Maybe I'm reading too much into this (as I often do), but during Rio's performance of Bo Rhap, Freddie looks disappointed, almost sad, at the end. He definitely pauses after singing "nothing really matters" to see if the crowd would take it, but when they don't, he waves, the looks down at his piano and actually shakes his head a couple of times. Does it seem to anyone else like he was almost sad the crowd didn't take the final line from him, or am I imagining things (and maybe projecting my own disappointment with the crowd onto Freddie)?
I just took a look at the clip. I think he often shook his head in that way when he was at the piano. He did look out at the crowd near the end but didn't really wait too long for them to complete the last line anyway.
I think his reactions to the crowd were a little different from some performers. Some singers are quite sickly sweet and overly sentimental with the audience 'Oh my god, I love you guys' etc but Freddie neither patronised nor sucked up to them, that's probably why he was so popular. I'm sure he got a huge buzz with the participation in songs like LOML and Radio Ga Ga but he didn't necessarily let those emotions show.
