Hi folks, Richard has moved all the fan songs to a new server, so all links should work now. We lost one song: Rafael Siancas - You're My Best Friend. If someone kept it and can send us a copy, that would be nice. Please notify us if we uploaded the wrong version etc (hello Aric :). I also have a song called "lily.mp3" on my HD, I don't know who sent it, it's very good. If the artist sees this, please send a message.
Richard told me we have more server bandwidth now, so soon more songs will follow.
The latest addition is a performance by Queenzoner Dan McCord, just listen to this voice..
Enjoy:)
I like this version.
Not a direct copy of the original which is great.
The harmonies sound great in places, but Queens harmonies can never be easy to reproduce.
Musically, very good.
Keep up the good work.
Matt.
Nice acoustic version. Very nice to hear something as simple and sweet sounding. Although, sometimes the backing vocals are a little hidden in the background. Let them shine man!
Some little timing issues with the piano and the acoustic solo-ey bit, but otherwise a fine addition to the collection of covers here.
Adam.
Adam,
I fully appreciate your immense knowledge about recording perhaps but I'm not totally sure that you understand that these songs are just simply 'amateur' covers generally? Posting stuff up is a reason to gain critique and I totally/fully expect to get it in droves as it will allow me to try to focus on that element-thus 'better' result next time? I'm aware especially of the things that mine can be improved upon but for me its a long slog to get all the parts worked out and notated and 'down'.Playing instruments that aren't my preferred one. ie Piano...(Its a relief just to get some of that worked out and recorded.!!) Granted more engineering (not using Seaside as an example as that wasn't high up on my happy with demo's) would help massively but sometimes the environment and limited stuff to use and eventually interest in the piece does have a lot of bearing on it all? That, and inexperience using said stuff/programms etc etc....Timing issues et al??? Yes, they are there on occasion but...on the whole is my point. Sure, spending longer on stuff would allow us all to shave off the rougher parts but sometimes (and they are just for fun after all!!) these issues get overlooked.
Perhaps that could be taken into account when many people post up? After all we aren't all good at certain stuff...My stuff has areas where the gain is too high, maybe an out of synch bass note here, there everywhere !!but....that is not a big deal for me on the whole when I appreciate the attempts people make. After all we are just hobbyists not 'proper musicians'??
Now, whats the phone number for Rockfield and Roy Thomas Baker? ;) ;)
'Amateur', 'semi-pro' and 'pro' are arbitrary labels IMO. All in all, mistakes can be corrected, so pointing them out in a respectful kind way (like Adam's) is perfectly fine.
Even on Queen records there are several mistakes, but that's not an excuse. If you don't know what you're doing wrong, it'll be harder to grow, regardless of how serious your long-term music ambitions are.
Sebastian, true also. Re-reading my post it does seem to be a 'little' ...erm...maybe slightly irked at Adams comments (overall) It was written as a possible knee-jerk response after reading thru loads of posts here that I have yet to complete. It wasn't intended that way Adam, its just (from my knowledge elsewhere) that sometimes your suggestions have a slight element to them. Apologies if that wasn't the case!! After all production skills DO take practise and I know from other places that many people have mis-interpretted your replies before. Guess I did the same? But I DO agree that constructive criticism IS very good and not something that bothers 'me' .
The problem that put a lot of people posting files up on OTHER forums was the 'fear' of being criticised for incompetance by higher skilled folk. Now there are some not so great versions here also but that should be part of the fun for everyone ,at whatever skill-level to make some noise??
Sure! I'm very new to this format so not sure of how, when where to post, how to move etc... I'll search the help pages for tips as I can see others 'edit' their posts...
Thanks, guys...I really do appreciate the kind comments. I tend to be my own worst critic, I know every single mistake!!(there are many, but who cares, right??)
As you can tell, I'm kind of new at this recording thing, still figuring out how to use it, trial and error, to me, is the best way to learn.
Just a simple 8 track digital recorder, no computers, no Protools, no effects, I think that stuff takes away more than it adds...simple is the way things should be.
Nice way of thinking, Dan. Simple can definitely be better. I found myself having lots of fun with my 16-track recorder more than my computer setup. But now it's simpler...slightly!
It is for fun, but hey, hobby-ists want to improve too, yeah? Doesn't have to be serious at all. And it's certainly not passing judgement. As many here are fond of saying, it's only someone's opinion.
Adam.

Ivan, dont give up just because 1 or 2 people said they didnt like your singing. Not everyone will like what you do but dont stop especially if you enjoy it.
