I've just read something on queen archives:
"Rock legend Brian May hates his trademark curly hair." - Why?
"All this poodle crap p****s me off! The stupidity of people who say I have a perm." - He has it so why he hates ppl who say he has a perm? :-o
"I guess that people don't understand that some people are born with curly hair and some with straight." - Brian May's mother or father had curly hair? (and he has a natural curly hair..)
Thanks.
Roger Daltrey of The Who used to use a product called "Dippity Do" in order to straighten his hair in the early days of the band from 1963 - 1968.
It's entirely possible that the pictures of Brian with 1984 and Smile that show him with straight hair show him using a similar product.....
I have curly hair and so does my father. Both my father and I used Dippity Do to straighten our hair. I wear it short now, but if I let it grow out, I'll get the "puddle perm" thing going.

Indeed.
My hair gets curlier as it grows. When I used to have short hair, it looked straight. When I decided to grow it, the curls started to show up. My hair sometimes looks kinda wavy instead of curly on top of my head (while most of it is curly).
Brian's pics from the band 1984 show him with kinda short hair. Some pics from Queen's very early days show him with some wavy hair on top of his head, and curly from a certain point.
So I'm guessing it's roughly the same with his hair, it must've gotten curly as he grew it.
My hair had been really straight all my life until three years ago to now. It started to get wavy and then really curly and now i have it like Slash or Brian Mays hair. I think its because my dad has really straight hair and my mom has really curly hair.

I read somewhere that Brian tried to straighten his hair during that time because he was so embarrassed about his curly hair. It might be wrong, but I know I read it somewhere.
Maybe some days he just was frustrated with his hair. I have curly hair, and I know it's a pain in the ass. And mine's only mildly curly. Nothing compared to the luscious mop of Mr. May.
It's like how red heads hate being red heads because people always call them bloodnut, ginga, rusty, fanta pants, firecrotch, ginger ninja, carrot-top, e.t.c, e.t.c.
If people stopped calling him Poodle Perm, he wouldn't hate his hair so much
My hair gets more wavy as it grows. I get that from my mom.
I get frustrated, because there's always a strand that falls to my forehead, which I try not to let happen when I comb it to the side.
I am sure that it would be worse if I grew my hair to Brian's length...and my bandmates aren't helping by demanding that I *don't* get a haircut, because it's "part of the rock look" lol. :P

Isn't that fun if you have curly hair? People with curly hair I think are fewer than the straight ones. Anyway, does any of your friends have curly hair?

Haha, I understand now...thanks.

Haha, so did I. I thought he used to curl it ;) And so did many...I asked them and they would answer that.

I used to have straight hair, but it seemed to turn into wavy about 6-7 years ago...at that time, I hated it so much...it wasn't normal I thought. Then I had buzz cut many times 'cause I thought it would make the hair stop waving...but after 1-2 years, I thought it was okey, and I started to like it ;) (and kept it longer xD)

Any advice?
Get a perm?
It seems like the easiest way, saving you all the time you would spend trying to get those small curls by applying products and and styling it and all that crap.
Why'd you wanna look like Brian in the first place? You'd just get teased at school. Ha!

I'd rather do it in a more natural way. :P
And I already get teased simply for having long and messy hair anyway. And it's the last year too.
Do you all realise that the topic of this thread is Brians curly hair? I hope there are no young, new Queen fans looking at this who think that people are really this sad.
