Hello all,
Unfortunatley I never got to see Queen live, I was born just under two months before Freddie died. I have watched Live At The Bowl, and Wembly many times, it is never the same as seeing all four of them in the flesh. My question is, to those lucky enough to see them live, what were they like in the seventies compared to the eighties. I have seen short clips of the seventies shows, and they look quite impressive, but obviously without seing the whole concert, I cannot really get the whole picture. From the interviews I've listened/read/watched of them, they have commented a few times on the fact that they were more confident live in the eighties compared to the seventies.
Thanks to all of you,
M.H
I would say that Queen live in the 70s was much more a raw rock show, and a bit more 'dangerous'. By the 80s shows (certainly from the Works tour), they became more honed in the presentation, and slightly more an all encompassing pop/rock tour thing. This possibly had something to do with the bigger venues and the poppier material they were writing and performing by then. The 80s shows were certainly the pre-cursor and the initial tours that led to the bigger shows of bands like U2, The Rolling Stones etc.. from the late 80s onwards.

The early 80’s saw them struggle with a few albums. Until Run’D’M’C came along, and only to have out side riders come in a help them to which they did in the 80's peak higher than they did in the 70's, then finally with there album "get a grip" in the 90's, they never achieved that success again. Only due to the fact that we all know them, are they still going strong. Mind, you, I do love aerosmith.
The stones, well yes they are still going strong, but not consistent to the degree I find Queen was. And to that note, Queen was a paid that paid finer attention to detail when it came to staying with the times and moving on.
Agreed on both counts. But the Stones approached it their way. Their formula has always worked for them... but because Queen established themselves as a band with a changing sound, they had to continue changing.

Yep... and on July 2nd 1980, they sounded like ass. They played their guts out on the 1st just for you, and then called it a day.
