc. I guess it's just a matter of taste. Some guitarists will always use those semi-hollowed guitars that look like a violin, a cello or something similar, while others will go for the most avant-garde-looking instrument they can find in shops. :P
