...but the question remains: will it? Hello, fellow QueenZoners. It's me again, stepping out from the shadows of the online social spiral and into the real deal: Queen. For months you've seen me in the Personal forum, talking about anything (mainly music...and Rush). But after much brainstorming and reviewing of the current situations involving our remaining friends from Queen, there is one question that must be answered: Will Queen continue on? I have seen many things over the last several years: The return of Brian May and Roger Taylor to the stage (with Paul Rodgers, love him or hate him), a few excellent concert releases (Wembley '86, Milton Keynes '82, and now Montreal '81, all of them at near-perfect production qualities!), and the constant debate of whether or not the fine folks at Queen Productions (well, everyone except Greg Brooks is fine lol) will release something that the majority of people here ACTUALLY want, like Greatest Video Hits 3, or a Queen concert from the '70s. But even with all that hoopla, we still wonder what will become of Bri and Rog... This is the way I see it: Queen will continue to please fans with fun stuff from the past, but new Queen material, like concerts or even a new album, may be on the backburner for some time. Look at thge recent happening: Brian May has added to his career in astronomy with a book he co-wrote last year, his doctorate he received earlier this year, his recent appointment to chancellor at Liverpool's John Morres University. He's one busy guy outside of the music world. As for Roger...well, we haven't really heard much of him since his son Felix decided to venture into music. But believe you me, he's probably either hard at work...or doing absolutely nothing :p It does seem that Queen will not fade away or burn out (although it has been said it is better to burn out). Brian has recently hinted that their 1986 concert in Budapest will be the next big project. Plus, he has also hinted towards a possible return to the stage in the future. It seems Brian also has a lot on his plate inside of the music world, too. I'll get to the point: We all would love to see some new Queen material. We've all been clamoring for a new album ever since Brian and Roger starting playing again. But I doubt it will happen anytime soon. Things are getting quite hectic for May and Taylor at this point. Don't get me wrong: Queen will forever be a shining example of everything that is great about music: their albums are legendary, their style is inimitable, and their singer, the late great Freddie Mercury, can and will never be matched by anyone, past or present. Ever. But my whole point is the future of Queen: New stuff? I don't think so. Not for a little while. Old stuff? You betcha. But it'll be good stuff...I hope. So in essence, yes...the show WILL go on. One way, or another. -=Brian=- |

Yes,its all very well tarting up and rehashing old stuff like QRM/We Will Rock You and then putting it out. But, really, i think that Brian + Roger should have finished the album off first before they ventured into their own personal stuff. I dunno. What do the rest of you QZers think? Do you sometimes feel that by buying QRM that you're being ripped off, being as it was previously released. And by buying "Live At Budapest" same thing would be happening. My feeling is,if they have to release something they should release some seventies concerts.Something which has never been released before. If this has been posted before the i apologise.I am only saying how i feel. |

unfortantly, for bands and their members, the name is their publicity, they are milking enough out of the dead queen machine to make money by rehashing old material, like saving GHV3 for the last.the better off just to retire the band name and start band or just do guest/solo work |

I've been a "proper" fan since 1986 and I have to say that I've now got to the stage where I don't really give a monkeys about the Q&PR album anymore - they've taken too long over it and all that promotion they did with the tour is wasted. I think it's about time they stopped messing about with that bloody musical and started focusing on "Real" Queen again. For example, neither Brian nor Roger need to be glued to a sound studio to make surround versions of their albums so why aren't they being done? As usual Queen have started something and then just stopped. Since the release of NATO & The Game (NOT by Queen Productions I might add) surround mixes of albums have taken off like a rocket. Even Genesis (Genesis for gods sake) have made surround mixes of all their albums and what do we get: another version of NATO done by QPL which I personally think isn't as good a mix as the Future Entertainment version. It's almost as if the novelty has worn off and they're not interested anymore. Personally I blame Jim Beach. I understand that his attitude is one of not watering down the Queen legacy. Oh well, we can all console ourselves by buying another release of Greatest Hits instead of something new. |

Instead of Budapest 86, why not re-record songs or an Album's worth if there is enough material with demos where Freddie's vocals are recorded e.g.(Rock it Prime Jive), they could re-work the tracks, they could give the music a whole new lease of life. The best example so far was 'Heaven for Everyone', etc etc, this was a quite a success?? Who wants to hear Paul Rodgers??????? |
Pim Derks 22.11.2007 11:58 |
I'm sure Brian, Roger and Paul can write better songs than the Queencrap that still hasn't been used, like Robbery or Self Made Man. If there was anything really worthwhile in the archives they'd have used it on MIH. |
jcomber 22.11.2007 13:58 |
I admit most of the stuff on David Fuller's webpage is not really useable, I was refering to songs in the Queen Catalouge where Brian and Roger took lead vocals, for example would Freddie have done a vocal for e.g. Human Body or I'm I n Love With My Car. The Band/Public realised HOT SPACE onwards the best sounding vocal for all their records was Freddie's, whose beautiful tone and charasmatic sound and power covered all territories of the Queen Catalogue. I like the tone of Brian's voice but his voice is a bit weak compared to some of the complex vocals Freddie produced, while Roger's voice is alright for a backing singer, but not particularly my taste, a bit too husky or rough at the high end, I hate the screams also on some of the songs. |

wow...quite a discussion we got here. Once again I have been able to incite some serious debate...guess I still got it! lol Anyways, I guess the reason why it's hard for Queen to continue on to new frontiers is because there is so much that is holding the band back creatively. With all of these opportunities to rekindle classic moments in history (Montreal '81, Budapest '86), not to mention the fact that there ARE only two of the four members still active (Freddie, God rest his sould), it's gotta be tough to try to move forward with a new attitude. I mean, look at all of the legendary bands still performing. The Eagles, Rush, Rolling Stones...sure, they've all suffered a lot both in and out of the music world, but they either have all (or most) of their surviving members, or they have a lot less on their plates than Brian and Roger do. Rush just wrapped up their European leg of the Snakes & Arrows tour, Eagles just released a new album, Rolling Stones are...well, they're still The Stones. I don't know...it seems that it's easier for some bands to keep the musical flame going. Without Freddie, Queen's flame is pretty much gasping for oxygen...but it will not extinguish. Not for a long time! -=Brian=- |

With the whole talk about the possible budapest’86 DVD I wish that they would have made the Wembley DVD a DVD box set with... Live at Wembley Stadium and extras Live in Budapest '86 with extras Live at Knebworth '86 with extras (if there is a whole Knebworth show in the vaults) The Magic tour DVD box set then release On Fire and Rock Montreal and continue going backwards and see some 70's shows on DVD. |

Not because I would hate Paul Rodgers (who was in fact the highlight of the show!), but rather because they sounded just like any other cover band. They could make great new music one day, but I'm not "expecting" it any more than I'm expecting anything from any of the other bands I've never heard. :P |

I haven't much to add, but Queen, as it's been expressed, will never extinguish its fire. Yeah, the immortal Freddie Mercury is not with the band physically, but his spirit still lives on even if his voice is not present within a new Queen composition. Queen are ultimatly one of the most, if not the most, diverse and accomplished group of musicians. Brian May does not only stride in his musical capabilities, but his capabilities in being a scholar! With so much going on outside of the band it's hard for them to really focus on 'just' Queen. I give them a load of respect for being so creative and willing to go further into other labors of love. That being said, I don't mind waiting for more Queen material. I'm quite proud of their diversity in talent. |
carboengine 26.12.2007 15:44 |
I would like to see a two-disc dvd of Queen's best filmed or best video bootlegs. That way 99% of us would not be buying a version of what we already have. I wouldn't even care if the visuals were a bit grainy, and the sound wasn't 2007 quality. |
