WoW !! Thanks, one more time pittrek !! It is a pleasure part of this community, and to see hard works in the pro Queen! Just a curious question: the version of Love of my life of the CD, VHS and DVD of GH1 is coming this show in Paris? |

Thank you. I am impressed both by your hard work and the generosity you show in sharing this! I hope it is OK to add a comment, though. This is NOT meant as criticism, just as advice to those of you that like to burn your downloaded files to CDs. Preamble: I chose to split track 17, turning "Love Of My Life" and "'39" into separate files. I used Adobe Audition to manually split the file, so I knew there was a great risk that I had created a sector boundary error, an SBE. Music files on a CD need to have a very precise length that match sector boundaries on the CD (I faintly remember that the split has to be done at 1/70th of a second, but I may be wrong, so feel free to correct me). If the files are of the wrong size and you burn them to a CD, small gaps and/or pops will appear between the tracks as the burning software adds what is missing for the tracks to comply with the CD standard. The SBEs will not matter if you only listen to your FLAC files on your computer, but if you burn the files and later on want to rip the CD in order to re-create the FLAC files, the gaps and pops will stay. Once created, you can't get rid of them (unless you manually edit the audio track, and then probably create new SBEs). So, you need to fix the SBEs before burning the files. When I analysed CD 1 of this download, I saw that all the files had SBEs, not only track 17/18 - I conclude that you, pittrek, like me, split the files manually. I now have software running that will fix the SBEs, so that it will be possible to burn "perfect" CDs from this lovely share. The software in use is really shntool, but there are GUIs to make life easier: If you are on Windows (before Vista), use Trader's Little Helper, TLH: link , if you are on a Mac, there's xACT: link For Windows, choose the "Audio File Details" tab in TLH, add the files and click "view details" - that will show you that you need to click the "Fix SBE(s)" button that will appear to the right. The rest is pretty self-explaining - just don't forget to uncheck the "Preview w/o making changes" button when you are ready to go. The program will take care of the rest for you. :) |

pittrek wrote:Ok... just to clarify, both Bonsoir Paris and Crazy In Paris are both from the Feb 28 show. Bonsoir Paris is a silver on the Gypsy Eye label, but Crazy In Paris is a home-made title. There is no silver from the March 1 show. Perhaps you could update the lineage... ?Double-U wrote: Great share! I personally keep my audio collection as flac files and burn as cddas only the concerts with both excellent performance AND sound quality. When I do a multi-source compilation, I save my work always as 2 big wav files, then manually split them into separate wav files, which I encode to flac files with VUPlayer. My next share will have correct SBEs, I promise :) |

Not that you give the impression that you wouldn't, pittrek, but during my lurking around here I have seen the sometimes overheated debates over FLAC... wouldn't want to get into a SBE debate in addition to that, lol! I actually usually keep the FLAcs on my computer, too, but I have so many friends that burn just about everything that I have learnt to make sure I don't introduce gaps, pops and clicks into the pool by leaving SBEs in the FLACs I share. (And, yes, I do think that you should stick to FLAC when sharing unofficial recordings, but I respect that the owners of the site have every right to decide which formats they want to see at their board. Most of all, I think it is sad that the issue causes flaming and fall-outs, and, frankly, might make some of us wary of participating at the board. Oh well.) |
