Is it just me or does anyone else think that(and this might sound a little morbid) Freddie´s voice got more powerful, thicker and, in my opinion, stronger during let say the recording of "Innuendo". I mean, just "hitman" and the roumor/fact that he recorded "Show must go on" in one take, his first. "Dont try so hard" is a great example that he still has his falsetto in there...Just came to think of this. I mean, he was in fact dying.

I believe his voice was "getting better" after he quite smoking.

Yes I agree. As he got sick, he did leave the party life behind and thius quit smoking ect ect and from this his voice did sound more sharp than previous albums.
How ever! and I am being serious, a persons body frame and tourso can effect the voice. Opera singers of larger build, (fatter) usally sing better. Paverotti (pardon the spelling) was noted as saying he feel's he sings better with the more weight he puts on as he gets older. Now as for Freddie, he body mass was more in the size of the younger Fred in his later years as he was becoming more ill, but none the less, the voice he projected and passion behind it in the later years, taking all the above in to concideration did change ans yes, did sound more powerfull.
This subject has been discussed several times to varying degrees.
Amazing what you can find if you use the Google search button at the top of QZ's homepage.

That is the most accurate explanation on this thread. I agree with you for the most part.
However, I'd like to add that because of his lack in touring, in fact there was no touring since 1986, Freddie Mercury was able to relax himself vocally which in effect helped improve his singing abilities. Oh, and just for interest and discussion, here is something Freddie said a while back regarding his 'Mr. Bad Guy' album:
"I was pleased with the album. I was also pleased with my voice. I like it husky. It's all the smoking. That's why I smoke: to get that husky voice."

you what we call a party pooper. Who cares if its been asked before. For fuck sake, dont you have anything better to do that pick up other peoples faults.... Why dont you look at your self for once.
Err, You're making quite a habit of this aren't you? haven't you anything better to do than hurl abuse every time i make a post?
I was just answering the guys question by directing him to 3 threads where the same question had been asked and answered. I really don't see why i deserve even MORE of your verbal diarrhoea.
Ok, smoker or non smoker I do think that hitting "Show must go on in" one take is absolutly amazing for a guy that´s:
A. Almost 45 years of age.
B. Deteriorating.
C. Working so hard he can to leave as much stuff to the other guys as possible.
I mean, take one young, healthy, rested guy and put him up to sing this song..It will NEVER EVER sound as good as Freddie.

what a load of crap
Sorry that Costa has a poor education system. But when you happen to study "voice" and take "voice classes" for a year or so, then I will take note of what you said, but untill then, take your pessant ass home to yo mumma and eat dirt like the rest of you pigs do.
azzadude Since you nit pick at everthing people say, you can have a taste of your own medicine.
You say that you had had voice lessons for "a year or so" WOW. Apparently not long enough. Being heavier doesn't necessarily make a better singer as you pointed out. it can have a very negative effect on singing. as you gain more weight it can impare your ability to fully expand you diaphragm meaning you when you try to sing high notes, they are not properly supported, so they go on your throat (and if you've had relevant voice training you will know that this is BAD) eventually your voice will become tried from this and on the high note your voice will crack. if this problem isn't resolved it can then lead to nodule formation. A living example of this is the original singer from Foreigner, Lou Gramm. he gained a lot of weight after the op to remove his brain tumor and has often spoken out about the negative effect it had on his singing voice.
