Okay, so I'm removing the scratchplate from my Burns.... need it off and well away from my guitar for renovation purposes.
Now the thing is, it was dead easy to unscrew everything and remove it all, but the volume and tone pots will NOT budge. They're glued on or something ridiculous.
Is there any way I can remove these buggers?? It's putting a big fat inconvenient halt to my plans
PS. I would've posted this at the Red Special forum but it won't let me register. Grrr.
Dude, are the pots tightened on? If so, you just need an allen key to loosen them.
Adam.
P.s. Would you consider these replacements? I've bought from this guy before and I think these are real nice. - link

Well I'm not sure, I looked pretty closely to see if there were any screws or allan key slots but I couldn't see any. Hmmmm!
As for replacing the knobs themselves.... definitely wouldn't mind doing that actually, I'm constantly replacing pots for cooler looking ones!! Bad habit of mine....

also do ye really think the guitar is good?? i cant get any decent sound outta it. have the pedal and his deacy amp too...do u really need a good amp like the vox ac30??
First, the electronics are fine. Very little that would need changing. And the stuff that could be changed is negligible at best.
The 2006 guitar is very spot on for sounds. Here's a recording I did as a laptop test - link - surprisingly, the recording came out sounding good!
Also, here's an IWBTLY cover snippet I was working on - link
I have a few bits of Brian gear, but what works for me is the most basic of stuff.
It's the 2006 BHM > Electrolead RSB treble booster > Vox Valvetronix AD50. And that's the core unit of sounds.
I have the Vox deacy and Boss CE5, but they're rarely used. I also have a different treble booster called the SharpFX retro booster and that's what's on the top file of this post. The IWBTLY file has the RSB booster in use.
Adam.
Yeah... here's the thing about those allan key holes. On closer inspection, they were there all right... but they were that jammed with shit (that'd been there since before I got it) that they basically looked like dots with no real dimension.
I felt like a right twit once I noticed what was going on, but it's all under the bridge now... did my re-decoration, and did it without ever having to remove the knobs too!!
Putting the guitar together again was a bit of a bitch, it's not something I do regularly... putting the pickups back in place got on my nerves.
I use an AD50 at TAFE sometimes, I like some of the sounds it has but the controls just get on my nuts!! In the end I usually stick with the Laney. It's a nice match for the Burns. Well.... mine, anyway. Some of the comments I've heard on the Burns, I really have to wonder if I got the only good one. :/

When you were putting the pickups back on had u difficulty getting the springs to stay in place etc?
You know you dont have to take the pickups off? There's enough in the wires for the thing to twist over! So in future to save yourself a lot of time try that!

Leaving the pickups in wasn't really an option for me.
ANYHOO.... yeah. :) I spray painted my scratchplate white, it was a lot cheaper than the idea of buying a new one or making my own. $7 worth of glossy white finish, it actually looks pretty good up close.
In the end I just covered the knobs up as well I could during the spraying.... naturally wasn't my first choice though.
