I was just thinking why didn't they get Glenn Hughes, he plays bass and can sing like a mother. Two birds with one stone. WHy the hell not ask him. I like Paul Rodgers and is excited but I would know we would get the vocal gymnastics from Glenn Hughes I expect on a Queen album. Paul is too by the books for me, even though he's very good but in a more by the numbers fashion.
Paul Rodgers wasn't a "random" choice. Queen weren't LOOKING for a singer. They just happened to have collaborated a few times (Hall of Fame 2004, plus several collaborations between Brian and Paul throughout the 90s and 00s) and they noticed they worked well together.
Besides, I think Queen needs a frontman, not just a singer. If they were gonna let someone play an instrument and sing at the same time, Brian and Roger could share the vocals, without a guest singer.
I don't know what by-the-books means, but Glenn Hughes would scream "gun-for-hire" singer, and would invite massive criticism, more than what Paul Rodgers has garnered.
Don't get me wrong: I love Glenn Hughes. I'm a big fan of the Hughes-Thrall album especially. If I were a Glenn Hughes fan, it would be strange to have him "join" Queen. If I were a Rodgers fan, I would know this was one of his many projects.
Glen Hughes is like Paul Rodgers' biggest fan.
He absolutely loves the man.
Glen would laugh at your 'by the book' description and most likely think you were clueless.
All these idiots who suggest Paul is a 'normal' singer, try singing like him and then record yourself. See just how easy it really is.

Because it would be the same with Glen as it is with Paul.People on this forum would be complaining "oh he's not as good as Freddie....blah blah blah"
Glen is a cracking singer but i'm glad they chose Paul.

Well since you suggested it, I should. Where's the check and the contract?

Well first of all dummy, I don't think I called him normal. I said by the books. You don't hear him screaming like Ian Gillan or radically changing his style or voice, you friggin' idiot. You can't put him in the same category as the aforementioned Ian Gillan or Robert Plant or Glenn Hughes. Did I say Paul Rodgers were bad or not good enough, no I didn't. So go fuck your dead grand daddy up his decomposed ass and die, thank ya kindly.

If screaming denotes great singing, like fuckheads like you always seem to believe, then you must sound like a songbird when you take it up the ass.
Screaming and changing voice have nothing to do with what makes a great singer, you fucktard.

I think all the vocalists I named are great singers. I didn't say screaming made someone a great singer I just implied that I livened up the songs and made things more interesting. I think thats at the heart of why some fans aren't thrilled about Queen plus Paul Rodgers because he doesn;'t give that extra dimension and you know what I say to those people? Shut the fuck up! Give the guy a chance because he is a very good vocalist and will give the songs a proper treatment, just without many frills. Is your brain capable of seeing things other than black and white? Just because he's a by the numbers singer, thats far from bad. Not having a strong voice at all and singing offkey like many of these contemprary so called singers is far, far worse.
