Yesterday I bought a Queen dvd titled: Queen- We are the champions- Live In Europe.
Well, the gig is Budapest 1986. Sleeve has queen crest surrounded by stars that make the crest look a bit communistic.
It is a bootleg, no menus, VHS-quality picture, quite good sound though. The sleeve design looks very similar of the masterplan bootleg, Live At Japan, ... but this was by some "WoW corporation". Whatever.
The interesting fact is that it was sold in Anttila, a chain of large department stores in Finland. (in a price of 11,95e)
It´s quite surprising that here, in finland, a big department store sells illegal bootlegs of Queen.. Do they even check if these products are legally made?
Has anyone else seen, or bought these dvds?
oh yes, their are available in germany as well and yes, mostly in the big stores! I can't understand this either, at our local mediamarkt store they have a "cheap section" where you get this releases (mostly "Masterplan") under 10 euros. The quality sucks as well, I bought Aerosmith's Texas Jam concert, the left channel is hardly audible while the right is much too loud. The Black Sabbath paris'70 dvd is not watchable, looks like watching a high generation tape on a broken vcr...
Best is to avoid these, all releases I saw are available on places like Dime or Trader's Den.
I haven't seen the Budapest dvd so far though..
Yes, masterplan is not limited into releasing only illegal Queen bootlegs, but there were also Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple bootlegs as well.
Surprisingly, the Live In Europe-bootlegs were sold in the same shelve as the Wembley and Montreal.
Just checked the back sleev of the Live In Rio, by masterplan: It says that the dvd is licensed by Queen Film Ltd.
Hard to believe.

Why is it so hard to believe?
It says "Queen Film", not "Queen Films" as it's supposed to... Maybe they've set up a company of their own under that name.
As a (semi-)serious music fan I have a personal principle of not buying titles which I know to be bootlegs. It can be a bit hard sometimes when it means not being able to own some titles, but at least I'm not supporting organised crime. ;)
I watched 10 minutes of this DVD last week, and it sucks big time.
But the one that sucks more than that is QueenProductions itself, for not releasing Greatest Video Hits 3 DVD (it's been already 4-5 years since GVH2 came out).

too right , give us grt hits 3 in dts , we have been patient , too long :)
A bootleg is a recording which is made and sold without the knowledge of the band. A pirate is an illegal version of official material which is released without the band's approval.
This is a pirate version, if anything. Not a bootleg. Just to clarify.
I considered buying it and probably will eventually because I haven't even had the VHS version in many years. HMV Japan is carrying it, that's how I became aware of it.
Hmm, but I see that Wow (or Wowow) are the folks who released the (apparently official) version of Final Live in Japan too, which is nice quality.

Yeah I can't wait to see the Wyclef Jean version of AOBTD in DTS!

Surprising yes, unheard-of not. I bought my Queen In Nuce bootleg CD from Anttila in mid-90's. In those days Smile & Larry Lurex tracks were very hard to find and remember being VERY surprised to find a CD like that in Anttila.

i also found Queen in Nuce long time ago in a big store in italy. But oh well...was it a bootleg?
i can't suspect of every single cd i find in a legal store :P
ehehe
;)
Sorry for such a big bump, but anyway. I live in Slovenia, Central Europe, and here, they also sell these MasterPlan bootlegs in the major stores. I myself got two - Live In Rio (had to get it, anyway, since my VHS got repaired and is now missing everything after the first third of Radio Ga Ga), and Live In Japan.
But, even though they're bootlegs, they're actually re-releases of official material - Live In Rio was taken from the VHS, and so was Live In Japan, which other-wise would never have seen the light here in Europe. So, in my humble opinion, there isn't much to complain, anyway. The official releases recently only seem to amount to more, and more, Queen + Paul Rodgers stuff, and no more live material done with Freddie is being released.
For one, I'd welcome a DVD release of Live In Budapest (possibly full, as I'd like to hear the missing songs in proper quality - the Full Live In Budapest bootleg, which I downloaded, while being a soundboard recocrding, is just no-where near the quality of even the original VHS of the concert, though the VHS has its flaws as well, such as stuff being over-dubbed onto the audio of the concert, like additional speech in Hammer To Fall, which does NOT appear on the Full Live In Budapest bootleg), and also of the Knebworth Park show.
And I'd also welcome at least one show from The Works tour, maybe one European show (that would be a first, really), and one non-European show, possibly a full concert from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (they just cut too many songs from the VHS). And, of course, a few shows from the '70's would be nice as well. ;)
Hey, you're from Slovenia ?
Many of my previous packages travelled through your country, which is strange because in english the name of our countries differes a lot :)
Anyway here in Slovakia the Masterplan DVDs can be commonly bought, I bought Japan 85 from them a few years ago when I didn't know it's an illegal piece of crap. And I will never forget how I found "Queen In Nuce" in a serious music shop and the chick tried to tell me it's a brand new Queen album :)
