According to High Def Digest, Queen Rocks Montreal is being released on HD-DVD and Blu-ray in November. It will also release 7 songs in full from Queen's Live Aid performance.
One thing I found odd though is that it is being released by Eagle Rock Entertainment. I thought Queen recently acquired the rights to the Montreal show and that is why it was being re-released by them soon.
Here is the link to the story: link
The live aid portion will not be in hi-def. The Montreal show was filmed on 35mm and, if the source material is good, and care taken with the transfer, the show should look very good indeed. I will be getting this on hd for sure.
Boo for HD DVD. YAY for Blu-Ray :D
I TOLD ya guys for a long time that this release would most likely end up on Blu-Ray, one way or another. But again you all ridiculed me :P
Anyways, they mentioned the video will be in 1080p (I assume in 24fps since it's film).
But no mention of which video or audio codecs will be used.
Let's hope for God's sake that the audio will include at lease one LOSSLESS track (eg PCM, DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD), and to a lesser extent, the video being MPEG-4 AVC (aka h.264) instead of MPEG-2, esp if the BD release is a single layer 25GB release (though 50GB would be more suitable, esp if they are to include the Live Aid set as a standard-def bonus)

In a way, yes. But keep in mind I believe Queen enlisted the help of ERE to negotiate the transfer of the rights for this release (video, audio material et al) from the former owners (Pioneer I believe) to Queen Productions and whoever else. Obviously EMI must have not been up to that job, or something. Oh well, yet more new stuff to speculate for years to come as the truth about old popular rumours now come to light.
Here's hoping that Eagle Rock Entertainment give the film a 5 star transfer treatment.
The 2001 DVD's looked *awesome*, esp. compared to other official Queen releases, so let's hope Queen don't let this release get shafted in terms of quality.
Btw. could they have *not* designed a better looking front cover? It just screams BOOTLEG :P
