This thought has plagued me a bit since yesterday, when I saw this episode of Dr. Phil about virginity and teen sex and all that shite. And that is...
WHY does it seem that people take a girl's virginity to be much more "sacred", perhaps, than a boy's? I mean, there's all sorts of necklaces and rings and purity balls and abstinence pledges and seminars for *girls* to try to get them to stay celibate, but why is it not seen as such a big deal amongst boys? Boys are doing this shit at just as young of an age as girls.
Of course, girls can get pregnant, but everyone can get STDs. I think it's disgusting that anyone my age is buggering another person, but why focus on just the girls, eh???
EDIT: Heheh. I just reread that. I sounded like my head is full of cement. :P
I would say it may have something to do females being the ones who give birth. Being mothers. Being pure up till marriage and not sleeping with any one until the father of the yet to be child comes along... I didn’t make these rules or suggestions or what ever you want to call them... But I think that for a females it a bigger aspect for them to loose there V Plates over a male... men could go for a root any time,, they, we think about it most of the time, we us its been said that for females, although may think the same, perhaps have or require more emotions to be involved, hence when some jerk gets with a girl and take away her virginity he has ripped her of.
Dude, it's male privilege. I'm not quite certain what you're arguing here...do you WANT to be told to remain pure and celibate?
As it is, the entire charade is merely a means of corralling women into traditional gender roles. "Obviously" men are the vorcaious sexual predators, intent on deflowering young maidens. And "obviously" it is the task of the woman to resist, to be the gatekeeper, to ward away the man's advances. It's a way of putting all the responsibility on the woman's shoulders, while giving the men free reign to lust away. This is at the base of the classic virgin/whore dichotomy, and is a pillar of Western sexual fucked-upedness.

To whom are you referring?
If it's toward me, I'm just saying that there's equal importance in educating both boys and girls about the same issues because they do in fact apply to both sexes. As for me personally, I don't ever want sex. I'm satisfied with slash. ;D xD

Ha!
I owe some apologies here. I've heard arguments like this muttered by so many men that I've come to expect it. From men. Maybe I should check out the poster's name more cosely from now on.
The whole situation is pretty shitty, regardless of which side of the carefully patrolled gender fence you're on. Personally I think abstinence programs are a crock of you-know-what, but I do find the programs' insistence on targeting girls equally insulting. Of course men are gigantic vats of sizzling sexual hormones. Of course our every constructive thought is interrupted by images of T&A. Really it's a wonder we can drive a car or pay our taxes. Bleh.
As for slash...awesome.
Simple. We are NOT living in a nice, advanced and "open minded" society. Our society is fucking primitive and still gives many proofs that we still have to mature a lot...
