blah blah I want, I want, I want... I like to get on with life rather than worry why Queen haven't released their unreleased tracks and out takes. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to hear those things. It's a dream and something I'm really interested in. But this constant whining from people on this board about not getting this stuff is just getting old. Adam. |

Mothership isn´t that special for a Led Zeppelin fan. I mean, how many Greatest Hits do you wan´t in your collection? The DVD seems interesting, but is a re-edition with bonus stuff. Same thing with Montreal DVD by Queen ; ) The fans know that there are Great videos by Zeppelin waiting in the vaults, but Jimmy Page keeps saying otherwise. Take care |

As far as the rereleases, Bobby already pointed it out: "Mothership" would be like Queen releasing a career retrospective with nothing new for the fans (hmm? they've already done that?!) and TSRTS would be like Queen rereleasing We Will Rock You with some extra stuff (oh wait....). I think Led Zeppelin (in particular, Jimmy Page) have handled their back catalog relatively well and have been mostly decent with not letting too many compilations come out, but that last part is starting to slip with "Mothership": this is the third time that these songs have been released on some other set than their original studio albums (first was the 4-disc and 2-disc box sets in 1990 and 1993, respectively; second was "Early Days" and "Latter Days" in 2000 or so; and now this), and I believe "Early Days" and "Latter Days" are still available. Oh well. I think if Queen were to do something similar to this, fans would cry foul. ...Shit, we already have. |

Because Queen doesn´t have for example a movie called "the song remains the same"... That´s why... maybe xD P. |
AlexRocks 28.07.2007 11:27 |
May I make some corrections here? One of the things I have understood was that Queen did not have a movie or a concert movie that they made themselves. This is not true in my opinion. The reason being that apparently many people don't know that Queen showed "Live At The Rainbow '74" in theaters as an opening show to "The Song Remains The Same". I do wish to God that there were some type of acknowledgement of that with Zep's upcomming re-release of it. So in my opinion Queen did have a movie and it was a concert movie being "Live At The Rainbow '74" which as it stands is the first known full Queen concert film of any type. Other than all of that my opionion with a single c.d. compilation of greatest hits or a best of is that it should have at least one new song on it but it would be better to have two. As for a two c.d. set compiling the same things it should have in my opinion THREE new studio tracks. The Rolling Stones did this very well with "40 Licks" and showed everyone else how to do it in my opinion. This allows there to be more of a concept to the project and something new for the fans who already own all of the stuff to have an incentive to purchase it. |

OK...LZ split up in 1980, and are now releasing archive material... as well as re-releeasing all the old stuff over and over again. They've released a couple of old concerts BBC sessions, and a coupl eof unreleased tracks have sneaked out as well. Generally, Queen ARE doing that, and a lot quicker than 20 years after their collective demise too. Plus Zep have greater selling power in the states. You may not like that fact, but it's true. |

...Unfortunately The song remains that same is the worst movie ever made of the worst show Led Zeppelin ever played. And the fans know that! My sarcasm: presenting the show in full? The edited version is hard enough to sit through... (But stupid me, the fan, will buy it anyway :-) About the best of: that's a load of bollocks. How many best off's do you want? Remasters (THE best collection and the ONLY DECENT collection of LZ), remasters II, remasters box set, remasters II box set, early days, latter days, early & latter days... I mean, how old are those last ones? Three years?? We complain about Queen, but this is gettting just as bad. These will be the fourth or fifth version of their cathalogue out there. Once again without bonus tracks! The only new songs LZ ever released after Coda were two tracks on the first Remasters box set. (And I am not counting two old song pasted together as a new track! -->see Remasters box set II) A part of the 'new content' is already out there on it's own in the "DVD"-double dvd-set. (Now THAT was a release I'd -and have- recommend(ed) Queen Productions to follow! (Unless, they now release the recordings from the other night, but I doubt it...) Alright... I give it to them... sounds like the packaging and extra goodies will be very very nice. But looking at the music? Hmmm... I'm not too sure I want Queen Productions to pay attention. If they do, the next release will be ANATO the ultimate, maximum, overweight, decadent, collectors, completist, high-definitian, inflatable edition: The cd, the 5.1 dvd, the Eagle documentary dvd, and a dvd with all the video clips together in one big, white box wrapped in an ugly white t-shirt with the Queen crest on it. ...and don't tell me that WE would NOT complain if that happened! |

I'll grab it for the previously unreleased material. Agree that it's not the best performances by far, but it'll be something to look forward to purchasing (have avoided the other 'repackaged' ideas.) Surprised that they continue to avoid putting 'Hey Hey What Can I Do' on almost all these sundry releases. Queen-related: I will never understand why the remastered 'Live Killers' did not have bonus material from that tour (Somebody To Love, If You Can't Beat 'Em, It's Late, and Fat Bottomed Girls). After all, they did put added stuff on the Wembley CD release. Back to Zeppelin: not sure how many have seen this clip, but I'll bet this kid's parents will be happy with the new release. link |

Ok, maybe not the best thing to post, but it gets me down whenever I see people posting things that show these examples as some kind of taunt to QP to do something with the Queen materials in the vaults. I've heard it so many times that it starts to grate. That's where the "I want" stuff comes in. There's a lot of folk that do it. And this isn't that different because it's focusing on getting something from the Queen camp. Adam. |

Wait around politely and patiently for anything the band happens to release? We've all been there and done that for the past 10 years, and it's achieved nothing... Maybe it would be time to try something else. I suppose my tactic of bitching about the releases here at QZ isn't the most productive, but it's achieved its purpose if somebody here starts to wonder if there could be better releases. The ideal outcome would be that every member here wrote a nice and polite e-mail to Brian May every few months stating (in their own words) why it would be nice to have some different kinds of releases. I doubt he would satisfy our every wish, but at some point (when there were a few thousand e-mails) he might actually want to do something about it. |
Adam Baboolal 31.07.2007 09:16 |
See Tero, that last part is a good idea. Rather than talk about it here - go to the source! If people just sit and whine here, how much does that get back to anyone who plans these releases? Sending a nice note to Brian May is the best way to go. Well...Alred might disagree with that solution actually..ahem! Adam. |

With all due respect Tero, Brian is totally aware of what is said about Queen and QP. It's like his Soapbox, where the odds of him replying are great if you're praising him or WWRY. He knows, and QP knows that they're getting roasted on boards such as this for their release choices, but they don't care. If Queen were a political party, they'd be extremists up 'til Jazz. Fearless, bursting with wild creativity. Then they became populists around The Game, opting for the centre where they gained more "voters", due to a generally safer musical style. That's how QP is as a business. Their releases are aimed at people who like Queen the singles act. I'd hazard a guess that a large percentage of people who see WWRY are fans of the bands hits, and wouldn't know Loser in the end or The night comes down if it bit them on the ass. It's the 80/20 rule, 80% of Queen's market are casual fans, and they're more important than the 20% who know the catalogue inside and out because there are way more of them. |
Tero 31.07.2007 11:59 |
You're mostly right of course (I'm cynical enough to realise that), but I think he might be persuaded to reconsider a limited, fan-club-only type of release (or series of releases) if he received a few thousand praising e-mails within a few weeks. How could he ignore the opportunity for such worship? -;) |
Darren1977 01.08.2007 16:19 |
BOY THOMAS RAKER:Well said mate, hit the nail on the head. I have emailed Mr. May on three occasions about archive releases, existence of certain tracks and no reply. They have enough money rolling in from the Hits Albums and DVD's. They don't care what we think or would like to see released so fuck 'em. |
Boy Thomas Raker 01.08.2007 18:55 |
Thanks Darren, though I'd much prefer it if they were to prove us worng and release something that the more hardcore fans are interested in. I think somewhere along the way, the remaining members of Queen and QP became disinterested in their creative legacy, and focused on the sales side of their legacy (now more time on the album charts than the Beatles in the UK.) I absolutely think Brian is a genius and a great soul, but if he tells us one more time they don't to release more GH compilations since people won't get into the old albums, only to see embarrassing release like the Wal Mart shit, his nose will rival Pinocchio's. I hate speculation, but I think Brian realized that Queen would never win critical praise like the Beatles or Zeppelin got, so they focused on putting product out that appealed to the middle of the road music fan. They got ther results in sales, but it bodes poorly on the catalogue when they licence their songs to anyone with a buck. |
Rainbow 02.08.2007 15:36 |
QP could also follow Dream Theater. They have a separate label, Ytsejam records, that releases live shows, both on DVD and CD, demos and other rare stuff wich can be ordered through their website. The design and packaging are being kept minimalistic, and they save a lot on promotion and distribution costs while still giving the fans what they want. That way they also avoid the pressure of having to release and promote a "proper" official, high quality product. I'm not a big fan of Metallica anymore, but I understand they also have a website as well where you can download liveshows for money. |
