I don't think Paul sounds like Freddie as they have very different voices BUT my thought is he is absolutely on par with Freddie ability wise and therefore that makes them similiar in that respect. I agree with your assertion about Rodgers as a vocalist. They both have/had that power and versatility... that "got it" whatever you define that as. They could sing anything and they wouldn't sound out of their element because they sing so damn well. They are gentically unique... freaks (in a good way!) in that sense of the word. When you think about it, there are really only a handful of superlative singers, young or old in rock and roll. Paul and Freddie are in that class. They are simply on another level with their voices compared to the masses of other frontmen. I always find it interesting when I check out "best vocalist" lists by fans and they have people like Sabastian Bach, David Lee Roth, Vince Neil, Paul Stanley, Jon Bon Jovi, etc; ahead of guys like Freddie and Paul. That is just so mindless and unrealistic and I'd bet the farm that any one of those guys would tell you so too. By the way, love the new version of Say It's Not So. When it goes into the fast part it really soars and it definitely in my humble opinion captures some of the Queen spirit... the guitars and that unique "Queen" sound. Rock on boys! |

I don't wanna upset anyone but this forum has alot of blue eyed and extremely naive persons. For god sake put Innuendo on, and you'll see where queen left it, and then listen to the new "Queen" song. You KNOW what I mean. I have nothing against them touring and having fun with their fans, but I wish they could stop being in the spotlight like Deacon and just enjoy what i've done, and not spoil it with "Queen". Have a nice evening everyone, and feel free to disagree. |

Paul might not be as FAMOUS and iconic as Freddie was, and maybe he isn't as good as Freddie (I'd think twice before saying he isn't... They're different singers. Freddie was very likely a better showman, and he was better for Queen songs, but Paul Rodgers does an excellent job in his style of music), but he *IS* a first class singer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he sounds like a quite technical singer. Besides that, his voice actually sounds very good. And he has his very own style, his own "trademarks". And his ad libbing great! :) |

sorry Freddies gone he was great the best of his time, he died 16 years ago last concert with Queen 21 years ago I know I was there, its now Paul Rodgers who is great the best voice for Queen (or who ever you want to call them) John has retired Brian and Roger (2 of the 3 original menbers of Queen John was not) want to carry on (about time) only one thing to say WHAT A GREAT SONG BRING ON THE ALBUM AND TOUR. QUEEN in the 21st century RULES as they did in the later part of the 20th century |

To me, his voice doesn't sound like Freddie, and certainly not his style. However, I see an incredible similarity in respect to their output level. Both have a truly uncanny ability to belt out loud, thick vocals without cracking their voices up, but with a pure length of tone. They are like two different cars, but both containing engines that can overpower all the other cars. I think Queen is a naturally loud as hell band mainly due to the extreme volume necessary for Brian's guitar to achieve it's god-like sound. What Freddie had was a voice powerful enough to play along with the Red Special's sound. Paul Rodgers is apparently another who can take their voice to the necessary level it needs to be properly audible with BM. I had all these different ideas of who could potentially be a Queen vocalist after Freddie and to hell with all of it. Paul Rodgers is the one and only singer for that band unless aliens come to Earth and ressurect Mercury from the ashes. |

I do not agree that Paul Rodgers sucks. Paul Rodgers is a fine singer, and, one of my favorites, in fact. He does not, however, compare with Freddie, in my opionion, and, those that claim he does just make me dislike someone that I had previously admired. Is that rational? Hell no. I am aware of my own psychosis. Still, Paul is a fine singer, and, I imagine for two people as musically inclined as Brian and Roger, a necessary element, at this point. It still pains me to hear Paul Rodgers singing Queen songs previously sung by Freddie. It really does. However, I am happy that Paul's singing ability has made it possible for Brian and Roger to continue making music. |

In regards to Freddie and Paul I think it's safe to say that both have established their own places in the history of rock music. Let's be honest here... if it wasn't Paul Rodgers fronting this band it could be someone else who would be under the microscope and the target of being either praised or raked over the coals. On the other hand it may have been that Roger and Brian may NEVER have found the person that THEY felt was the proper choice for them to create quality music with. I think once Queen and Paul Rodgers put out a new album (and yes it is a risky endeavor and one that will either work or be panned)it will be easier for people to understand and accept the Queen AND Paul Rodgers angle and not see it so much as the band Queen carrying on without Freddie and John. |

Rodgers doesnt sound that creative... great voice though... no freddie. And about the wannabe's.... If you're a big artist, and you have an Idol, and you would want to pay your respects by covering their song.. why should that make you a wannabe? Singers like Robbie and George know their place in pop history and aren't waiting for anyone calling them wannabe's when they try to put the focus on their idol.. in the end it's about Freddie, not the person singing his song :) however... everyone's entitled to their opinion :) |
