As the story goes, Freddie passed away before he could finish the last verse so Brian took the initiative and finished off the song in Freddie's place. This must have been a difficult task when it came time to complete it but kudos to Dr. May for stepping up. A true friend indeed!!! |

I recall that it was Brian who wrote the music, and Freddie the lyrics. |

Oh my god, Queenzone users never stop to shock me. It's a Brian May song from 1991, sung by Freddie and Brian (last verse), it's on Made in heaven. |

BradJarre 01.01.2008 17:47 |
He was wheelchair bounded at that time i believe. But also in that book of jim says clearly,That 2 weeks before his death he completed a winters tale and he recorded the 4days after it mother love. |
Major Tom 01.01.2008 19:07 |
Don´t forget that he got "The show must go on" in one take. Increible achivement. A winters tale as well. So, I don´t think it´s impossible that he might have sung it two weeks prior his death. Though, I don´t really know. |
BradJarre 02.01.2008 05:53 |
DId he realy sang the show must go on in 1 take? How was it with the videoclips back then? Ive heard that he recordede all the video,s in 1 take. |
Sebastian 02.01.2008 06:19 |
'A Winter's Tale' wasn't done on one take, since the last verse was done separately (after the 'Mother Love' middle-eight) |
BradJarre 02.01.2008 06:47 |
What do you mean sebastian middle eight? When are you gonna think about an MIH section on your site? |
maxpower 02.01.2008 11:46 |
In a nutshell the term middle 8 is as follows, I'll keep it simple alas The Middle eight bars of music were used in many popular tunes to provide a break or ‘bridge’ between repetitions of the chorus and verses. In this way originality was introduced to the melody and this often became the most memorable part of the song So in Mother Love when the lyrics get to "I've walked too long in this lonely lane I've had enough of this same old game I'm a man of the world and they say I'm strong But my heart is heavy and my hope is gone Out in the city, in the cold world outside I don't want pity, just safe place to hide Mama please, let me back inside" When Freddie reached that incredible high note, hope it helps. ps who ever told me to go away, i wont & i stick by what i said |
Kate4Freddie8 03.01.2008 20:10 |
Yeh just thought I would mention that apparently when Freddie went up to sing in the studio he took shots of Vodka to relieve the pain and get him through it...so I'm told...could be wrong though. |
BradJarre 03.01.2008 20:16 |
That was during the IGSM shoot if im correct. And i know what you mean with that high note,So after that he recorded a winters tale. |
Dusta 03.01.2008 23:04 |
I don't know if we'll ever know, for certain, however, I have heard Brian mention, in interviews, that Freddie was recording right up until his demise. Don't recall him mentioning exactly WHAT he was recording, however, and, I'm just too damned tired at the moment to go back and look. I may have the interviews on some of my dvds, or, perhaps, saw an excerpt on youtube from one I DON'T have. And, of course, "right up until," can be relative.August R. wrote:innuendo1990 wrote: If everysource that i know Every wikipedia says 2weeks prior to his death(9 or 10november) and you say 22may wich one should we believe? This "Every wikipedia" doesn't sound too reliable source to me. As I said, I don't recall, specifically, but, surely, I can't be the only person to have heard this!
I will however, try and track down which interviews I heard this in.innuendo1990 wrote: where did you saw an excerpt? |

Show Must Go On was not necessarily a one-take song. Brian was talking specifically about the 'Face it with a grin' section, being a Freddie contribution even though the bulk of the lyrics were actually Brian's. I think that part maaaay have been ad-libbed in one take? That was the impression I got from Brian May...... anyway I'd be cautious about saying it was a one-take song. |

Kate4Freddie8 wrote: Yeh just thought I would mention that apparently when Freddie went up to sing in the studio he took shots of Vodka to relieve the pain and get him through it...so I'm told...could be wrong though.Yeah, exactly. Shot, shot. "Just get on with it!"Then he sung TSMGO in one take. Now that´s stenght. |

Sebastian wrote: 'A Winter's Tale' wasn't done on one take, since the last verse was done separately (after the 'Mother Love' middle-eight)No, sorry it might have sounded as I knew Winters tale was sung in one take aswell. No, you´re absolutley right. But still a great achivement, don´t you think? |

Of course. Great song, great vocal. |

I mean, the guy was there! I can´t seem to find it amongst hundreds and hundreds of posts there but I DO KNOW I´ve seen it there. How he came in to the studio, weak and tired, took a glass of vodka, grabbed the mic, sung it while still stitting in his chair, got up and went home. Like it was no big deal. One of the finest preformances ever. Doesn´t that sound like Freddie :) |

I mean, the guy was there! He was there too when they did My Fairy King, but he said it was on Queen II, he was there when they played Doin' All Right live dozens of times, yet he said he didn't remember it being done on stage; he was there when they did Master-Stroke on 'II' sessions at Trident, yet he said (to me) that it'd been part of Opera/Races sessions at Wessex; he was there when they played at the Rainbow in 1974 yet he put 1976 on his website (and corrected it one or two days later); he was there when John played bass on stage during Back Chat, yet he said (on his soapbox) that John played rhythm guitar on it (on stage); he was there when Fred bought a Steinway piano before the American NOTW tour and subsequently used it on stage for almost every concert until Knebworth, plus loads of recordings, yet he then said (Soapbox, September 2004) that Fred didn't use Steinway's (and I corrected him myself). So, an eye witness isn't always the most reliable source. Talk about epistemological problems about testimony... |

Major Tom 06.01.2008 10:04 |
Allright, I might be wrong. But I think I´ll stick by my story ´cause it would be way cooler if he DID sing it in one take... |
freddieparis 07.01.2008 15:30 |
It would be very interessant to know which period from 1991 Freddie and queen used to work on Mother Love, winter tales and you don't fool me...I think it was mainly done between January 1991 and June 1991. It's not because Freddie went back at London at the begining from november that he really recorded some days before. |
