I came across this interesting question while watching a special on World War 2 with my Dad on PBS.... When a man was drafted into the war, I'm sure everyone knows this already, but he was asked if he liked girls. If he said he was gay, he wouldn't be allowed to go overseas and serve. If he was straight, he'd almost certainly be sent to Asia or Europe to fight sometime in the near future. So I wondered... what would people these days do? If you were drafted to fight in World War 2, would you say you were gay just to get out of what could very possibly get you killed? Or would you decide that fighting for your country was more important? I cannot really decide... Saying you're gay if you're not seems selfish. Even saying you're gay when you really are seems selfish. Ah, I was wondering what others would do; Doesn't have to be just guys. Girls should give their opinion as well. :o |

I hear Jimi Hendrix did something like that. Said he started to fantasise about his fellow soldiers. Got sent home. |

^ That's what John Densmore from The Doors did. XDDDDD Even if I wasn't a gay man, I'd say I was and get the hell out of there. XD I think it'd be more selfish to avoid saying so and end up a casualty... |
deleted user 23.09.2007 22:50 |
^I'd do that too. XD |

And with high chances of being killed. I don't think I owe my country any kind of "loyalty". If I ever owe anyone loyalty, it would be my friends, wife, kids... And if you ask my friends and my girlfriend right now what they think of it, I'm pretty sure most (all?) of them will say they wouldn't be happy if I was sent to a brutal war like the WWII. Anyway, judging by my looks and actions, I doubt they'd believe I'm not gay anyway. ;D |

How ironic! - this display of manly pride and power from our fellow male zoners! :P I understand the girls' point of view, but you guys? This just goes to show that modern tolerance does work its magic. On the other hand, if you were living during WW II and having the mentality of those days, you'd go live in the trenches for the rest of your lives, than risk your reputation and state you were gay. But then again I may be wrong... |
deleted user 24.09.2007 15:53 |
Hm....I think I'd say I was Gay :P |

The simple solution to preserve both your reputation and your life is to tell the military you are gay, but to tell everyone else how badly you fooled those moronic military suits. |

Ahhh...pussies... im not a guy so maybe im wrong BUT i think a] being straight and saying you're gay just to get away seems the lowest thing b] being gay and saying it just to get away with its again damn low and all wrong heck, its not something relevant for a war, gay or not; what is it that one can do and the other can't? id definetly go to war, just knowing others are there and they can die while im running away from it, wouldnt make me happy with myself.... but that's just me...... |

If a whole nation refuses to fight in a war, what would the government do? Arrest everybody? I'm sorry, I'd rather be "safe" in jail than be sent to the war. If we're all living in "free" countries, why do we have to risk our lives when sometimes we don't even agree with our country's arguments to justify the war...? |

Nah, i really meant what i wrote up there and to Raf...... sorry, but i think you're totally wrong why? cause 1 - i HONESTLY doubt a whole country would refuse to fight and 2 - i never meant they should MAKE people go to war, but those who wouldn't.... let's just say i would not think the best of them.. and dont get me wrong, im 100% against wars, but if needed, they could count on me..... .....and thats all i have to say about it *breaths now* |

Besides, you said it yourself... With the PRETEXT that they are for my own safety and interest... See the Iraq war, for example. How many American soldiers have been killed until now, and how many civil Americans were killed in their own territory by Iraqis? That war definitely hasn't improved "safety" in America. And we can't forget the attacks in Madrid and London could have never happened if those countries hadn't joined the war.<font color="lime">Raf840 wrote: I'm sorry, I'd rather be "safe" in jail than be sent to the war.Haha! My wife and children mean more to me than "my people". Why should I die and leave my wife and children crying at home to save a bunch of idiots whose lives I don't give a fuck for? --- I'm sorry, but you all can make a very low profile of me if you wish, but I really refuse to be in a war. Maybe it's not likely that a whole country would follow me, but hey, I think people like me are growing in number. Each country has a professional army. People who get paid to defend the country. If the government wants a war, fine, send them. If they all die, the war is lost, period. If there are civil people who want to die for their countries, good, but not ALL civil people are like that. |

what would you do... if my heart was torn in two More than words to show you feel That your love for me is real What would you say if I took those words away Then you couldn't make things new Just by saying I love you More than words Now I've tried to talk to you and make you understand All you have to do is close your eyes And just reach out your hands and touch me Hold me close don't ever let me go More than words is all I ever needed you to show Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me Cos I'd already know What would you do if my heart was torn in two More than words to show you feel That your love for me is real What would you say if I took those words away Then you couldn't make things new Just by saying I love you ='( I love that song |
