I had just posted this over on Queenonline, but wanted to post this here too... simply cuz, I am just SO ANGRY!! ...... just looking for some pics, and I come across this??! took me by surprise! ............ I was just looking around his site, for Brian/Roger pics from the Foo gig... and I had NO idea he was such an asshole! Look what he said about the song '39, etc... and had posted emails from some people had sent in from the show?!! That was SO RUDE! This guy sounds like a real prick! maybe we can send him some emails?? ? Here's the link to his awful site, I must say.... link and here's what he had posted.... Here's an email from Pavel - I am not alone... Hey Ross, As someone who was in the audience at the Foos gig and leapt around like a mad dervish, I can safely agree that the Queen song was a dire choice and a waste of the special guests. Plus something was badly out of tune. Rest of the gig, though? Phenomenal. Cheers, Pavel And John Bionelli tells it like it is... Hey Brian, the 70's called. They want their hair back.Did I see some Foo Fighters pictures with Pat Smear in them? What was he doing there? Is he back in the band? 39 is terrible. Maybe Sheer Heart Attack or a more real tribute to Freddie they should have done Fairy Fella's Master -Stroke from the 2nd album. I was never a huge Queen fan. We had Cheap Trick. November 20 Photographed The Mars Volta and Serj Tankian together for an American magazine. It was put together by about twenty people. I kid you not - emails here, emails there, emails sent to Mars the way this was going. The very lovely Phoebe Sinclair (Warner Bros PR) was in charge, or seemed to think she was in charge. Phoebe gave me a lecture. 'Do you know The Mars Volta?' 'No, never heard of them.' 'Well, you're not to be rude or offensive, I don't want you upsetting artists, and treat Serj with respect.' Phoebe then gave me a long lecture on how important System Of A Down are. Apparently they'll be the new Led Zeppelin - who am I to argue while ogling the lovely Phoebe? It went quite well. I used Kazuyo as a chair and sat on her while shooting. Phoebe was most offended. 'You can't do that to a girl!' Phoebe, I can, and Kazuyo wouldn't understand an act of kindness, she would see it as a sign of weakness. I left safe in the knowledge that Phoebe had fallen for me. It must be my charm and my knowing how to treat a woman. Oh, and Serj, Omar and Cedric were easy. Wish more people were like them. Then again most people I shoot are okay - ish... Got sent this email. I don't dislike Queen but the song is dull and none of the twenty two thousand people in the crowd knew it. The crowd went mad when Brian and Roger walked on, then looked on with 'What is this?' Queen have great rock songs, this just isn't one of them... And he's posted what I wrote. Am I meant to be frightened? Did he post it to his mum - or his auntie perhaps? Dear Ross Halfin, I read your review on your website about the Foo gig on Nov. 17..... and I wanted to point out that The CLASSIC QUEEN song '39 is off the "A Night At The Opera" album. Not "News Of The World". and it would be very nice if you could give QUEEN a little more respect! (I'm not the only one who thinks this, as well.)I posted what you wrote from that day ...... Thanks! Jeff Has Jeff nothing better to do - like look at his stamp collection, or spot trains at Clapham, or maybe study astronomy? WTF???? IS THIS UGLY MAN OK?? IS HE HIGH??? |

I've tried reading this thread a few times, and I just don't get it. Are you upset because a famous - and rather good - photographer doesn't like the band you like? ...Really? edit: actually, I read it again. He likes Queen, but not '39. Call out the angry mob! Hand out the pitchforks! Such indignities in this world must be stopped! |

I don't know where I read this, I forget, but I REMEMBER some time, in the past that him and the Queen guys. well, they didn't really care for him much. and the same with this guy. I'm sorry, he just seems so mean, WOW! Not JUST the Queen factor. I really don't know him and his work much, but the looks of his pics, they aren't REALLY that great. IMO tho. Some people need to just be POLITE! Its not that hard. :) |

I know Ross through The Who and he's an incredibly talented, well-respected guy. He's a trusted friend of many a musician and has been in the business for years. He's as qualified as anyone to comment on Queen. And he's right too. "'39" *IS* boring compared to TYMD or NIH - if you read his full diary entry and read it in context you'll understand what he was getting at. |

Whatever his thoughts, they're his thoughts and he's entitled to them. He should have been aware that the odds of doing a rocker during the acoustic portion of the show wouldn't have made much sense though, and for the fans who didn't recognize it. not every concert experience is just greatest hits. |

Im quite pleased he wrote that and I hope Brian see's it. I have always hated the song! |

"O would some Power the gift to give us To see ourselves as others see us" that's obvious, you don't have to be "rude" to see that. :) and its true that he looks not "good". he fires, and I can't say anything about this guy?? Im rude when you start me, but this guy seems to be rude and a "smart" "person" A LOT. I can tell. WOW! and I gotta say, there's some sweet, nice, dedicated Queen fans on here! |

Queen1958, From this reply, I'm sure we will all agree with *YOU* that *YOU* seem to be an extremely highly intelligent human being and beyond reproach. You're definitely *NOT* an idiot, are you? *YOUR* opinion is all that matters and we should simply sit back and agree. Can you please post a picture of yourself somewhere so that we are able to decide for ourselves whether you "look not good"? |

Im not into myself, and IM RUDE EITHER! ;) it's just, you don't mess with the Queen guys, esc Brian... making "smart" remarks, etc.. and I don't like to see people who take up for Queen etc, get rude comments from a man, who seems TRULY not kind at all. seems to me, he has an ego, too. and I HATE that! that's all, and maybe wanting to get some feedback from Queen fans on here, and see what they thought, or see if they saw it like I did. I was WRONG. I know you must be a fan of this guy Benn, but Im sorry, he's rude, and all I was saying about "his looks' , he doesn't need to act like that! NO-ONE should act like that! ..... but hey, didn't mean to step on toes here. some of you guys need some loyalty! :) kisses! |
Lester Burnham 23.11.2007 17:14 |
There's plenty of loyalty here, but there's a fine line between loyalty and stepfordism, and you have stepped well over that line. I love Queen, as does everyone on this site, but I don't scour the Internet looking for anyone who might have an opinion against the band, and then scream bloody murder when a dissenting opinion is voiced. Not everyone has to like Queen. Then again, I get the impression that you didn't read all of Mr. Halfin's post, which stated that he DOES like Queen, but that '39' was a poor choice for the Foo's concert. AGAIN, HIS OPINION. He then went on to mention 'Tie Your Mother Down' and 'Now I'm Here' as songs that WOULD have been suitable. Notice he doesn't mention 'We Will Rock You' or 'We Are The Champions' or whatever, but two of the lesser known Queen songs in the grand scheme of their hits. What does that tell you? Next time someone says something bad about Queen, it would be a good idea for you to take a deep breath, turn off the computer, and go for a walk, because it's clear that, according to you, anyone who doesn't praise every recorded note the band put out in their history deserves a public execution. You'll probably find that that's not really the most healthy attitude to have, regardless of what band you like. |
Winter Land Man 23.11.2007 23:12 |
I don't like '39 much... not because Brian sang it though. I didn't like it when Freddie sang it either. Boring song. |
Benn 24.11.2007 09:45 |
Queen1958, re: >>Thank you so much!! you're so sweet! =) Oh, for heaven's sake! >>and YES, that's ALL that matters ;) :P Have another read of my post and take my remarks as sarcasm - you may change your mind. >>oh hun, Im young and gorgeous. ;) Really? >>JOKING! Oh, good - glad that's cleared up. >>Im not into myself, and IM RUDE EITHER! ;) it's just, you don't mess with the Queen guys, esc Brian... making "smart" remarks, etc.. Why not? Are you not a consumer of their product and entitled to the right to free speach? >>from a man, who seems TRULY not kind at all. And you can judge that from what you saw on Ross' diary post? You didn't even read the post fully, let alone have a look at anything else he's done. He does a great deal of work at The Who's Teenage Cancer Trust charity shows FOC - is that not *TRULY* kind? >>I know you must be a fan of this guy Benn, but Im sorry, he's rude, You have no idea what you're talking about at all, do you? Please do me a favour and go back to Ross' website and have a look at as much as you can and read as many entries as you can - then come back and tell us what you think of HIM. >>and all I was saying about "his looks' , he doesn't need to act like that! NO-ONE should act like that! ..... What time do they open the gates of your secure unit? Perhaps, if you ask nicely, they'll be a bit more careful in checking the patients out during the day. I'm sure they'll keep you in and occupied. |
