Hello all,
I have recentley got my hand on Adobe Audition, and want to do some remixes on some Queen songs. Then, an idea came into my head, I've always loved both versions of TMLWKY, so it would be good to try and mix a duet of Brian and Freddie. I've done a basic skeleton of what I want, but I am having problem with timing and isolating tracks. Brian's version uses piano and the Queen version uses a synth, so I need to isolate the tracks from Brian's version so I can have just piano. The other problem is timing, the choruses are sung slightly differently, and I need to make the chorus in time. For those of you who have used the program, all help is appreciated.
Thanks,
M.H

That's the link to the fan mix forum here, it's a lively crew :)
I highly encourage you to read the sticky thread in that forum, plus there are bound to be others there that have used Adobe (I use Audacity myself.)
I'll let you know up front that others have kinda done what you're talking about, but it's always interesting to get a new angle.
Please join us over at the remix forum!
Nice to see you want to actually "create" a mix of the two rather than just chuck them together and go between them! There have been plenty made that do just that.
But seriously, the only guidance I can give is this... Audition can be used to sometimes expose vocals and other instruments in a mixed track. Very cool and very useful for creating mixes. DO NOT EXPECT IT TO ISOLATE THEM COMPLETELY.
Also, I believe Brian's version of TMLWKY has an instrumental version. And maybe, just maybe, a piano only version. Not sure about that last one.
Anyway, hope it all goes well.
Adam.
First of all, thank you for replying and sending me in the right direction.
I have a question however, where would I find and acoustic or just piano version of the song by Brian on the net?
I haven't actually heard anybody else do a mix yet, and I don't want to until I've done mine, so I can try and make it as unique as possible without being influenced. But, when I have finished I will get some of those already done and see if I have to change it.
I'll post in the right forum now =)
Thanks again guys,
M.H
Thats one mix I've thought of doing, but as you say, the difficulty is the piano/synth difference.
I had the idea of starting off with the Brian intro but with some oooh's mixed in from Freddie (possibly from You Take My Breath Away?). Then the usual Brian first verse, Freddie second, little flourish from the start of the acoustic solo but the Red Special takes over. Not sure about the end though, whether to have the two or not and then unsure about the ending.
If I remember rightly, the piano version was on a mispressed Hollywood Records release (maybe the single?) so sadly can't be shared here as it is official.
I did have it ages ago but lost it due to a computer crash and have never been able to get it back.
If you could split Freddie's voice from the Queen version using Audition, that would be great! Although, I've always thought the Queen guitar solo would be nice on there too instead of the Brian acoustic one and that could pose a problem!
And then theres the ending which is different too!
