Hello everybody, Reading these lines, I think we can conclude two things about Queenzoners : The first is that nobody here wants to download Mp3 tracks, unless we talk about very rare demos, or things like that, but it remains the exception. So, it has already been said too numerous times, every Queenzoner has to foolow this rule. We could save some time instead of lapidating him with hard words and so on, the community could be more enjoyable this way. The second thing is that there are some Queenzoners (like me but I can see that I'm not the only one to feel the same) that can't use torrents, only downloading from servers. That's a thing that is repeated numerous times on the forums, we are quite a number to experience this frustration of not being able to get what everybody else can get. So I think Queenzone can't host these sort of big files on its server, but why not creating a sort section for Queenzoners on rapidshare or mediafire or that sort mediafire or that sort of website ? It would not be difficult to do, we just need someone who can use torrent to create a rapidshare account and upload its files. It is quite rapidly done, it is kept on the servers with unlimited space if I'm not wrong, and everybody has the opportunity to download as soon as the link to the files is given on Queenzone. I don't think it is necessary to create a new section for rapidshare files and keep this one for torrents, but please tell us what you think about it. This translation into rapidshare files is sometimes done by some Queenzoners, but not always, what I think is that we could generalize this and keep everybody happy instead of creating two groups of Queenzoners, the torrent-side and the rapdishare-side. I don't know if I'm wrong, please feel free to complete with your own opinion on what we could do or not in our sharing habits. This forum is also made for that ! Feel free to explain what is convenient or not with the torrents and with rapidshare-like links. We need your opinion on it. Have a nice day you all, Regards, Olivier, France. |

"The first is that nobody here wants to download Mp3 tracks" "there are some Queenzoners that can't use torrents, only downloading from servers" There are some Queenzoners who doesn't need in FLAC also and who can't download a couple of Gbs instead of a couple hundred of MBs - that's an old boring useless discussion. Some of the servers are not welcome with IPs from different countries (MegaUpload is very unfriendly towards the one big and large country), but I prefer RapidShare and agree with you on that point. |
YourValentine 04.10.2007 07:18 |
Can you explain why you cannot download BitTorrents? What exactly is the problem? |
Queenrockyou 04.10.2007 07:56 |
Hello YourValentine, Well, in my case it is a problem of using a computer which has been given to me by my boss for working at home, and which is blocked for I can't go on P2P websites etc... To protect the data on my computer. But this is my own case, I didn't want to be that selfish launching this post, I have already seen other people complaining about torrents nt working that good, or not being able to download this way, and so on. I wanted a larger discussion than my own problem, because I think (I am pretty sure) it can matter other people too, and get some people frustrated !!! Regards, Olivier, France. |

When you upload to massmirror, the file is uploaded simoutaneously to rapidshare and other sites: link link link link Cheers, Ogre- |

Rapidshare (or even megaupload): Worth paying for the advantage and convenience of downloading when you want and at a decent speed. Torrents: HATE (with a passion) spending days downloading a file that I could download in much quicker with rapidshare. As far as uploads are concerned, I understand why people prefer torrents: It's more convenient and less hassle. |
Queenrockyou 04.10.2007 12:37 |
OK, so there is an advantage I didn't know for the torrents, the convenient uploading. On the other side it seems that the downloading is much appreciated with rapidshare & co. So we have one positive point for the uploader, and one for the downloader. If we have ONE uploader and multiple downloaders, do we have to say that it's better if it's a little longer or more difficult for only ONE person to upload, and much more convenient for MULTIPLE downloaders, or do this way of thinking can lead to the fact that nobody would share anymore because it's too difficult to upload on mediafire and co ? Please complete my thoughts. It's only one single point of view, there are certainly other ones. Regards, Olivier, France. |

Bit-torrent was developed by Bram to get away from the problems of Newsgroup transfers(which is basically a primitive version of Rapidshare etc now. If your PC is configured & people play the game correctly, you will reach maximum speed that your ISP allows you. If connections are firewalled, capping your upload speed to gain more download speed,or router ports not forwarded properly, only then will you download at a snails pace. Major companies & i mean MAJOR use bit-torrent themselves now as it is the proven way to transfer files in the most efficient way. There is no hosting sites vs bit-torrent. I have yet to not download at over 500kbps,but then i'm configured correctly. Food for thought |

If used properly, torrents are much more convenient. All you have to do ist drag the torrent file into the client's window and leave it alone. Sometimes it's fast, sometimes not, always depends on the activity. An old torrent with a single seeder can be very slow, a lively new torrent will deliver the files with the maximum speed that your connection can handle. With a fileserver, you always have restrictions: file sizes, waiting periods etc. And you have to click several times to pass security queries or selections. And sometimes you even have to pay. The torrents here on Quenzone have two problems: the tracker is not the most reliable and the community consists mainly of leeches who shut down their connection when the download has finished. Compare it to DIME or TTD: Over there some torrents last for months or even years and are still alive – and fast! If only Queenzone could have a similar attitude ... |

The main problem with rapidshare that I've had is that the majority of the time it wont let me download what I want as it's says I've reached my limit for that hour, when I haven't even downloaded anything during the previous month. Also, it is a bit inconvient for large files as you have to complete the download or you'll lose it, and half to start again from scratch. With Torrent files, you can download a large file in stages, with what you've downloaded so far being saved. The best suggestion that I would have is that small files are shared via rapidshare and large files via Torrent. My tag line below shows my honest opinion though. |

Your PC is not configured correctly then.Firewall,router,whatever.If that's the case (and not my provider being an arse), where do I start to set it up correctly please? Thanks, |

I've been on both sides of this issue. I didn't have a full-time internet connection up until a couple of months ago. So, direct downloads were the only thing I could use, torrents use to take at least 3 weeks to download, I would only have access to the internet at wireless cafes or by stealing my neighbor's wireless (it was seldom in range for more than an hour a day) Now that I do have my own internet connection, torrents are the way to go, without a doubt. Simpler and more organized. I understand uploading to servers is much more difficult than making a torrent. However I do prefer when people upload to a server, then another member will make a torrent and then everyone is happy. But it rarely happens vice versa. |
Adam Baboolal 05.10.2007 11:07 |
Torrents can be great. I've had amazing speeds up to 1.57MB download! When people help seed, the system works very well. On Qz, while there have been dwindling numbers seeding, I've still been able to get good downloads here and there. Rapidshare... Where to start..? I used to love it, but then all the waiting while it told me I'd downloaded more than xxMB this hour, etc., got real old, fast. It's a horrible service that I do not wish to ever pay for. One off files, it's fine. More than one file and it gets annoying to deal with. And don't get me started on the deleted files after a set period of inactivity. The amount of times people are seen posting about re-uploading files because the links don't work anymore. Eugh... Mediafire is the next thing for me. You get a free account and no download limitations. Only a familiar 100MB upload file limit, but that's not much of a problem. And the uploads are always straight forward for me. I've only had one bad file on there, which was easy to re-up. Mediafire is the service I use to pass files to friends these days. Haven't managed that too well with other upload sites. Savefile is another service I've used from time to time. Not as attractive looking as Mediafire, but similarly useful with no real download limitations. Why do people still use Rapidshare with the long wait times between downloading more than one file at a time? I find it incredibly inconvenient to wait around for it to allow me back on. Adam. |
Queenrockyou 05.10.2007 17:44 |
Yes, you're right, waiting before downloading is quite a strange thing, only to force you to pay, which I eventually did on rapidshare. But once that done, the problem is solved, everything works fine. The thing is that this service should be free and that could be a great thing for all... utopia.... I don't really know about mediafire, it seems to be a far better service when you haven't paid for it, as said someone just before, it stays a convenient service. As far as the torrents are concerned, it seems a good choice too, also because it is the most usual way used on Queenzone. There are limitations, as someone as to keep is computer online to allow other Queenzoners to download too. Correct me if I'm wrong, as I said before, I can't use it so I can't check what I say. So, I think that the two categories should download the way they choose to. So the best thing would be to let the torent users go and share the files, and someone kind enough should place a mediafire or rapidshare link to the files when he has completed his own download. In my case, having a premium account, the files I would upload wouldn't be deleted, so the link would always stay available to anyone. And then, for someone who comes on Queenzone and discovers that the following weeks, while he was on holidays, some really great files were shared and he could not download them, there would still be a "second chance" link where he could get these files and enjoy as the other Queenzoners what is contained in them. Of course this is based on the kindness of the Queenzoners, and would maybe lead to some rules. For example, which Queenzoner would do that rapidshare links for the week or something, in order to be a service that xould stay over the time without frustrating anyone. The second question would be, what about the previous gigs and files that were already shared on torrents, and that are not available nowadays ? There are a lot of files that passed here, so it would be a long task trying to upload all these files on rapidshare or mediafire. For my part, I would be happy enough if I could do that for all the Queenzoners in my case, but I wasn't able to download via torrent, so I don't have the files. If I had them, I would be happy to create a sort of catalogue with the links for every gig or every demo or whatever that was shared here on Queenzone. But I could be accused of being selfish in wanting to do all by myself and have the files sent to me, and it would take a lot of time too. Then, I think it would be great to start being concerned by those two downloading ways, I'm more conscious now about the advantages of the torrents, but I stay aware that some of us (a minority maybe as it seems, but still some of us) can't benefit from the sharing system, nor they can offer interesting files here too. Do you think this project of having all the files shared using the two systems will stay an utopia or do the community of fans will be aware of the fact that some new Queenzoners or older Queenzoners can't enjoy the same things that the others ? Do someone has an idea of what could be done (easily or not) to keep everyone satisfied ? thanks a lot for your much appreciated thoughts. Kind Regards, Olivier, France. |
YourValentine 06.10.2007 04:58 |
David, you have to forward (=open) a port for your BitTorrent client in your router configuration. It's not too difficult but each router is of course different. You'll find it under NAT mapping. Here is a website with more detailed help link If it does not help google for "port forwarding" + your router and/or your BitTorrent client. Also, you must allow your BitTorrent client as an exception in your firewall and in the connection settings of the client (I think the clients have it automatically). Also open a port for the DC hub. My opinion about Rapidshare: it's a FREE service - how can people complain that the download is restricted? The servers must be paid for - who do you think should pay for them? it costs about 7 euros per month if you buy a 1 year account of rapidshare - or you wait for the downloads. Also, you cannot expect the servers to keep the files forever, server space must be paid for. The idea of this forum is to share files, therefore BitTorents are a good option: one user donates the concert, everybody helps to share it. However, it's a tolerant website and everybody can share via Rapidshare, massmirror, mediaupload or whatever in whichever format they choose. I don't understand why there are ALWAYS people complaining about format, chosen server or BitTorrent. We have the most generous and most patient sharers on this board, there should be a bit more gratitude. |
Queenrockyou 06.10.2007 05:40 |
Very true !! Queenzone is a really nice place for sharing Queen concerts and other tracks, people are very nice, and we can see very regularly new files opened for sharing. That's a fact nobody could deny. So there is no complaining about the format, just a reflexion on why everybody can't have access to it and what could be done, if something could be done. Thant thing apart, it is really true that Queenzoners (I mean not the ones who are only here to insult freely the others and that sort of things, that kind of guys are present on every forum on the net, so why not Queenzone ...? but it is another subject that is useless to talk about). So I think everybody is OK for Queenzone to continue working as it works now, torrents are a good thing for the torrents users, other ways of downloading are not that bad, their access is more easy than torrents it seems, but can be a problem too. For my own part, I'm not against torrents, I only couldn't try and use them, so could not have a clear opinion, I just based my first thoughts on what I could read in the posts here and there. So if the problem is not solved, what can we do ? Only continue the way it is ! Well, long life to the torrent system, hope it satisfies 99% of the Queenzoners and will continue to work well, it also depends on us, and hope for the rest of Queenzones that someone will be kind enough to sometimes make a link to rapidshare or mediafire. It is not an easy thing because the files have to be uploaded again, but it is a nice gesture towards everybody. Well, it's only theory !! Hope all this theory didn't have a boring effect to you, it surely did, but it permitted to Queenzoners to express themselves and was quite constructive, that's nice. Thanks a lot also that no "fuck" or "bastard" or other negative words came in this thread, that also is nice. Happy weekend to all Queenzoners ! Rock on. Olivier, France. |
YourValentine 06.10.2007 06:27 |
Olivier - it's okay to ask for rapidshare (or madiaupload etc) upload if you cannot use BitTorrent, usually someone is kind enough to upload the shared files. My post was not meant to discourage you. My experience is that polite requests are often answered. |
Queenrockyou 06.10.2007 10:22 |
Thank you, YourValentine, Don't worry, I'm not discouraged at all, Queenzone might , but once again I'm not talking for my own case, but for everyone in my case !! For my part, I will follow your advice and ask for rapidshare links when I'm interested in a download !! But I'm afraid I will have to ask for every concert, as for the moment I was not able to get a lot of things in a flac format !!! Well, hope everybody spends a good weekend enjoying sun, and of course Queenzone !!! Regards, Olivier, France. |

Ruth, u are a truly gentle human being, and i'm sure you lead a very happy life. I really do hope that more and more downloads get offered thru Mediafire, etc - for two reasons - 1) It will make Ruth happy. 2) I can't use torrents either. I thank all of you for all the great downloads that you offer. Regards, ParisNair |

I think I'm rather different... Nowadays I prefer downloading torrents, but if I have to upload anything, Rapidshare is the only possible way. With a 10gb/month traffic limit, if I tried to upload a DVD, I'd be in big trouble. I normally download 1 DVD a month, so that I can download it all, seed 1 complete copy ONLY and then use the traffic left (normally something between 1 and 3gb) to browse on websites, see stuff on YouTube, download mp3, share pics on MSN... |
Queenrockyou 13.10.2007 18:03 |
Downloading MP3 ???? Well, hope it's not queen music ! lol, but that's another debate.... Thanks anyway to gve us your opinion, we all know it can be precious ideas to us !! I hope more Queenzoners would like to give their opinions, be they torrent defenders or mediafire & rapidshare users... or both !!! Olivier. |
