Recorded in studio
New York
5:11 a. m. here on Cape Cod
The hairs on my arm
They stood up
I'm with my wife
Thinking 'bout you
The mother load of everything
I'm no New Yorker true
I'm remembering two friends
Gone now never forgotten
Their spirits in you in you them
New York
I'm coming to more than pay my respects
If I am to be anywhere
It's to be more than just alive with the best
New York
Now please tell Gustav Mahler society I'm on my way
Something 'bout pride of me knowing
To tell them about this Mahler today
Yankees, you're the number two team
Red Sox hat coming with me
Polarity like a friendly clash
No ordinary scene
Oh but that's a distant present future fact
But to tell you the truth
With all the noise from the city square
From the subway train rolling across the bridge
To the cars jammed for miles everywhere
The steam rising from the cellars up the stairs into the city air
And clothes strung out from wall to wall
In the sense of deepest respect and love New York
Soon I am knocking at your door
I'm no New Yorker, I'm a Cape Codder man
But if not for New Yorkers, there'd be no spirit
Like any other in this man
New York
