Hope you don't mind if I copy/paste a post I have made earlier on QOL. I figure there is a greater chance to get an answer here... Thank you.
Mr. Scully's "Queen Concerts" website indicates that Smile played their first concert during the Summer of 1968 at the PJ's Club in Truro. link
According to the "Ghost Of A Smile" website, Smile's first gig was played at the Imperial College on October 26, 1968 link
John Scott Stuart's article on Smile does not make it quite clear whether the 10-26-1968 concert was Smile's debut, or Smile's debut at Imperial College. link
So, my question is, do we know when (and where) Smile played their first gig?
(as you might have noticed, there is an anniversary coming up next year...)

It is my understanding that Brian/Tim and Roger they didn't actually form the band until the Autumn 1968 - when Roger moved to London to enter Dentistry school. It was during this time that Brian posted the 'Ginger Baker / Mitch Mitchell Drummer' (Fall of '68).
If you look at the bio on ghostofasmile.com - page 3 - (the information I should note has been verified by several former members of 1984/Smile) you will read that they spent the Autumn rehearsing.
So this would/might over-rule the fact about the Summer 1968 debut gig.
Unless there is further debate or proof otherwise - then many sources should have October 26th as THE date of the first gig.
Thank you VERY much for your reply (and congrats for your website).
I'm still curious to know why Mr. Scully listed Truro/summer 1968 as the place/time of Smile's debut gig.
Is THERE a debate?
