In my opinion the covers for the new 'Queen Rock Montreal' DVD, CD and LP is dreadful. What is Richard Gray playing at and how have the band agreed to this awful cover? This is supposed to represent Queen Live and NOT freddie on his own, I have seen better bootleg covers for concerts than this poor and unimaginative effort. As if the 'Live At Wembley Stadium' cover was bad enough we go and get another just like it with this one. The original releases of this gig on video and later DVD were better than this and they were UNofficial. A good representation of a mock up cover that can be done well was the last 'On Fire at the Bowl' release.....but this? No excuses. |

I vote crap |

I am a die hard Queen fan. It takes a really bad album cover for me to say it is bad. It is so bad that I will NOT be buying this product. How embarrassing. I sure hope that they change it. First the cover to "Return Of The Champions" was attrocious and now this. HELLO Queen Productions?! What's going on?! Why don't they just put a big penis on it and call it "We like cock." on it? |

I liked the Wembley cover, Milton Keynes was good because it had the whole band on there, but this... as Erin said on QOL, the cover of Queen Rocks Montreal makes Stone Cold Classics look good. |

I like all the covers for everything except this one for "Queen Rock Montreal" it is just "Return Of The Champions" was VERY weak and non-creative. Lame-o. It is just this new one is Lame-O squared. |

I've just seen it. It would be a perfect cover for a cheap east-european / asian bootleg made by some gay |
dobo 03.08.2007 11:37 |
is that the final cover or just a pre-release one like the best of freddie album, I can't believe this to be the final official cover as A. it only has freddie on it and B. there is no Queen The DVD Collection logo on it at all |
AlexRocks 03.08.2007 11:42 |
Tell me this. Queen are now reunited and making music again and are touring. They have the huge issue of convincing the public that they were not Freddie Mercury's back up solo band as so many percieved them to be. So the question is...what's with Brian May and Roger Taylor seeming like they want nothing to do with these products being release?! Again the other d.v.d. covers are great. What's wrong with a conceptual cover?! I have ten dollars should we start a fund for them? |
Daz85 03.08.2007 11:43 |
I actually think it maybe the worst cover in the whole collection. Extremely dissapointing... in fact, I'm having trouble getting passed the fact it's genuine :S |

Anyone have a link to said cover? |
AlexRocks 03.08.2007 11:51 |
Oh! I know! Let's think postive! At least the cover is relevant to the release! So they got that one right! The picture is from the right concert. It must have taken literally hours to come up with this cover! No long haired Freddie or picture of the group from another time period! TWO! Maybe it IS NOT the actual cover which would then beg to ask then why did they release it as so in their press release? THREE! You get to make your own album cover. Any others? |
pittrek 03.08.2007 11:51 |
It's on brianmay.com, search for the news about the DVD |

Benn 03.08.2007 12:04 |
As long as the material on the CD (!!!!!!!!!) is of good quality, then I'm fine with it. The packaging is of little consequence compared to the music. Put it this way, if whatever rarities set came in this packaging, but featured Hangman, 12 minute Bo Rhap etc, would you care? |
Pierre 03.08.2007 12:07 |
I Hope this is not the final cover ! The font is ok classic/Queen in that era. But The picture of Freddie is way to off focus & colors not sharp ! It looks like a clip from a old newspaper scanned then pasted into paint + the text font.. NOT good at all !! But the ideá is good but the work poor very poor. |
Marknow 03.08.2007 12:11 |
It has to be 1 massive pisstake by Q.P? |
David Jones 03.08.2007 13:04 |
That cover is worse than a poor bootleg cover. OK, the name is shite but theres no need to make the cover a steaming pile of wank. Surely not the final product, I would be very dissapointed to see that hit the shelves. On the face of it, it looks like no time, money, effort or love has been put into this product. The sound and picture is really gonna have to be something to make me upgrade from the current version. And this Live Aid thing is a waste of time aswell. This is shaping up to be the worst release by any band ever, let alone Queen. |
gnomo 03.08.2007 13:09 |
... if it's the Freddie pic on a blue background that can be seen on BM.com, well, at a quick glance it doesn't look that bad to me, and not just because that point of blue is my favourite colour. Not showing anyone or anything else from and around the band, it should strongly appeal to both the general public AND the loyalists, as it states quite loudly "Queen = Freddie". But then I'm generally considered an infamous case of poor taste... |

On October 29, 2007, Eagle Rock Entertainment will simultaneously release two incredible DVDs capturing the incomparable QUEEN in their pomp as the world's biggest band at a sold-out show in 1981 at Montreal's 18,000-seater Forum. The single 95-minute DVD is "Queen Rock Montreal", and there is a special edition double DVD "Queen Rock Montreal + Live Aid", clocking in at 138 minutes of footage. The live CD/LP from the concert is released on the same date on EMI with HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions to follow in November through Eagle. Following their record-breaking South American tour, the Montreal shows on November 24 and 25, 1981 were to be the only concerts by QUEEN ever shot on film — indeed they were the first group to shoot an entire show in full cinema format 35mm. These releases offer the best ever sound and picture quality on a QUEEN concert release. Always a great live band, with two years non-stop touring behind them and Freddie Mercury in front of them, QUEEN excelled themselves with the cameras rolling. The footage has been digitally restored from the original film and the sound has been newly mixed and mastered for DTS Surround Sound and PCM Stereo from the original multi-track tapes. "Hello Montreal...long time no see. You wanna get crazy?" asks Freddie as the band tear into their alternative "fast" version of "We Will Rock You", and from there on QUEEN show their hard rock roots, slowing down only for "Love of My Life" and the more mid-tempo "Under Pressure", notably being performed live for the first time in this concert. The real joy to be had in watching Freddie, Brian, Roger and John performing here is that, unlike any other QUEEN concert film available, this delivers raw QUEEN. This is before the "Hot Space" album, before keyboards would find a place in the band's touring line up; this is simply four musicians in total cohesion. Originally titled "We Will Rock You", this film was first launched at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1983 — as only QUEEN could. It was then released in North America (September 1984), becoming the first commercially available film of QUEEN in concert. For this special edition, the picture has been digitally restored from the original 35mm negative. The double disc release offers the incredible bonus of a slew of Live Aid features and performances. Regularly polled as the greatest live performance of all time, QUEEN's mighty Live Aid show at 6:44pm on July 13, 1985, is here in full. In addition to the set that reinforced QUEEN's position as unrivalled rock entertainers, Freddie and Brian's performance later in the evening of the poignant "Is This The World We Created" is included. Also featured are 11 minutes of never before seen Live Aid rehearsal footage, plus a rehearsal interview with the band. In addition, there's the curiosity value of a 1982 news feature from U.S. TV series "PM Magazine". Brian May and Roger Taylor bring the story up to date with a brand new audio commentary on the Montreal concert. Track listing: 01. Intro 02. We Will Rock You (fast) 03. Let Me Entertain You 04. I have to say if this is the final artwork I will be extremely disappointed, who the hell has let this one slip through the net. I really thought things couldn't get any worse after the Freddie LOLSOS cover but knock me down with a feather this one is even worse !!!. Surely this can't be the final sleeve, the 2 sleeves for the pioneer releases of this concert were fantastic especially the 2nd one, probably my favourite artwork for a long while. I just hope and pray this gets changed, there are people on this forum that could have done a lot better than this pile of S*$t. Someone email Brian NOW |

No offense but I don't think that is entirely true. I wouldn't be a fan if their releases that they have already done in all aspects weren't top form. I for one have been talking about the cover packaging and artwork of "Queen Rock Montreal". It is because of their high standards to the point that they have revolutionized certain things in the music industry that leaves me and some others scratching our heads over this cover and even the "Return Of The Champions" one. |

It's been released before, the public has it several times. Exciting extras were promised and not delivered. 90% of the material, on both discs, has been available before. The cover is atrocious. There's plenty of space to complain. Why are you willing to let QPL steamroll the fans like this? Is there no quality control anymore? Once upon a time, Queen prided themselves on every last detail, and now it's come down to this. It's a disgrace. Normally, I'd be able to find something nice to say about any Queen product, and I'd be willing to overlook everything if there was something truly astounding as an extra, but there isn't. Queen fans have been gyped again. How anyone can defend QPL's actions is beyond my comprehension. |

We're talking about the man behind the design of the covers of The Miracle, Greatest Hits 2 (simple, yet classic and timeless), Made in Heaven and Another World (one of my favorites). This cover has to be an all time low in his career. I don't mind a minimalistic approach but this reminds me of the cover of a pirate release of Queen's upbeat dance tracks that has a replicated Freddie several times on the cover. |

I seem to be one of the few who REALLY want this DVD for the new audio mix, and the extras will be a bonus. But honestly if that's the cover I WON'T buy it...I've never had a CD or DVD cover actually make me NOT buy a product before. And I'll write Brian and let him know. Yes, the cover for a music product is important - especially for Queen. They've had some groundbreaking ones and the artwork adds to the band's mystique and image. I would be embarrassed to show that DVD to someone and say that's a band I've supported almost 30 years. But I really doubt that's real. |

Has anyone already emailed Brian? The thing looks really horrible. A friend of mine works as a media designer and he often uses “demos” if a product is not finished yet but has to be presented to the public. Let’s hope that is also the case here. Although I do agree with some of the posts here about sub par Queen-products in recent years, I am really happy about the forthcoming Montreal release. I had WWRY on video and always loved the show. When it was released on DVD I rushed into the store, saw the package, read the liner notes… and put it back in the shelf, as it clearly wasn’t a “Queen”-Product. The same with several european reissues of the 1985 Japanese Concert. Although I’d love to have it, I refuse to buy it when it is not official (apart from bootlegs of course, but those are mainly shows which will never be released officially anyway). Sounds strange, uh? I still don’t see the connection to Live Aid, that’s really a bit strange, but what the heck. Give me anything anytime, much better than another compilation. |

If they'd altered this cover a bit it would make a great one: link |

German laser disc cover is very nice. Is there a better quality of this cover?? I like it... |

Even the GVH covers didn't bring something new (though pretty well done) Let's put up a site to post fan-covers to new releases, starting from Wembley dvd... could be very interesting :)Hey Daniel, still alive? How are you doing :) |

OK, I have to admit the German cover DOES look worse than the new Montreal cover...at least they're not using that. |

Give me anything anytime, much better than another compilation.Nothing wrong with the Pioneer DVD of WWRY. It may not be by QP but it was still an 'official' release,as was the Live in Japan (Japanese issue). QP are renowned for their 'sub par quality' DVD relaesese so anything from another company is well worth a look. As for Live Aid on the new Montreal DVD, well it's just 'padding' to make it look like you're getting more value for your money. |

At least QP aren't cutting off the top and bottom of the screen anymore I guess. I still want to know how they justify taking charity money away from the Live-Aid DVD by including that performance though...that seems very un-Queen-like.... |

Personally I prefer the 4:3 version with the full un-masked frame. (no boom mics to hide here!) |

I don't mind the photo of Freddie, but I hate the blue, and it is a bit boring. Queen used to have great album and single sleeves. |

Maybe Deacy designed it... he likes blue, doesn't he? :) |
