I doubt the next release will be Hammersmith, although it would be nice for a change. They seem to be only releasing eighties concerts, and completely ignoring the seventies concerts. So, I hear you when you say we need a concert like Hammersmith on DVD! Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Budapest 86...
Brian said that during his speech at the premiere of QRM.
It would be nice to have that in better quality and with the correct speed, and complete...
But, yes, we all prefer a 70´s release... someday.
P.
Maybe I am being odd but I have noticed the concerts are being released in reverse chronological order:
- Live at Wembley (1986)
- Live at the Bowl (1982)
- Rock Montreal (1981)
OK so its not many but there could be a pattern emerging...
Actually, I also noticed the 'pattern' long ago.
I also think (and hope) it will be Hammy (unless they will release yet ANOTHER early eighties show from South America), also because Greg has been specifically searching for the audio from this show for the past period.
For some reason, Queen doesn't think they exist before 1982, even though their 70s shows were better. So I'll say Live at Wembley HD with ultra sound 2 disc special collector's Freddie Would Have Wanted It This Way Edition. The 2nd disc will include new interviews with Brian May and Roger Taylor on the day, as well as going in to the studio to watch Brian mess around with the mix.
Then after that dissapointment, Queen+Paul Rodgers will release their CD, tour for a few months and return with another live DVD of that tour.
Then Brian and Roger will happily announce the release of Budapest on DVD for the first time ever in history!!!!
On one hand I am happy with today's release. It is arguably the greatest Queen concert of all time, and I love having it not only released cd finally, but with Flash and The Hero it's finally a complete product.
On the other hand, look now at what concerts are available officially:
1. Live Killers(Jazz Tour)
2. Queen Rock Montreal(GH which pretty much means The Game plus Flash/The Hero and Under Pressure)
3. Queen On Fire at the Bowl(Hot Space)
4. Queen Live Magic(A Kind of Magic)
5. Queen Live at Wembley(A Kind of Magic tour again)
and out of print/once offical shows:
6. Queen: Live in Rio(The Works)
7. Queen: Live in Budapest(A Kind of Magic again)
There is absolutely ZERO commercial material from the 1st half of their touring career while the 2nd half has been given a virtually comprehensive availability of live material.
It's LONG past time for a concert release from the days when Liar, White Queen and In the Lap of the Gods Revisited were regular live gems played on stage. I'm sick and tired of concet releases by Queen that end with We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions as the encore.
I still maintain my suspicion and theory that Freddie's over-the-top leotard costumes are a primary blockade to the powers that be.
I vote for Earl's Court, Rainbow '74 and Houston '77 at the future releases.
Unfortunately I think it will be a few years before the next classic show as the new album will cover '08 and a likely live show from the upcoming 2nd PR tour will cover '09
