So I was at wal-mart tonight and surprisingly found a live Queen DVD "Live in Japan 1985." The sticker on the packaging said it was an import, on the back it was noted as being NTSC and region free.
I am assuming the company that released it is called MP, their logo is just "MP" inside a circle (or is it an oval?) The DVD cover is white with the Queen crest somewhat emerging from a red circle. The back lists a patent and copyright by masterplan licensed by Queen Film Ltd.
The DVD itself? Well the picture quality is about the level of a VHS tape, full screen and that annoying MP logo in the upper left hand of of the screen throughout the whole thing.
Perhaps this is a South American pirate as the words "Distribuido por GLD Distribuidora S.A." are in small print on the back?
Anyone with any info? I'd be surprised if Wal-Mart is selling pirates now.
I've got the DVD, and it isn't too bad. The quality isn't great, but it was a rare find indeed! Great concert too, not the best, but certainly not the worst.
As I wrote in an different thread:
Please stay away from Masterplan releases. I bought a few and they are all crap. They don't even use the best available sources for their DVD's, so my advice is: save your money...
yeah unfortatnly, this happenens,i remember there was a guns n roses one of them in chicago and the quality was same too, although thanks to modern technology and some software you can clean up the sound and video with nero!.
Yeah this even turned up here in Kansas at a Wal Mart a couple months ago. I was tempted as a collector, but since I already have the Japanese version with PCM, this would have been pointless.
I don't know the lineage, but I assumed it was either *the* UK version which came out awhile back with the same cover, since they often release theirs as NTSC now or some crappy pirate copy, as it sounds like it is.. I'm glad I passed.
The Japanese release, while somewhat lacking in fancy artwork is excellent quality both audio and video.
