I personally thought "The Call" was excellent at the Mandela concert. The worst song ever by Mr May was co written with his lovely wife Anita Dobson, it featured on Anita's LP Talking Of Love. The song in question is "Funny Old Life A'int It". Not only is this awful but I would go as far as to say it's one of THE worst records of all time, Brian your my hero but what on earth possessed you to record this. Has anyone else had the misfortune of hearing this song? |

For what it's worth, my least favorite song by each member: Roger- Don't Lose Your Head John- Rain Must Fall Freddie- The Miracle (the fact the Brian loves it makes me try to like it more and more, and it is growing slowly on me) Brian- The Call (I wanted to include a "Queen proper" Brian song, but I honestly don't dislike any of his pre-1992 output) |

Cheers, Ogre-Well Said Arnaldo, I don't think Delilah's one of Fred's best songs lyricaly, is it. we all know he's singing about his cat (LOL) & the guys will have humoured him, with him dying and all, but be honest, if Freddie wasn't dying at the time, and say it was pre- "The Miracle" I'm sure the guys would have said "Fuck off Fred, you're not putting that crap on the Album, take out the "Meows" and we'll think about it." Also, the song is credited to Queen. do you really think, Brian, John and Roger would have wanted to be credited as Co writers of the song if Freddie wasn't dying. I think not. Somebody already mentioned that the song would have been better off as a non album "B- side" I think so too. |

Some bands can do 'politics' because they have credibility. Queen were (in fact, are) a band of questionable politics who spend most of their time chasing dollars. Apart from the fact that Brian May is embarrassing when he starts his shouting, and ignoring the dreadful word structure in the song (it has, what should always be known as 'a hint of Roger' about it) I just don't think a band that spent their entire career singing about nonsense can all of sudden start the 'U2' preaching thing and not look stupid. If Brian May wants to do it on his own, fine. But the whole point of Queen for me was that it was escapism - daft nonsense, silly lyrics, dodgy rhymes (the 'hint of Roger' I was talking about) and great great music. This 'change' in their purpose sits uneasily next to the cash generator that is Queen Productions / We Will Fleece You / QPR. |

Well in a 30 year career when they were, at one time, the biggest band on the planet why did they wait until their star waned before they started telling us all what to do? They had to be persuaded into doing Live Aid even. The phrase 'jumping on the bandwagon' springs to mind (and the fact that Brian May would turn up at the opening of a fridge). |

'The Call', I'm afraid to say, is probably Queen's worst song. It's just too strong and the lyrics are cheesy. I respect the meaning of the song, because it does have purpose, but otherwise it's a poor composition. I used to think Fun It was their worst song, until of course I found myself tapping my foot to it the other day! And perhaps I was dancing just a little bit. |

I just think it's a bit rubbish really - I think the lyrics are poor and the message isn't terribly relevant or interestingly communicated. I forgot She Makes Me as well, which isn't actually that rubbish but it takes about 50 listens before you start to like it. I think Brian's the most consistently excellent composer in Queen's long and colourful history, but I don't think The Call will go down in history as one of his better efforts. Leaving Home ain't easy on the other hand, just smacks of genius from start to finish. |
