Axl Rose is known as the asshole of rock n' roll. He fights with almost anybody and he has also made some controversy with his "One In The Million" song wich is known as homophobic, rasistic and xenophobic song. Current line about homophobie: "Immigrants and faggots They make no sense to me They come to our country And think they'll do as they please Like start some mini Iran, Or spread some fuckin' disease They talk so many goddamn ways It's all Greek to me (...)" There were rumors that because of that Elton John stayed away from Axl on Freddie Mercury tribute concert. In this link you can see that Axl actually loves Queen and Freddie as well. link He also said that he has nothing against gay people. So I wonder how would Freddie react on whole thing and what do you generally think about Axl, is he an asshole or just missunderstood? Discuss. |

Wait a minute, subject is quite interesting! Come on people, discuss! Can't do this to me xD |

Like someone said in the Covers thread, Axl is talented, but he must be one of (if not THE) biggest arsehole in the history of rock music. Only a complete idiot would break up GNR. I've heard about that song, but I haven't actually heard it... As for Chinese Democracy, I don't think it'll be coming out for another century. :/ (There's your post. ;) ) |
Penetration_Guru 09.10.2007 12:25 |
1. it's not current, it's almost 20 years ago 2. it's not interesting, it's just a lyric. Son And Daughter isn't about having surgery to become hermaphrodite. Authors don't necessarily believe every word every character says. 3. you spelt the title wrong, it's "one in a million" |

Ms. Rebel 09.10.2007 15:55 |
Of course, I did watch FMTC. But that's what happen, before concert, I read somewhere that in backstage Elton told Axl I'm gay, okay, do you have problem with that....he was not pissed on him that much, but he totally didn't like that song. Yes I've spelt wrong, but I heard this song like once and few days ago I saw lyrics on the net (this subject isn't about spelling btw), so I just wanted to see what do you guys think about all this. And yes, this isn't nothing new, song is from like 88' or whatever. I agree with Alec :) I forgot to say, Elton did Bohemian Rhapsody in duet with Axl On FMTC, but that was after Axl had already confronted Elton John and told him all about how much of a fan he was. |
Penetration_Guru 09.10.2007 17:34 |
You know Elton later played voluntarily with GnR at an awards show? |
Ms. Rebel 09.10.2007 18:17 |
Yeah, they played November Rain at MTV awards...they were okay later. But I'm not talking about their relation after the whole thing, I though on period of time since 1988 to 1993.... |

Here's a very interesting article about 'One In A Million'. link A very similar situation happened when Skid Row lead singer Sebastian Bach was seen wearing a t-shirt labeled: "AIDS Kills Fag Dead", for which he was apologized a countless number of times. I also remember Sebastian Bach mentioning once that Freddie Mercury was perhaps the greatest frontman of all time. link |

A much better thread than 90% of the crap on Queenzone. Rose said once that he was working his way through a lot of anger and this was his way of doing it. So saying that the words werent really his (as someone did here) but are simply the perspective of a fictional character is a bit of a cop out. I wonder if Rose actually ever used this argument? People do stupid things when they are young, but then they (usually) grow up. Maybe this is what happened to Oral -sorry- Axl. |
Raf 10.10.2007 04:39 |
I think he is an asshole. Sometimes he has a point - like when he stops a concert to tell people off for throwing stuff at the band. If everybody did as Axl, maybe concerts would be less violent. I dunno. But in general, he's a fucking cunt. He ruined one of the best bands in the world. Not to mention the times when he randomly attacked fans or journalists. |

Mark Knopfler is an asshole.
He hates gays and Aids patients. One time he distanced from a group of fruitcakes.
Take this song of his for example:
Mark Knopfler wrote: The little faggot with the earing and the makeup Yeah buddy, that's his own hair The little faggot's got his own jet airplane The little faggot's he's a millionaire.Someone needs to do something about Mark Knopfler. He's been getting away with this for too many years and all you people want is your MTV. I mean look at them yo-yos, that's the way you do it. Discuss. Then play your guitar on the MTV. |
Ms. Rebel 10.10.2007 15:50 |
^Listen to me. This song is called Money For Nothing in wich Mark Knopfler has a role of a storyteller. So, he tells story about worker who is jelous on rock stars and so this worker says words that you just wrote. As a matter of fact Mark is one of the most tolerant people in show buisness. He' s not getting away with anything because this are not exactlly his words than words of an imagineary character. You just missunderstood the whole thing. You should aslo listen songs like Brothers In Arms and Private Investigations. Those are his words and they are very touching. |
Micrówave 10.10.2007 16:04 |
^OK, now listen to me. I gave you pretty much the same thing you did about Axl: A song lyric and a rumor or two. So how can you think my outrageous accusation is any less outrageous than yours? You're going off of what you saw on a video to determine that W. Rose is indeed anti-gay. On the contrary. He is totally pro-gay... if you know what I mean. So which Mark Knopfler tunes are "his words"? Money for Nothing No Brothers In Arms Yes Private Investigations Yes what about these: Sultans of Swing (1st album) Calling Elvis (On Every Street) Romeo had Juliet (Making Movies) Love Over Gold Darling Pretty (1st solo) What It Is (2nd solo: Sailing to Philadelphia) and then there's his title track to the movie Wag The Dog. Oh wait, I guess I know Mark much better than you. Never mind. I'll ask Guy Fletcher. |
Ms. Rebel 10.10.2007 16:19 |
^You are 100% right about lyrics in Money For Nothing. But in that song you can't tell that those lyrics are reflection of Mark's thoughts because character who says those words also mentions "I should have learned to play the guitar" in wich you can see that isn't Mark (who can play the guitar) than a fictional character who is just jelous about people like Mark or Freddie... In One In A Million is obvious that those words are exactlly Axl's. He even said that in an interview. But, he also says that people missunderstooded the song. So, that's why I'm asking topic question, Is Axl an asshole or just missunderstood? Other words, is he a liar? |
Mr.Jingles 10.10.2007 16:31 |
Axl is so pro gay that he now uses botox and has his hair done in dreadlocks. |

Oh wait, I guess I know Mark much better than you. Never mind. I'll ask Guy Fletcher.Look, Mark studied literature and that left big impact on his lyrics. Most of his songs are actually storytellings, so Romeo And Juliet is about ordinary young couple, What It Is is about folk people of Scottland, Sultans Of Swing is social observation of times when punk was popular while Calling Elvis is a little bit autobigraphycal because before he wrote it his cousin called him often but he was too busy like any other celebrity, so his cousin said to him "It's so hard to contact you, It's like I'm calling Elvis". So, Mark's songs ( both from Dire Straits and his solo career) are usually storytellings. Money For Nothing is just one of them. |

mystic_rhythms 11.10.2007 08:05 |
wow, i can't believe we moved from Axl Rose to Mark Knopfler. The two aren't even remotely similar in terms of ideas or talent (I'd have to give the latter to Knopfler) Mark has said it in many an interview that he wrote "Money For Nothing" from the perspective of pretty much an outsider looking in. The character in the song is frustrated by the people on "the MTV", hence the main lyric, "money for nothing and the chicks for free". (ironic, isn't it, that this very song recieved constant airplay on MTV?) It's just an example of his varying style of songwriting. You take a track like that and compare it to songs like "Brothers In Arms", "Calling Elvis", "Why Aye Man", or even some of his latest stuff like "Punish The Monkey" or "The Scaffolder's Wife", and you see that his ideas range from the simplest to the most complex. Sexual discrimination (or any discrimination, for that matter) does not exist with this man. He is quite conservative in his attitude towards others, and for that, I respect him. I also do like his latest album, Kill To Get Crimson. Any MK or Dire Straits fans should check it out. -=Brian=- |
Micrówave 11.10.2007 10:44 |
Ok, well maybe he just COULD be an asshole. I just thought it needed to be pointed out... you never know when you might run into Mark. Of course, my first question to Mark would be "Were you using a '59 Bassman ENTIRELY on the Sailing To Philadelphia album"? I thought his guitar never sounded better, and the trem seemed to be phased perfectly on every song. THEN I would offer him some fruitcake and see what he does. |
Ms. Rebel 11.10.2007 14:11 |
It's alright. It's good we had discussion about him too and cleared things out about his lyrics and other stuff. And one thing is true, you never know who can turn up as an asshole in the end =) |
