For God's sake Mr. Brooks what's going on over at Queen Productions?! Is there any PRODUCING going on?! Is that SERIOUSLY going to be the album cover for "Queen Rock Montreal"?! I'm a die hard fan and am wondering what's up with the horrible covers on the latest releases such as with "Return Of The Champions"?! It's so attrocious that I won't even be buying this product...so how are you all going to get the public to buy it?! I mean seriously?! Seriously there must be a different cover going to be used for "Rock Montreal". Are there really no creative ideas for packaging, artwork, concept, or design? Why don't you all just put a big penis on it and call it "We Like Cock."?! I might as well gurgle my own shit. |
Lester Burnham 03.08.2007 11:33 |
Er, last two sentences notwithstanding, I agree, though Greg has absolutely no say over what goes into the projects, so he's the wrong fella to ask. Might as well shoot an email off to Brian. |
AlexRocks 03.08.2007 11:38 |
Hopefully he is in contact with SOMEONE related to Queen to get the word out. I mean REALLY! Tell me this. Queen are now reunited and making music again and are touring. They have the huge issue of convincing the public that they were not Freddie Mercury's back up solo band as so many percieved them to be. So the question is...what's with Brian May and Roger Taylor seeming like they want nothing to do with these products being release?! Again the other d.v.d. covers are great. What's wrong with a conceptual cover?! I have ten dollars should we start a fund for them? |
Another Roger (re) 03.08.2007 12:16 |
I suggest that we bomb Brian May with e-mails. Then he might come to his senses and do something to change the cover. |
Michael Allred 03.08.2007 13:07 |
There are FAR bigger problems with QP than the quality of the DVD covers. |
Hayek Eva 03.08.2007 17:11 |
They have no more a Freddie like the designer. :-( |
PieterMC 03.08.2007 17:22 |
How about a picture of an ass taking a crap on a bunch of Queen fans? |

Michael Allred wrote: There are FAR bigger problems with QP than the quality of the DVD covers.Eh...I don't know, that's a really, really bad cover. How embarrassing that people who don't know who Queen is would see that in a store. (Though I doubt that's really the cover.) |

Regarding the artwork for Montreal DVD... Alex and others... let me say this. I too was surprised by it. It is not remotely what I expected. But... there is only one designer for Queen artwork and that isn't me. It is isn't Justin or Kris or Greg, and you cannot assume therefore that everyone at QPL must naturally love every cover that's produced. That is presumptuous and not logical. I think The Miracle LP cover is magnificent and one of the best album covers of all time. It is a wonderfully original and creative and innovative and impactive cover. I love it. But I do not love every cover on Queen products. Certain covers/artwork I have seen I personally think look like a bootleg product but that's just my opinion. Who the hell am I to question those things? I am only the archivist. Am I consulted about artwork??? Am I asked if I think it's great or not??? No. Never. I am ever so slightly concerned that you guys think we ALL at QPL love every artwork. It's not the case at all. |
cmsdrums 05.08.2007 05:25 |
Thanks Greg - a diplomatic answer which confirms our fears that this is indeed the final artwork. Glad that you think the same as us!! |
Griffin 05.08.2007 08:24 |
If somebody can contact Jim Jenkins, can he please be invited to offer his perspective on the Queenzone re: box sets/QPL? I thought Benn's remark about NDA's was all GB needed to confirm... |
AlexRocks 05.08.2007 09:26 |
Oh! Wow! Mr. Brooks! Thanks for responding to my bitching! (It's as if it is finding some mystical folk creature when you respond! Lol!) Um...well there you go. I don't mean to sound ungrateful it is just that I think most everything Queen does is great to the point of setting standards artistically. So I think that would explain why I and others thought maybe this cover did not do Queen justice as we hope the products will sell well enough to have them keep comming. I suppose if there is something that we don't like at some point something can always be re-released. Thanks! |

....at least not in his current form! "Great" cover by the way, any QZ cover designer could do that better..anyway, there's a lot of bitchin' about this release! Why not seeing it as an upgrade, I bet this is the best version we ever get of this concert. Shurely they will be an 70's release someday, judging by the activity of GB and QP to get hold of vintage footage... |
Champipple 06.08.2007 15:13 |
This isn't Greg's fault at all. Thanks for answering the question. My God though... what the heck are they doing with their covers? Brian is a photographer, at the very least, he should have some veto power over these atrotious current releases. |
shadysenator 08.08.2007 18:59 |
Didn't knew that people with DOWN SYNDROM (47 chromo's Yep that means 2* 23 + 1 X or Y) could win a queen cover contest! |
shadysenator 08.08.2007 19:01 |
I must say that would prefer a packing with a photo shoot during the montreal gig when Love of my life was played...many open mounths ....the same reaction i had when i was the cover... |
Crezchi 09.08.2007 06:15 |
I would hire Jean LeJeune (i hope that's correct) to be the Sleeve and packaging designer. :) Awesome ass shit! :) |
Boy Thomas Raker 09.08.2007 10:14 |

That is presumptuous and not logical. We´ve never assumed that, we just like to bitch about you guys ; ) But seriouslly, there are at least 4 guys (Jim included) that can have a say about the covers, i think! What we are assuming is that those 4 guys like the covers as they are! Wich is strange, because on a freddie Bio (written by one of his assistants) there´s a story about the cover of Hot Space (?) where several covers were sent to the four of them for the OK. And he said that it was time consuming only for the letter Q (from Queen). So now, i think that that issue it´s not a problem anymore! At least they could put some "art" in the fonts to write the name Queen. That looks like a word document or something. Take care P.S- By the way Greg, since you´re reading this- i don´t know if you´re on vacations, but in case you are, have fun! But when you have the time could you update your shared list about live recordings with what is audio and what is video? you don´t have to write it all again, you only have to update your first post. Because the way it is, it´s confusing and it guives us no place to start discussing about the list. Cheers! |

I was only being polite, and considering that option for this time of the year. I said when he has the time- wich meant, when he arrives from the vacations he´s not having. No second intentions on my post, because i´ve never bitched about him in the past and i´m not going to do it now. But since the list he´s shared is confusing and the topic is becoming a little strange, because we don´t know what we´re discussing i just asked for an update when he has the time. Take care |
Darren1977 09.08.2007 16:18 |
Yeah i know where you're coming from, the list wasn't very clear at all was it.If he could list the audio and video separate. |

Richard Gray is the Art Director at QP, at least according to the sleeve notes of releases from "A Kind Of Magic" onward. I agree with the general sentiment that the sleeve is pretty bland, but it's not as terrible as it could be. Cases in point... The Museum Of Bad Album Covers: link Be warned! There are some Queen sleeves on this site, if I remember correctly. As to the Montreal DVD/CD, my thoughts are that simple can be elegant. Just not in this case, and it's probably not a good idea to approach a release with that design philosophy when dealing with Queen. |
goinback 13.08.2007 01:13 |
The Greatest Hits/Classic Queen discs are simple yet elegant...but, yeah, this is simple and NOT elegant :) Most of the bad album covers are from a pre-Photoshop era, so today there's not much excuse. I guess it sorta has the same font as on Hot Space, which would at least give it some kind of artistic direction...but, not really.... |
john bodega 13.08.2007 02:42 |
Sorry, until I see this in shops, it doesn't exist. *No one* would release something that shithouse. |
Holly2003 13.08.2007 08:08 |
I'm glad to see The Miracle on that website of bad LP covers. It seems everyone here likes it but I've always thought it godawful ugly. Four-headed monster is a good description. Queen haven't produced a really good album cover since their first Greatest Hits package. |
Micrówave 13.08.2007 12:11 |
Oh that is such... such... hmmm.... Geez, Holly... when I try to argue that, I can't. They have been pretty lackluster. But it is fun watching the heads morph on GHV2. |

Whether you like them or not, you have to admit "The Miracle", "A Kind Of Magic" and "Innuendo" are distinctive, get your attention and stand out, which is the point of an album cover. |

I'm going to live in denial for a little while, and try to avoid the obvious questions like "why doesn't this follow the established look of the existing Queen releases" and "couldn't they have paid someone with a working set of eyeballs to design this?". |
