I bought the DVD "rock montreal" and just a few days ago I had time to see it complete with comments by brian and roger. at the beginning of keep yourself alive, brian says that they make something in the studio about a song: sex show. Someone knows something about this?
I say, before anyone heard the song?
Or should we wait until the anthologies?
thanks.
Why did i click on this thread???
I wonder why...
Anyway...he meant the little riff you hear before KYA is Back Chat, it wasn't called Back Chat yet, it was just an idea they were toying with at that time.
Actually they were just making fun of Freddie when he says "my bad bad bad bad sex show" as part of his ad-libbing. Nothing about a different song or Back Chat.
I was extremeley surprised to find out that this was what Freddie actually said. I had a WWRY dvd, which is now lost, with subtitles included, and for this part it was something like: 'a fa-fa-fa-fa-faster John'. When you have the subtitles in front of you there is this tendency to 'adjust' the sounds so they would fit the subtitles. Was this on the other WWRY dvds? I'm very curious.

Hmmm could swear Brian said something about Back Chat...but i think he was playing the riff anyway, pretty obvious.

Yeah... I thought that too. I cannot check it because my dvd is 120 km away. Drat!

I think my WWRY is a later DVD. It's digitaly mastered put out by pioneer artists with pic or whole band on cover. It says "Fa-fa-faster John" as well, but it does sound like he says "sex show"
Brian does say in the Montreal DVD that Freddie was playing around with a song he had called "sex show". Maybe they played the "Back Chat" music (until then not a finished song) and he sang his ideas for "sex show"?

Good idea except Back Chat is a John Deacon composition.

Yeah, but its still very much a possibility that John had introduced the music, or at least the riff to the band, at that point without lyrics, and they had been jamming it.
Its interesting actually - its clearly the Back Chat riff thats being toyed about with, and I find it hard to believe that its a coincidence that their next album featured that riff - it must have been something of a work in progress, or idea they were messing with (None of this excludes John from being the main player who took the writing credit).
Also - I might suggest you can see something of a frame of mind Freddie was in about writing an overtly sexual or little bit seedy song - and then Body Language pops up on Hot Space. Maybe. hehe
