Just seen on the official Queen site what the mega exciting bonus is gonna be on Queen Rock Montreal - you can learn to play Love Of My Life on guitar.
Its using this new site called Now Play It.com where you can buy videos which teach you to play songs on the geetar. Only just heard about it so I thought I'd take a look and it got me thinking.
Some songs are taught by the actual band members (similar to StarLicks) whilst others (including Queen) are just chords on screen over the music video.
The latter reminds me very much of the programme which I used to learn to play the guitar in the first place - the Queen Greatest Hits Interactive Songbook. This package was endorced by Brian too and was great for learning basic chords and the chord structures to the songs. I managed to learn to play CLTCL and FBG, but as I progressed became frustrated that it didn't teach you solos.
So to learn these solos I turned to the free guitar tab sites on the net which, I'm sure we'll all agree, are a great help in learning songs. However, I remember a while back the music monsters were looking for a way to shut these sites down in a similar vain as they were with lyric sites giving the usual b.s. about breaching copyrights. They said that there would be legal and paid (what a suprise!) alternative offered.
I'm now wondering whether sites like this are now the alternative. I must admit, it is kinda neat for the actual band member to walk you through how to play the track, but I feel that the same limitations are gonna be felt as the Interactive Songbook and maybe Starlicks.
Just how indepth will they go? Will it just be chords or will they start to show you how to play solos too?
Ultimately, it would be cool if Brian could actually get involved with the teaching of these songs. He said a while back that he wished to do an updated Star Licks project, well surely this is it?!
Anyone got any other thoughts?
