I'm quite curious to know how many musicians we have on Queenzone. Therefore, if you're a musician, perhaps you could answer the following questions. Thanks. 1. What instrument(s) do you play, and for how long have you played them? 2. How familiar are you with music theory and composition? 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? Of course, you may add comments in regards to other musicians on the thread and provoke conversation. Enjoy! |

I shall be the first I suppose. 1. What instrument(s) do you play, and for how long have you played them? I've played the trumpet for about nine years so far and in several different bands, all of which associated with the high school I graduated from. I've been in a jazz band, brass quintet, full orchestra, concert band, and marching band. I also used to be in the choir as well, although I'm hardly much of a singer. 2. How familiar are you with music theory and composition? I studied music theory for several months on my own, and then took a course at my high school covering music theory one through two. But, I must admit, I've forgotten quite a bit of it. It comes back to me every now and then though. I hope to enforce it into my memory once I begin majoring in music (which should be in about a year and a half, I transfer after I attain my degree in education). 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) I'm a recreational composer in the hopes of becoming a more professional composer. My compositions don't necessarily follow the rules of music theory, but I do try to use them as guidelines from time to time. The only experiance I have of writing is from writing for my own amusement; only once have I performed a song of mine, but it was a stupidly simple blues piece I had to perform in order to graduate from high school. It was the first song I ever wrote. 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? In the pop world, it would have to be Elton John, Billy Joel, Maynard Fergusan, and Chuck Mangione. However, my all time favorite composer would have to be Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Seriously, if you haven't gotten into his music, I would recommend doing so. His most popular pieces include the '1812 Overture', 'Swan Lake', 'Romeo and Juliet', and, my favorite, his 'Piano Concerto No. 1'. link |

ooo fun! something i can relate to! 1. What instrument(s) do you play, and for how long have you played them? ive played piano since i was 10...so 10 years. ive been playing bass for (i think) 6 years, i know a little drums and guitar, but my voice is my main instrument. all are self-taught. 2. How familiar are you with music theory and composition? i actually cant read notes. i took piano lessons for 6 years, and i did a great job fooling my teachers by playing by ear. i have a vague knowledge in theory. 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) i am, and ....we'll see how critisism is when i release this album! 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? i could list about 100 easily, but RHCP is probably my second favorite band. i also love just about anything chris cornell and yma sumac do. |

I'm no longer active as a musician, it's until I can find myself a decent bunch of guys to play original music. I'm keeping busy, keeping fit so to speak.... but yeah. Not a 'real' one at the moment. |

^ Nonsense. As long as you have a love for music and have the ability to either write or perform it you're a 'real' musician. Sparrow, you're a self taught musician? That's awesome! And what about your album? |

Alrighty, 1. What instrument(s) do you play, and for how long have you played them? Erm I've played piano for 4 years now (I think), bass for almost 2 years, guitar for 6 months and I started teaching myself drums and how to sing (Although I still can't) a couple of years ago... 2. How familiar are you with music theory and composition? I'd like to not answer this one =) 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) I'd classify myself as crap. 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? Hey daVinci, Wolfmother, Hoobastank, The Beatles, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Lovex, HIM, The Kinks and such. I would suggest you to listen to As The Light, Duck Soup Solo, Silent Elegance and The He Fivs, but I know none of you will (Mostly cause we have really no way of recording all together without tearing my mp3 player's sound apart...) |

Enjoy!I play all stringed instruments including Piano,Tenor and G Banjo, mandolin and all guitars and have been playing them most of my life.In the case of acoustic Guitar i've been playing that since i was 4 years old. I have been familiar with music theory since i was first able to write music.I guess you could say that was when i first started learning to read music when i was at school, but in earnest that would be when i was about 15 when i started writing my own songs.I've written and took part in musicals As a composer i think i'm ok however i'm always willing to learn as all good composers should do. Led zeppelin,Vivaldi,Chopin,Black Sabbath,Neil Diamond,Gilbert O'sullivan,Ryan Adams,Bryan Adams,Jerry Donahue,AC/DC,Jimi Hendrix,Artur Rubinstein.A real ecclectic mix. |

1. What instrument(s) do you play, and for how long have you played them? - Guitar, piano, violin, bass, flute, drums and some harmonica. For how long? I dunno, I don't remember those things. 2. How familiar are you with music theory and composition? - Well what I most like about theory is all that stuff regarding harmony and that kind of things. I don't know what a "correct" answer would be for this one. 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) - I am. I guess I'm good. 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? - Electric Light Orchestra, The Alan Parsons Project, KayaK, The Bee Gees, The Moody Blues, Kansas. Those are my very favourite bands. |

How familiar are you with music theory and composition? I have a master's degree in music from UNT. 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) Yes. I don't classify myself, but I make a living off of it. 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? That changes daily. I don't really like Bon Jovi, but I do like Toto. |

1. What instrument(s) do you play, and for how long have you played them? *Violin- 12 years *Piano- 1 1/2 years *Percussion- 5 years *Recorder- a few months *Voice- since I came out of the womb. All self-taught also. ;) Well, my older cousin helped me on the violin a bit, but I re-taught myself in sixth grade, if that makes any sense. 2. How familiar are you with music theory and composition? Well, I've been taking music classes at school since fourth grade (I'm now in ninth grade)... 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) Good. 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Guns N' Roses, Scorpions, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones.... The list could be interminable. *Just a note*: I've been a professional musician in my uncle's mariachi since I was two years old. You don't believe me? Just look at how long I've been playing the violin. ;) |

1.What instrument(s) do you play, and for how long have you played them? Violin=5 or 6 years. Piano=10-12 years, more or less depending on how you think about it, I guess, should that make any sense. 2. How familiar are you with music theory and composition? Familiar enough. I take lessons in piano, and in orchestra it's mainly in school and I've had lessons on and off for the violin over years. I know a lot about music composers from reading and learning stuff, I suppose. 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) I've never composed any legitimate music in my life. Reminds me... Did you know that Balakirev wrote "Islamey" and later admitted there were parts in it that even he himself, the composer, for God's sake, could not play?... xD 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? I could go on for hours. Lots of rock and pop people. Classical guys like Rachmaninov and Beethoven and Strauß and Stravinsky. :D And much more. |

1. What instrument(s) do you play, and for how long have you played them? The Glockenspiel, for about 13 years. 2. How familiar are you with music theory and composition? Very farmilliar - my greatgrandfather was a famous composer. 3. Are you a composer, and if so, how do you classify yourself? (Ex. Fair, good, excellent) I am indeed - and I am excellent, just like my greatgrandfather, who was a famous composer. 4. Besides Queen, who else are your favorite artists? Kate Bush and S Club 7. |
