What do you think of this band? I personally think it's great and actually it's the best band in the planet... I'm from from Argentina and here the band it's almost unknown. I would like to know what do you think of that guys, specially british fans of Queen (many times Muse were compared to Queen and Radiohead). Sorry for my english. Cheers |
Bo Alex 16.01.2008 22:28 |
The Queen comparation comes for the pseudo classic use of piano I think. Songs like "Butterflies and Hurricanes" (the middle part)and "Space Dementia" (what a great song!!!). Also, in the last album in a song called Soldier's Poem they use armonies which remind me a lot Queen. Anyway, I think they have their own sound and their show it's so powerfull (I only saw them on video, they've never come to Argentina and I wish they will!) The Radiohead comparation comes for the voice of Matt Bellamy (very similar to Thom's Yorke one) and the atmosphere of the songs (I don't know how to name that, depressive in somewhere I think)...That's only my opinion. I hope for yours too... |

I think they are absolutely wonderful. I'm becoming a big fan. Unfortunately not many people over here have heard of them. |

.....ASSDUDE...... wrote: YES!!!!! I really like them... funny you mentioned Radio head coz i was listening to muse and thought, I wouldnt mind getting some radiohead cd's.If that's so, then your first pick would be 'OK Computer', and then 'The Bends'. Anything Radiohead has put out after 'OK Computer' is just fuckin weird, with a certain degree of brilliance, but mostly weird. I personally don't get the hype everytime a Radiohead album comes out. It's been 7 years since I got 'Kid A' and I still don't get it. I remember once Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater saying that Muse took the musical direction that he wished Radiohead would have followed, and I couldn't agree more with that statement. |

I have no doubt to say that Muse is the best live band on earth right now. I've seen them 6 times already, and everytime I go it feels like the first. I love how Matt changes riffs and distorts guitar solos, so you don't feel like you're watching the same thing over and over again. I can't wait for that Wembley DVD to come out. Muse live shows are just beyond amazing, and if you don't believe me, see it for yourself. Check that killer riff at the end. link |

I can certainly share that opinion. However, keep in mind that today's Queen is something more like 1/2 Queen + Paul Rodgers. Queen's prime period with Freddie is long gone, but watching Muse live can certainly be reminiscent of the good ol' days of Queen. Muse is definitely going through their prime right now, and let's hope that they stay on the right track for quite a while. |

I think it's turning my fave band now (Queen was my fave since I was 14 or 15, now I'm 22). But both Queen and Muse are the best bands that ever existed to me. Is Muse the 21 st century's Queen?I can certainly share that opinion. The best thing would be see Freddie live in 1981, but I couldn't because I wasn't born :P Maybe they are not same big as Queen, but I enjoy them too much. I love them as I love Queen. God bless Muse and their music. |

You need a singer? You need a drummer and a guitarist and a bass player .... I guess, your keyboardist could get away with staying in the band, but everyone else should be replaced - and fast. I'm not kidding; have you considered perhaps just joining an existing band with good players, and writing material for them instead? Your existing line-up would have to be almost entirely replaced, it wouldn't really be the same band anymore... |

For fucks sake... I KNOW your band has 4 members. I've seen your Myspace, dude. But they are all as crappy as the singer that's on your songs. If you're looking to replace the singer, then technically you really should replace the drummer as well. He's absolutely terrible during your live video. I guess you could keep the bass player and the keyboardist; they're nothing special but they'll do. Your guitarist could probably use replacing as well. I'm not being 'silly'. I'm just being realistic; if you're going to replace one crappy member (the singer) then why not have a go at the rest of them? Answer my questions please?? Instead of copying-and-pasting the same response over and over again. Why don't you write something without 'talentless' 'garbage' 'queen' 'comedian' or 'freddie'? Try it, just for me. |

That's pretty harsh! :D One of the songs i adored immediately when i heard the 30 sec clips was Undisclosed Desires and it's still one of my faves. Overall the album is pretty awesome and miles better than Black Holes. Especially the symphony is very interesting. Matt said in an interview that he wanted that when you're listening to the album, you get the effect of flipping through your iPod. A randomized trip through the last 30 years in music and i think they succeeded. MK ULTRA and Unnatural Selection are classic Muse. Uprising is the 80's squished into one song. Undisclosed Desires is Muse's unofficial lovechild with Timbaland. United States of Eurasia Muse's answer to Queen's We Are The Champions. THERE CAN BE ONLY OOOONE!! hehehe...+ Collateral Damage which is both gorgeous and pointless on the tailend of Eurasia... Guiding Light is Invincible revisited..bet i'm the only one who expected Midge Ure after THAT intro. ;) Now I Belong To You is one peculiar track. It's all over the place and not what i expected when i heard the 30 sec clip. bla bla yada yada...i really hate talking about these things, just listen!!!! You won't be disappointed. (Except TM of course, who doesn't like listening to anything else but his own fartsounds at night) |

The show was great, minus a few flaws that could have made it better. Muse was in plain words, phenomenal. They truly owned that gigantic claw while they performed and truly showed that their performance is made for stadiums. I think that the only song from Muse that kinda bored me was 'Undisclosed Desires', but aside from that everything was superb. They opened with an instrumental version of 'America' from West Side Story. U2 put on a really good show as well. However, I can see why some U2 fans might find that stadium tours and massive stage sets don't work well with U2's music. There were some songs like 'Elevation', 'Vertigo', 'City of Blingding Lights', 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', and 'Where The Streets Have No Name' where the gigantic stage worked well as these are songs made for a massive sing along. Yet still, it doesn't seem to work that quite well with songs like 'One' or 'With or Without You' where you expect a closer and more intimate feel. |

Call me old fashioned but it's not a real life concert for me when half of the music (or more?) comes from tapes and there is not a single amp or loudspeaker on the stage. Muse do perform a great show and the music is fantastic but the live show is too polished and a little too "un-live" for my taste. I also did not like that you could not see the band from the balcony when the boxes went up - only when you have a front view you can see the band over the whole concert but many people have balcony seats with a side view on the stage. Overall it was a great concert but not something I would travel around Europe in order to see it. Muse "live" in Cologne November 16, 2009 I happened to see Muse perform two songs in the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC orchestra last week ("Children In Need") - I liked that much better, it was all completely live. Edit: there was additional tape in the RAH, too |

I do not know. I assume they have amps, just not on stage, they are somewhere else. Just not seeing the equipment takes away from the live feeling for me (only from habit). It looks like a TV show rather than a Rock concert. Plus all the additional taped music takes away from the live feeling. It was still a fantastic concert and I do not regret to have been there. |

Edit: there was additional tape in the RAH, too I know what you are getting at Barbara, and I certainly agree that it just feels like there's something wrong when they perform songs like "Exogenesis" or "United States of Eurasia" to partial background music, given that the originals were recorded by an actual orchestra. I personally would rather seem them hold on to those, and at some point do a portion of the tour with a full scale orchestra, which is something Muse has been talking about for quite a while. However, just because you don't see the amps doesn't mean that they are not there. Plus a lot of the background music is performed by Morgan Nichols on keyboards, who sort of hides in the background. I feel also a bit uneasy about those giant columns they are standing on. Although Burak mentioned that it's only a few times during the show when they are on top of them. Let's see if Burak comes around to give us his feed, given that he went to the show in Rotterdam. |

I agree with you, Barbara. I'm a huge Muse fan, but they have lost the "live" feeling they got in earlier years. If you see "Hullabaloo" (a DVD with a concert from 2001 in Paris) you'll realise what I mean. They were so wild in concerts back then. Now they polished their concerts, play the same fucking set list every night, dropped some of their very best songs (Space Dementia, Citizen Erased, Muscle Museum, Bliss and many more)and play most "pop crap" (Starlight, Feeling Good and the new singles). Maybe the several prizes they won with their live shows pushed them to make a more "market driven" show, but they have lost much of their rock live feeling. Sorry for my poor English. Cheers!! |
