Why? Because we Democrats are idiots. Do you really think the jerk-offs who voted for Bush last time are ready to vote for a female? A mixed race dude? Sure, we will, but these narrow-minded conservatives need a safe candidate to swing them to our side. And we need them to swing over. So we're fucked. We're throwing it away. Mark my words. Four more years... it's a long time, but hey, maybe their choice will at least have a brain this time. |

Any campaign where Oprah isn't laughed off of the candidates stage is obviously fucking flawed to being with. |
Music Man 11.12.2007 05:12 |
Yeah, I'm sure every poll in existence is lying. The Republicans will win, despite the complete lack of objective evidence that suggests it. |

You may not like her, but you have to admit, Oprah holds one hell of an influence over a lot of people. |
AspiringPhilosophe 11.12.2007 08:41 |
Wow...the lack of any kind of logical connection here is truly outstanding. For the record, you are right about the conservatives not voting for a woman or a man of mixed race. But they wouldn't even vote for anyone other than a republican to begin with so you point in not valid. They are the minority of the republican party. The noisy minority, but the minority none the less. Do not commit the logical fallacy of division (where you apply individual characteristics to EVERY member of a group); not all republicans are extreme conservatives a la Anne Coulter. There are more democrats in the country than republicans by self-declaration, the biggest problem the democrats have is that their numbers are strong in the 18-35 age bracket, which is also the bracket that votes the least. If anyone needs to be "won over" to the democratic cause, it's swing voters who aren't loyal to either party (thus, their definition as a "swing" voter). |

Not that I have the attention span for intelligent political conversation, but I'll make this observation about 'voters', using my own country as an example. A televised debate between the two candidates in our last federal election features a real-time 'worm' at the screen bottom, that jumped up and down depending on peoples approval of what was being said by either candidate. And what do you know? The 'new' guy (as opposed to our leader of 11 years) consistently got much higher approval - EVEN WHEN HE HADN'T SAID ANYTHING YET. People voted him in overwhelmingly, for the simple reason that he wasn't the other guy. Voters are, by and large, complete morons. So, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of sheep-like voters followed whatever Oprah said. Fools, the lot of them... |

Oprah and Obama were in Columbia Sunday. The rally was going to be held indoors, but because Oprah was there they had it in the football stadium. I'd be willing to bet at least half of the people that turned up won't be voting. |
Mr.Jingles 11.12.2007 12:11 |
I personally was considering voting for Barack Obama, but after seeing Oprah freak show hailing him as "the one" as if he was fuckin' Neo liberating the human race from The Matrix, I'm strongly thinking otherwise. I have a lot of respect for Barack Obama, but Oprah's antics along with her double standard views and holier than thou attitude truly piss the shit out of me. |
Micrówave 11.12.2007 12:11 |
I bet more people showed up because they thought they might get something free from Oprah or a T-shirt. I guarantee you a few of them felt underneath their seat for a key to a new car or something!!! Maybe they could get that guy who wrote that book that turned out to be all lies to be their Secretary of State. |

I watched the 12 longest minutes of this day on YouTube: Oprah Winfrey campaigning for Obama without making a single politically relevant statement. Not once did she say: vote for Obama because he will introduce stem cell research or something - all she did was praising the guy like he was the Messiah. I wonder how people with more than 2 brain cells can stand such totally stupid and senseless campaigning. |

The prophet's song wrote: Ah well, if anything it's generated publicity. I'm sure Madonna is a political adept, with all the education she's been thru over the years. Are you kidding me??!!?? She also has Gennifer Flowers on board (source: CNN), so all these women who would #$@! to get ahead are backing Hilary. What does that tell me about Hilary? That she'd probably @#$! me too!!! Why can't we have a "hot" as a first lady or president? link |
Mr.Jingles 12.12.2007 15:07 |
If I was running for President and Madonna was endorsing me I'd tell her to fuck off by praising George W. Bush's ban on gay marriage. |

Chances of McCain winning seem slim---Not to mention that the Iowa Carcass Caucuses have already said Obama will win. I HOPE I'M WRONG |
Donna13 02.11.2008 16:00 |
I wouldn't underestimate the voters. I think most are more savvy than you would guess. Of course, the crowd always cheers at a rally, but I don't think they believe 100% of it. They are just trying to get everyone excited and up. I thought it was funny to see a little girl at a McCain rally (probably about age 7 or so) cheer when McCain was talking about a procedure to help people who otherwise would go through foreclosure. I'm sure that little girl had no idea why everyone was cheering, but she went along with the crowd. (Those people standing behind the candidates are kind of distracting, aren't they? Especially when they are rubbing their nose, looking around self consciously, giggling, etc.) Yes, there are dumb people out there but even dumb people know what they want (using their instincts and gut feelings). Ha. And there is complete equality with voting. That is what is fun about the election. I think we have two pretty good candidates, so I don't think there is any reason to be upset. Obama will be leaving his far left ideas behind (my guess) and McCain was never such a "good" Republican - so both I think would be capable of listening to the majority of moderate (not so crazy) Americans. And I think what we will see in terms of leadership in the presidency will be much better than the icky stuff of the campaigns. I guess I am pretty hopeful about that. Another interesting aspect to this election (which is why I can't wait for Tuesday) is that many people will not answer a poll truthfully, so there is no telling who will win each state. And apparently a 3 or 4 percent difference in the polls now is considered statistically too close to call. |

Obama's far left views? Are you by any chance out of your damn skull? Even his most progressive ideas are no more radical than a centrist politician in any European party that is either liberal or social-democrat would propose. As for McCain, I can see him re-starting the cold war much like Bush did, if only to deal with some old enmities (Russia, Vietnam, N. Korea, Cuba), which would be highly counter-productive. He likes to make it sound like Obama will walk up to every "evil emperor" and ask him what he'd like for Christmas, but serious discussions on a basis of American strength like Obama proposes are sure to be much more productive than McCain's own vision of staunch militarist rhetoric and provocation. |

Donna's reply (what is wrong with these quotes?): I think that you think if you state ideas forcefully enough, it might make them seem more real to you. Do you get that same feeling? Not that you are trying to convince others, but that you are trying to convince yourself? Ha. Sorry, I'm teasing you. Must be my pre-election excitement. Wooh. I get to go to the voting booth tomorrow. There is never a crowd where I vote. I wonder if tomorrow will be any different. I do like to vote and I'm not upset when my candidate doesn't win, because I'm just glad that everyone gets their own vote and I like the process. It is also a huge relief and fun after the long campaigns to finally get the results. |
