Highly appropriate song to finish what was a really good gig. I would have thought Brian + Roger could've done something there.I know Brian was asked by Joss Stone to do Under Pressure but didnt feel confident enough!!?(eh??) What do you think. |
QueenMercury46 01.07.2007 21:12 |
Unfortunately I was out during the concert but I would have loved to have watched it. Does anybody know when or if it will air again? As an answer to your question, yes there was a plan for Brian to do Under Pressure with Joss Stone. Go to his soapbox and it will tell you why he couldn't. |

Nice concert and I felt really proud to hear 'Days Of Our Lives' at the end. Joss' 'Under Pressure' is astonishing, James Morrison has an extraordinary voice, Roger Hodgson was great too and Sir Tom Jones was absolutely brilliant. But the best performers IMO were Rod and Josh God Groban. |

Here's Joss Stone doing Under Pressure: link This is quite possibly the greatest cover of a Queen song EVER! Did anyone record this from TV? I'd love to have a high quality version of this, even if it's just the audio. I'm totally buying her albums after watching this. |

who played TATDOOL??? |
QueenMercury46 02.07.2007 00:22 |
Nobody performed TATDOOL, it was played at the end of the concert while they were showing videos of her. |

Her take on Under Pressure underwhelms me consistently. Hardly the "greatest Queen cover EVER" IMHO, but to each their own. |

I liked it, she did it in a really different way, which is commendable. And she pulled it off. You can see why Brian wanted to practise it. Btw, you might not like it, but watch Kanye West's performance. link It's unbelieveable. |

I just don't understand this shit. Take Live 8 as well. Pure shit, and people saying oh it was fantastic. Getting back to duran duran and that the crowd were really into it, a crowd really into it was live aid and Queen. These bands have no crunch live, they just sound poxy. What i'd have given to see Queen up there, with their electric sound. As well i watched live aid after duran durans performance and i concluded that queen are the best band ever! Why not - you judge a band by what they do, they kicked everyones ass that day and were consistently good since 1974 live. Besides judging people on reputations Queen were just class. Really annoys me when people say Queen aren't in the top ten bands of all time. Why not, they're the best... |

Atheist - talking fecal matter as usual... Joss' U/P was awesome.....and Freddie would've loved this....it's about as close in arrangement and sound to his own style back then |
kosimodo 02.07.2007 14:24 |
Well i tried to listen to both totaly.... oops, didnt make it! Loved the voice (and looks;) ) of Joss Stone.. But the band behind her??? What a band Freddie had behind him!! Those 5 did rock!! And Kanya West performance... well, eh... yeah! What was it?? |

I loved it when one of the hosts of the concert said he hasn't seen that many hands up (during Rod Stewart's last song) since Queen sang radio ga ga at Live Aid! Perfect! |
cmsdrums 02.07.2007 14:37 |
No wonder Brian ducked out - I thought Joss Stone's version of UP was absolute garbage. The arrangement was all over the place, as was her vocal (she is a good singer when she sings, and not tries to give it a 'touch of the Mariah Carey's!!). I really can't for the life of me understand why Queen (Roger and Brian either with or without Paul Rodgers) were not asked to play a few songs - they would easily have held their own against most of the rot on display. - |

I used to like Joss Stone, I had 2 of her albums but I have really gone off her now and I sold them on ebay months ago. I don't think she did a good version of Under Pressure. I didn't see it yesterday so thanks for posting the youtube link but it was dire stuff. |
Adam Baboolal 02.07.2007 16:43 |
I had better things to do than watch this concert. But, I had a quick 5 minute look on Sunday and quickly exited the room. It looked lifeless. As for the version of UP, I'm afraid I really didn't like it. It just felt like a completely different song after the familiar first half. Not surprised Brian opted to leave this one alone. Adam. |
scprof 02.07.2007 18:03 |
You can d/l the concert from here. It has been broken down into hourly segments due to the length. I'm sure the rest of the concert will be added over the next few days. link |
scprof 02.07.2007 18:17 |
I wasn't that impressed by the concert. The 1st problem was that it was seating only. As it wasn't standing I felt that the atmosphere was non exsistent. You can't beat a standing audience. It would have been nice to have everybody singing live. It would be 'Fergie' who mimed. Could David Bowie have sang Under Pressure with Joss Stone? It would have been just as appropriate. The rear view of the Take That dancers during 'Shine' was my highlight of the event!! |

I humbly propose that everybody here ceases to reply to "Atheist" on any musical matters, until he realizes that his opinions on music are no better than anyone else's, and until he is open to the idea that artists other than Freddie or Queen are worthy of praise (besides his own band - not to imply that they are equally worthy of such praise). At the moment, nothing is being accomplished on either end. |

The absolute best musician to grace the earth with his presence? That Queen and Treasure Moment don´t piss on Mozart and Bach? That the Beatles are not Queen´s urine? I watched the Joss Stone video again, and it just blew me away. Her soulful approach gives the song a completely different feel, and I love it. A good cover in my book is when an artist makes the song their own - and that's exactly what she and her band have done. Amazing stuff. |

She's a huge talent with a unique approach and that is what makes an artist great in my view. A cover should not be a reproduction but an interpretation. Like she does UP. |
